Climate Change – Republicans Admitting They’re Clueless About The Subject – Video

The ad was released by the liberal group Americans United for Change, and its focus is showing Republicans talking with some level of authority on the subject of climate change, while at the same time admitting that they know nothing about the topic.

They’re not scientists.

Jon Stewart to Fox – If Bowe’s Father Was on Duck Dynasty, “you’d like him just f*cking fine” – Video

The hypocrites over at Fox News. Remember them? They are the ones who formed the Republican coalition around Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty a few months ago when they thought he was being unfairly treated by the left winged media.

Fox News and the Republicans loved Phil Robertson and his Duck Dynasty crew. The defended them as brave capitalist, patriotic Americans, even inviting a member of the show to the president’s State of the Union Address… beard and all. But yesterday, Fox stooped to a new low when they picked on the father of Bowe Bergdahl calling him a Taliban because of his beard. A beard he grew in support of his son who was held in captivity by the Taliban.

Said Fox host Brian Kilmeade, “I mean, he says he was growing his beard because his son was in captivity. Well, your son’s out now. So if you really don’t — no longer look like a member of the Taliban, you don’t have to look like a member of the Taliban. Are you out of razors?”

Jon Stewart had something to say about that new level of hypocrisy.

“Well, that got ugly fast,” Stewart said. “First of all, who the f*ck are you to judge what a guy does if he thinks it might help him get his son back? And I don’t want to complicate your hatred of facial hair there, friend, but my guess is if you gave Bob Berg-dahl a bandana and a duck, you’d like him just f*cking fine.”

LET’S SWAP JOHN MCCAIN AND SARAH PALIN FOR SOME HUMMUS

As seen on America The Not So Beautiful

OK this is it. The height of Republican hypocrisy . I truly cannot take it anymore. I can’t. President Obama swapped five Gitmo detainees, who have been found to be guilty of nothing other than maybe despising George W. Bush, (if this were a crime I would be on death row by now along with many others) for our last remaining POW of Bush’s many wars. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was released by the Taliban as the five detainees were sent home. Right away there was Republican outrage over the swap. Of course the guy who was a POW himself John McCain has been extremely vocal in his criticism.

McCain of all people should be championing this. He knows what years in captivity can do your mind, body and spirit. He knows that the people in Gitmo are being held illegally. He knows this but denies it. He claims to be against torture but in the next breath will say that holding human beings illegally is not torture. Yes it is. Those prisoners in Gitmo have as much right to their freedom as Sgt. Bergdahl does. McCain is once again a no good hypocrite, one of rapidly deteriorating mental health as well.

Sarah Palin who had just recently prayed for the quick and safe return of Bergdahl, is now condemning Obama for the swap. Palin has even less worth than McCain. She prays that something will happen even though you and I know she doesn’t believe in shit. However prayer is as far as she goes. When it comes to actually doing something to make that prayer come true she is at a loss. She would praise God but condemn Obama for doing the exact thing she has been praying for. But of course she wouldn’t have any real ideas, or solutions, because she is the quitter from Alaska. She is a soulless, brainless entity that is of no use.

Let’s forget for a moment about the details surrounding the disappearance of Bergdahl. Some are calling him a hero, others a traitor. This is neither here nor there. He is an American who was being held captive by the Taliban and his return is welcome and the right thing to have happened. Once again Obama accomplishes a major foreign affairs issue with little drama and no violence or deaths. Our country wanted him back and he is back. Safe. Ted Cruz said he would have sent forces in to get him. And a hundred American soldier deaths later we might have him back, albeit maybe not in one piece.

If there was to be any criticism coming it certainly can’t be from the same people that had no problem at all with their hero Ronnie Reagan sending deadly weapons to our enemies in return for hostages. Right? I mean this is a no brainer, isn’t it? Thousands of weapons that could in turn kill us and our soldiers swapped for hostages. I mean that is far far worse than just five dudes for one soldier right? Let’s do the math. Oh well most Republicans can’t add so I guess that is out the window!

You really can’t wrap your mind around the hypocrisy. Yet there they are, loud and clear calling Obama a criminal. Saying that what he did was an impeachable act. This is the kind of stuff they are saying. Yes, they fully backed their hero Reagan, the man of their wet dreams (the only kind of wet dreams Republicans can have anyway). But when it comes to that black, socialist, welfare loving, free health care giving President Obama, well then it’s just an outrage!

I will give them some of their own medicine. If you don’t agree with the safe return of an American soldier, you are not a patriot. You are a traitor. You should live somewhere else.

Speaking of that I would like to propose a trade. To the Taliban I send John McCain and Sarah Palin. In return I would like some of your best hummus. I think that’s fair.

Hey, I said I only wanted their best, right?

Former Bush Official on Fox – Obama Did The Right Thing to Free Sgt. Bergdahl

John Bellinger, a Former Bush administration official, just secured his walking papers from the so called “news” network, almost guaranteeing that he will never to return to The Faux again.

What has Mr Bellinger done? He went on Fox News and, get this, spoke the truth!

After all the Fox noise about the Obama administration securing the release of a five year American prisoner of war, and the Republicans unbelievable hatred for this member of the military, Mr. Bellinger went on the propaganda machine and informed the clueless at that network that Obama did the right thing, and furthermore,  George Bush would have done the same thing too.

Gasp!

“I’m not saying this is clearly an easy choice,” Mr Bellinger said, “but frankly I think a Republican, a president of either party, Republican or Democratic, confronted with this opportunity to get back Sgt. Bergdahl, who is apparently in failing health, would have taken this opportunity to do this,” he added. “I think we would have made the same decision in the Bush administration.”

Fox News Attack Soldier’s Father – You “look like a member of the Taliban” – Video

It has been no surprise that Fox News and the Republicans are against of the release of the American soldier kept prisoner by the Taliban for five years. But attacking the soldier’s father because he grew his beard in support of his captured son?

Really?

“You wonder why, given the fact that a couple of years ago they had already discounted him as a deserter, why would the president of the United States embrace his family in the Rose Garden?” Fox News host Steve Doocy opined.

Co-host Brian Kilmeade accused Bowe Bergdahl’s father, Robert Bergdahl, of making “some anti-American tweets and statements” because he had said he was working to free the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, and that “God will repay the death of every Afghan child.”

“Really?” Kilmeade asked. “I mean, he says he was growing his beard because his son was in captivity. Well, your son’s out now. So if you really don’t — no longer look like a member of the Taliban, you don’t have to look like a member of the Taliban. Are you out of razors?”

Hillary Clinton Defends President Obama on Getting War Prisoner Freed

AP Photo/Cliff Owen

So you’re still wondering if Hillary Clinton is running for president in 2016? Well you’re probably the only one still wondering.

The former Secretary of State has weighed in on many issues concerning today’s version of American politics, and the decision by President Obama to oversee the release of an American soldier captured by the Taliban in Afghanistan prompted a response from the next American president,  Hillary Clinton. 🙂

Speaking at an event hosted by the Denver Post, Hillary Clinton defended the president’s decision.

“This young man, whatever the circumstances, was an American citizen — is an American citizen — was serving in our military,” Clinton said Monday evening, according to the Associated Press. “The idea that you really care for your own citizens and particularly those in uniform, I think is a very noble one.”

Needless to say, Republicans are trying to use the release of this American prisoner as another false issue to attack the President on. It is obviously their position that Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl should have remain captive by the Taliban in Afghanistan. You would think that bringing home prisoner of war, an American soldier who went to fight for this country would have been a good thing, but not with these republicans.

Republicans – they love the troops… this much.

San Jose – Vote Today and Get Free Weed

Cannabis clubs in San Jose are offering free pot and discounts to patients who go to the polls Tuesday and vote in several contested races.

The Silicon Valley Cannabis Coalition is organizing the “Weed for Votes” program as an effort to increase voter turnout at Tuesday’s election.

“We have a huge opportunity to make a large impact in who runs San Jose,” coalition director John Lee said in a statement. “Although we may not have regulations on the June ballot, insuring the right politicians are elected is even more important.”

Republicans Applaud Chris Hayes for Providing More Ammunition Against Obama – Video

Now I’m not sure what Chris Hayes is trying to accomplish here, maybe he wants to be known as an impartial reporter or someone who has no allegiance to any one group or party. Maybe he wants to be impartial. And although an impartial reporter is something to be admired, impartial reporters are a dying breed in today’s political landscape, and they are dying because most of this country have already picked a side and are prepared to defend that side to the end. Impartiality unfortunately, has no audience here.

If you read this blog often, you have already realized that I, like the rest of the nation, have picked a side. So imagine my surprise when Chris Hayes of MSNBC brought on a Republican and a former White House employee on his show, to argue the constitutionality of a president deciding to go off on his own and do stuff without the okay of Congress.

In this particular case, the group discussed the recent decision by President Obama to “negotiate” the release of a United States prisoner, Bowe Bergdahl

Of course, Republicans all argue that the US prisoner should stay in captivity. Amazingly, they  used the Sunday morning networks to complain that the United States should not have released five Gitmo prisoners to get the Taliban to release one US soldier. They were all livid! How dare the president make such a decision?

Chris brought on Republican Senator Jason Chaffetz to plead the Republican’s case. But Michael Gottlieb, the former White House Presidential Special Assistant, was making more of a case that the president made the right decision in acting swiftly to secure the release the captured soldier. That is when Chris Hayes pulled out a recording for the President denouncing George Bush when Bush acted alone on certain occasions.

At the end of the recording, the Republican’s face lit up as he happily applauded Chris Hayes and MSNBC for beating Fox News to this bit of ammunition against the President.

Fox Panel Laughs at Laura Ingraham for Unnecessary ‘Benghazi’ Mention in Conversation

It’s what they do. No matter what the conversation is, these people always try to bring it back to Benghazi.

What makes the story interesting though, is what happened at Fox News when Laura Ingraham, one of the guests on the Fox Sundays talk show, managed to infuse Benghazi in a conversation about President Obama’s West Point speech. Making everything about Benghazi is a normal procedure at the Fox News network. But this time, it seems that even those at Fox were tired of the Benghazi bottom line to every conversation. And when Ingraham brought it up, she was quickly laughed at.

“The idea that the president goes to West Point and says ‘Look, we’ve never been stronger relative to the rest of the world’ — I’m sorry, that doesn’t even pass the straight-face test,” Ingraham said. “Just on an economic front, forget our declining influence across the globe. So I thought it was a very odd speech and it was not well received, and that didn’t surprise me at all given its tenor and its tone.”

After another guest on the show pointed out that President Obama did the two most important things required of any president, that is, protecting the nation and keeping us from unnecessary war, Laura Ingraham could not let that one slide. She could not see or hear President Obama get any credit for anything. And that is when the Benghazi comparison came out.

“We didn’t protect the Benghazi diplomatic mission on 9/11/12. We kind of failed on that regard, don’t you think, Bob?” she said. “That is the country.”

“Well, you are underscoring my point that this will never go away, at least with you,” Woodward said, drawing laughter from the panelists.

Educational Food Fight

This past week featured not one, but two terrible ideas related to schools that people need to know about. One is a conservative issue while the other, oddly enough, is one of those issues that has bipartisan stupidity blowing its tailwind (there’s a visual, no?).

Declaring that serving school children fresh fruits and vegetables might be too expensive for some districts, the House Appropriations Committee voted to allow states to get waivers so they don’t have to meet the health standards. This, of course, is Michele Obama’s number one policy concern as First Lady, and she certainly weighed in on the issue, so it’s really no surprise that the Republicans would want to allow states to opt out of the program. After all, there are all of those meat, potato, sugar and fast/snack food interests that need to get something for their campaign contributions. And they can’t give either Obama a political victory, can they?

The main opposition is that the program is costly and restrictive, and I can see why. Students, at first, probably throw out a lot of nutritious food, especially if they’re not getting it at home and they don’t like it. And junk food is less expensive than fresh fruits and vegetables because those industries want people to stretch their budgets on those foods, not on apples, kale and avocados.

But the larger issue is that it’s the job of schools to educate, not only in the classroom but also in the cafeteria and the playground. Can you imagine schools opting out of safety regulations or allowing students to fight during recess or physical education because, well, isn’t competition and survival of the fittest the main building blocks of a free enterprise, entrepreneurial economy? What’s the difference between that and modeling and serving healthy food in the cafeteria? What you bring from home is your business. In school, it’s in the state’s interest to keep people healthy. When you’ve seen, as I have, students coming our of the cafeteria line with pizza with french fries, then you know there’s a problem.

The bipartisan ridiculousness is over the Common Core Curriculum Standards. The left doesn’t like them because of their reliance on tests and the right doesn’t like them because they want the states to be able to craft their own standards and believe that the federal government has no business regulating schools. Both sides have good points, but in the end, the United States will only be able to compete with other countries if every student learns the same body of knowledge.

And the problem is not just one of geography. States across the country have a hodgepodge of standards that are difficult to reconcile, from when they require students to master certain mathematics and science skills to requiring physical education or how many years of United States History students must take. Where I teach, students do not get any instruction in Greek or Roman history, which is the basis our form of government. Yes, we should be teaching multicultural perspectives, but to be able to graduate from high school with no knowledge of the great people who presaged Western culture is not a quality practice.

The Common Core standards do need serious editing and we do need other evaluative measures than tests to measure their effectiveness. Getting rid of them, though, is not the answer.

Gunshot Victim’s Dad to Politicians – “I don’t give a sh@t that you feel sorry for me,”

Richard Martinez

It’s something we’ve seen far too often. Mass shootings in our so-called “civilized” society by a gun-crazed lunatic, then more lunatics come forward to defend the right of the shooter over the rights of the multiple innocent victims he killed.

Survival of the fittest. Kill or be killed. Their definition of American civility!

Then the politicians, those entrusted with the task of leading this nation and protecting the rights and wellbeing of all Americans as laid out in the Constitution, do nothing except to offer their condolences. And in doing nothing, they validate the right of the lunatic shooter and the lunatics defending his rights.

Well, after yet another mass murdering spree in California where multiple innocent people lost their lives, and where lunatics rushed forward to defend the shooter, politicians are once again poised to offer their condolences. But the father of one of the victims is not hearing it. He’s not going to be satisfied with them calling him with the usual, sorry for your loss, but the shooter has his rights too!

I don’t care about your sympathy. I don’t give a s— that you feel sorry for me,” Richard Martinez, the father of Christopher Michaels-Martinez, told The Washington Post.  “Get to work and do something.

“I’ll tell the president the same thing if he calls me,” Martinez added. “Getting a call from a politician doesn’t impress me.”

He went on to urge Obama and Congress to take “immediate action” to implement new gun control laws.

“Today, I’m going to ask every person I can find to send a postcard to every politician they can think of with three words on it: ‘Not one more,’ ” he said Tuesday. “People are looking for something to do. I’m asking people to stand up for something. Enough is enough.”

Carney defended Obama’s actions and said he had done all he could without congressional action.

Obama had “acted on every item the administration has contained within the report provided by the vice president to the president on measures that can be taken administratively to help address this challenge,” said Carney.
