Eric Cantor Announces He’s Stepping Down as Majority Leader

Eric Cantor — looking composed and even unusually at ease — went before the press on Wednesday afternoon and announced he’s stepping down as majority leader, ending an 11-year run in Republican leadership.

The No. 2 House Republican called his defeat to an upstart primary challenger a “personal setback,” adding that his campaign team had done everything it could to win.

Cantor — who rarely holds solo news conferences but stood before the national press corps the day after his stunning defeat — dismissed the argument that he had absented himself too frequently from his Seventh District in Richmond.

“I was in my district every week,” Cantor insisted emphatically. “There is a balance between holding a leadership position and serving constituents at home. Never was there a day that I did not put the constituents of the 7th district first and I will continue to do so.”

He endorsed California Rep. Kevin McCarthy to succeed him as majority leader. The election will be held June 19, and Cantor plans to leave his post by the end of July. He’ll stay in the House until December.

In Nevada Primary, “None of these Candidates” Won

In the Democratic primary for governor in Nevada, voters were not too happy with the actual candidates on the ballot. What got their attention however, was the option that said, “None of these candidates.”

“None of these candidates” won hands down.

None of these candidates” earned 30 percent of the vote when The Associated Press called the race, outpacing the leading actual candidate, Robert Goodman, a retired state Economic Development commissioner from Las Vegas who’s run statewide twice before and shares a last name with the Vegas mayoral dynasty, at 25 percent. But according to state law, Goodman will win the nom

OMG – Eric Cantor Loses His House Seat To a Teaparty Brat

David Brat that is. He is the Teaparty bagger who just upset The House Majority Leader, Eric Cantor!

I was settling into my chair just a little after 8pm, trying to see what Chris Hayes had to talk about on his MSNBC show. I totally took for granted the elections going on in Virginia, as I was sure there would be no news made tonight. A Brat named David, a Teaparty member, was challenging one of the untouchables in Republican politics, Eric Cantor.

My attitude was, move on folks, there’s nothing to see here.

Chris Hayes began and within the first five minutes, another MSNBC host, Rachel Maddow broke in with the “Breaking News!”

I knew something big was happening, but to think that Cantor had lost never crossed my mind. Then Rachel made the announcement – Eric Cantor has lost his House seat, as per the Associated Press. The graphic was then shown and I immediately saw why the race was called for Brat. It wasn’t a loss by Cantor, Brat completely blew him out of the election waters!

With 83% of the precincts reporting, David Brat was already leading Cantor by double digits – 56% to 44%.

“Obviously we came up short,” Cantor said as he began his concession speech. “I know there’s a lot of long faces here tonight and it’s disappointing, sure, but I believe in this country, I believe there’s opportunity around the next corner for all of us. So I look forward to continuing to fight with all of you for the things that we believe in. For the Conservative cause because those solutions of ours are the answers to the problems that so many people face today. Thank you very much.”

Applause by his campaign audience!

I’m still in shock!

Our National Passtime – 74 School Shootings Since Sandy Hook

Can we now say that conservatives love their guns more than they love life? Really, how can they honestly say that they’re pro-gun and pro-life at the same time?

The Huffington Post reports that since the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, there have been an average of 1.37 school shootings for each school week, according to data maintained by Everytown for Gun Safety, a group fighting to end gun violence.

Including Tuesday’s incident at a high school in Troutdale, Oregon, 74 school shootings have taken place in the approximately 18 months since the Dec. 14, 2012, Newtown shooting. The average school year typically lasts about 180 days, which means there have been roughly 270 school days, or 54 weeks, of class since the shooting at Newtown. With 74 total incidents over that period, the nation is averaging well over a shooting per school week.

Alex Jones – Obama Planned The Las Vegas Shooting – Video

Everyone, please be quite.  The right-winged media darling and favorite mouthpiece for the Republican and Teaparty movement has a story to tell. Of course he has no facts to back up his nonsense, but that’s exactly how Republicans love their news – as a total fabrication!

Ladies and gentlemen,  as per Alex Jones, the shooting in Las Vegas that killed three innocent people along with the two shooters, was a plan by President Obama and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg to come and take your guns and also to make the Teaparty look bad.

Go ahead Alex, make a bigger ass of yourself and your Republican colleagues… As if that’s even possible.

Three “Good Guys With Guns” Died in Recent Las Vegas Shooting

The Killers - Jerad and Amanda Miller

So by now you’ve already heard of the shooting in Las Vegas, where two police officers were gunned down while eating lunch at a restaurant.

The shooting was apparently carried out by an anti-government, Teaparty/Militia married couple, who also took part in the Bundy Ranch standoff against the government just months ago. After killing the officers, they covered the bodies with what has now become the symbol flag of the Teaparty – The Gadsden flag.

Two good guys with guns dead!

But there was another “good guy with a gun” that got blown away by the couple. A 31-year-old Walmart customer, Joseph Wilcox, who was standing near the checkout area with a friend when the couple busted into the department store and ordered everyone to leave.

Wanting to stop the couple and minimize the potential bloodbath that was bound to happen, Wilcox – a legally licensed concealed carry Walmart patron – told his friend that he was going to stop shooter.

According to reports, Wilcox pulled out his gun and “got into position,” aiming for the male shooter. He unfortunately did not see the female shooter with her gun aimed at him. She shot Wilcox in the side. He immediately fell and died from his injury without shooting off any rounds.

The female shooter shot and killed her husband, then killed herself. All that remained afterwards were the bodies of the three “good guys with guns,” the bodies of the two bad guys with guns, and of course, the guns. Five dead bodies… and the guns!

Republicans and the NRA continue to argue that “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” I wonder which of the “people” the couple used to bludgeon the others to death…!

Leave The Murderers With The Guns, Protect Your Child With This Blanket – Video

So this is what the civilized United States of America has come to.

Instead of doing something simple to curb gun violence, like issuing background checks to act as a deterrent for those with bad intentions, you know, make it harder for lunatics to buy a gun. We are instead, preparing our kids to be sitting ducks in schools with bullet proof blankets.

An Oklahoma company – ProTecht – has developed the blanket made from bullet proof material hopeful that schools would pay the $1000 price tag for the blanket.

The blanket they say, would help protect the child from falling debris in the event of certain natural disasters, but would also help when the mass murderer with his Second Amendment Semiautomatic comes knocking at their classroom door. The only requirement is that the nice murderer stands outside the classroom and wait until all the children are fully covered before opening fire.

And if that’s not good enough news for you, consider this: someone is about to make a lot of money with their bullet proof blankets.

Capitalism at work here folks, there is a need and the market steps forward to address that need!

Chalk up another victory for the NRA and the Republican party.

Absolute Insanity!

Hillary Clinton – Benghazi is “more of a reason to run” in 2016

Republicans thought their constant criticism of Hillary Clinton about the whole Benghazi made up fiasco would persuade the former Secretary of State not to run for president in 2016. But according to a recent interview, Hillary Clinton says that Benghazi should be the reason she runs for president.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that the criticism for her handling of the 2012 attack in Benghazi is “more of a reason” to run for the presidency in 2016 than not.

“Actually, it’s more of a reason to run, because I do not believe our great country should be playing minor league ball,” Clinton told ABC News’ Diane Sawyer, according to a transcript. “We ought to be in the majors.”

Nate Silver – The Abusers… sorry… The Republicans Will Win The Senate

We are like an abused spouse. We say that this time would be the last. We will not put up with this anymore. But our abusers apologies and promise never to do it again, so… here we go again, living in fear with our abuser knowing that one day, we will once again be abused.

We are too weak to change the situation. Change it seems, is scary. So we put up with our abusers the Republicans and will apparently vote for them in November.

Nate Silver has gained respect from both sides if the political aisle because his predictions are usually spot on. Nate is predicting that our political abusers will once again promise not to abuse us, and like abused fools, we will give them another chance.

Nate’s March forecast projected a Republicans gain of 5.8 seats. You’ll no doubt notice the decimal place; how can a party win a fraction of a Senate seat? It can’t, but our forecasts are probabilistic; a gain of 5.8 seats is the total you get by summing the probabilities from each individual race. Because 5.8 seats is closer to six (a Republican takeover) than five (not quite), we characterized the GOP as a slight favorite to win the Senate.

The new forecast is for a Republican gain of 5.7 seats. So it’s shifted ever so slightly — by one-tenth of a seat — toward being a toss-up. Still, if asked to place a bet at even odds, we’d take a Republican Senate.

Members of Fox News Now Denouncing Their Network’s Coverage of Bergdahl

I don’t think they got the memo. Apparently, Juan Williams and Shep Smith were not aware that a smear campaign was on the way against a member of the military, Army Sargent Bowe Bergdahl, who was recently released as a prisoner of war after being held in captivity by the Taliban for five years.

Earlier this month, Shep Smith expressed his displeasure about the way his network and the Republicans were attacking the soldier.

“If you desert or commit treason, you have to be proved to have done so. We can’t just decide because some people come on television and yakety yak, and we’ve got a report of this and a report of that and that’s what happened. As the Army said, as the Pentagon said, you bring them home. You bring them home first, and then you investigate.”

And now, Juan Williams is doing the same. In a recent broadcast, Williams spoke his mind on the unfair malicious defamation of everything Bergdahl that Fox and the Republicans are perusing.

“You don’t make judgements at the opportunity to bring that young man home….But the idea is we don’t leave people in the enemy’s hands. The enemy saw him as an American soldier. This young man suffered. He was caged, Chris. His parents suffered. And yet people want to argue about the father’s beard. They want to say they shouldn’t have a parade. Let the military decide. The military is best positioned not us sitting here on this panel and not all the political people on the Republican side who have flip-flopped, flip-flopped, Chris in the most craven way. Unbelievable…”

Glimmers of hope from these two on a stinking [or sinking] ship that is The Fox. Hopefully they’ll jump ship before they’re pulled to the bottom by all the venom the rest of the cast spews!
