Remembering Trayvon – Events Planned This Weekend in South Florida

Actor Jamie Foxx and the families of Emmett Till and Oscar Grant are joining South Florida residents this weekend to commemorate the second anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s fatal shooting by neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman.

A peace walk is planned for Saturday in Miami Gardens, and a gala hosted by The Trayvon Martin Foundation is planned for Sunday in Davie on what would have been Martin’s 19th birthday.

A spokeswoman for Martin’s family says the focus of the weekend is to explore strategies to reduce violence.

Till, a black teen, was murdered in Mississippi in 1955, and Grant, also a black teen, was fatally shot by a police officer in Oakland in 2009.

Zimmerman was acquitted last summer of fatally shooting the unarmed Martin, who is black, in February 2012.

Texas Executed a Woman Yesterday

A 59-year-old-woman was executed by lethal injection Wednesday in Texas amid controversy over whether lethal injection is cruel and unusual punishment.

Suzanne Basso is the 14th woman put to death since capital punishment resumed in 1976; nearly 1,400 men have been put to death. There are approximately 60 women currently on death row in the U.S

Basso was sentenced to death in 1998 for killing a mentally disabled man after prosecutors argued she lured the man to Texas from New Jersey with the promise of marriage. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused to stop her scheduled execution.

The state of Texas used a single drug rather than a three-drug cocktail that was used up until 2012, when export bans by drug manufacturers created massive shortages of the drugs. A report by The Guardian found that executions using the new method take on average twice as long as they did with the old method.

Firefighter Responds to Car Accident, Gets Handcuffed by Cop – Video

A California highway patrol officer handcuffed and detained a firefighter who was treating car crash victims last night after he refused to stop the rescue to move his truck.

The men had both responded to a car crash where a sedan had flipped over a concrete divider on the I-805. When Jacob Gregoir, a firefighter for more than 12 years, arrived at the scene, he parked his firetruck behind the ambulance to provide protection for the emergency responders — something the Chula Vista fire chief said fire crews are trained to do.

But the cop, apparently trying to clear the highway’s fast lane, asked firefighters to move their trucks.

The CHP officer, whose name has not been released, told firefighter/engineer Jacob Gregoire to move the engine out of the traffic lane or he would be arrested, Hanneman said. He said Gregoire, who was checking the overturned car for any additional victims, answered that he’d have to check with his captain.

Instead, directly in front of CBS news cameras, the cop decided to handcuff Gregoire and detained him in the back of a squad car for approximately half an hour.

“To detain one of our firefighters in the middle of an incident is ridiculous,” Chula Vista Fire Chief Dave Hanneman told CBS.

Supervisors from both agencies had to be called to intervene and Gregoire was eventually released without charges — probably a wise move on the highway patrol’s part.

In 2008, a police officer was fined $18,000 after he arrested a firefighter who also refused to move his firetruck during a highway rescue.

Since it was revealed that George Zimmerman was looking for someone to fight in what they labeled “a celebrity boxing match”, and since it was revealed that his fight will be verses DMX, people on twitter have engaged in a discussion asking, what exactly makes George Zimmerman a celebrity?

Apparently, people on Twitter can’t figure out the answer to that question, and they’re voicing their opinion.

Conservative Says “Happy Africans from Africa” Better Than “Surly African American”

Another clueless Republican is caught red handed saying the things he usually say in private, in public. And demonstrating just how clueless and how much of a racist he really is.

Larry Pratt, a staunch conservative and President of Gun Owners of America, recently did an interview with American Thinker writer Selwyn Duke during Gun Owners News Hour, where he compared “happy Africans from Africa” to “surly African-Americans.”

It is apparently Mr Pratt’s belief that if the mean, unfriendly, hostile African American was more like those happy folks from Africa, life for everyone in America would be peachy.

“Generally, the African from Africa is a very pro-American person, a very happy person. I know several. And they always just happy with a joke, pleasant smile on their face.

“And they clearly don’t identify with the surliness that’s all too frequently the attitude of their fellow African-Americans here.”

“Possibly the most racist thing I’ve ever heard from someone not actually burning a cross,” said one tweeter.

“Another sad attempt to pit Africans and blackamericans against each other. Dichotomies rooted in white supremacy,” added another.

Pratt also praised Ghana in his rant, reports Opposing Views.

“It’s still illegal to commit an abortion, it’s illegal to be a homosexual. Very conservative social laws and very free market oriented as well,” he added

It’s Official – George Zimmerman vs DMX in “Celebrity” Boxing

I’m not quite sure how George Zimmerman became a celebrity, but it’s official … X gonna give it to George Zimmerman.

TMZ has learned, rapper DMX has just been named Zimmerman’s opponent in his upcoming celebrity boxing match.

Celebrity boxing promoter Damon Feldman tells us, DMX was selected out of 15,000 applicants … all of whom wanted a piece of Zimmerman in the ring after he issued the open challenge to fight anyone willing to take him.

But no one wanted to beat Zimmerman’s ass more than DMX.

As we first reported, DMX promised to massacre Zimmerman in the ring if he got the chance. To be exact, he said, “I am going to beat the living f**k out him … I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I f**k him right up.” He then said he’d literally piss on George’s face.

Zimmerman might actually have a chance though — as we reported, he’s been training pretty hard for months … oh yeah, and he’s only 30 years old. DMX is 43.

The boxing match will be 3 rounds.

The date, time, and location of the fight will be announced at a news conference next Wednesday.

Nestlé Chairman Suggest Climate Change Is An Act of God – Humans Must Learn to Adopt

In an interview with The Guardian, Nestlé Chairman Peter Brabeck argued against climate action, arguing the change in global temperature is natural and cyclical — a familiar point from the climate denier playbook. He worried that confronting the issue is similar to humans playing “God”:

Climate change is an intrinsic part of the development of the world. Since the world has existed we have had climate changes and we will have climate change as long as the world exists … For me the issue is more about what can we do in order to adapt to climate change and perhaps to try to gain more time … Are we God to say the climate, as it is today, is the one we have to keep? That’s the way it’s going to be? We are not God. What we have to assure is that climate change happens within a timeframe that humankind can adapt to.
If too much CO2 emission is accelerating climate change in a manner that will take away the possibility for us to adapt to it then we have a problem, but what I think is wrong to say is that we are going to stop climate change today. It’s not the natural approach. What we have to get to grips with is the speed with which climate change is happening and to have the same speed for us to adapt to it.

It is a strange position to take for a chocolate producer, because the $9 billion cocao industry faces a serious blow from climate change. By 2050, the land supplying half the world’s cocoa may become unsuitable for farming, because it will be too hot for the heat-sensitive cacao tree. It’s not the only food being ruined due to a drier, hotter climates: The supply for coffee, grapes, apples, peanut butter, and maple syrup is shrinking too. Brabeck’s strange logic here also suggests there is a ceiling to warming, regardless of how much pollution there is. But scientists have warned that even a 2 degrees Celsius threshold may already be out-of-reach.

Man Hijacks Seattle Linebacker’s Interview – Gives 911 Truther Message Instead

So you have a message that you want the world to hear, huh? And you don’t have $5 million to pay for a 30 second spot at the Super Bowl? Well there is apparently another way to get your message out to the masses. Just hijack the microphone when the linebacker for the winning team is about to give his press conference.

Now I am not suggesting this as the primary way for messengers to tell their tales, in fact, I strongly discourage this method. But Brooklyn resident Matthew Mills wasn’t listening and he got arrested for his troubles.

Mills played the role of a member of the press. He had a press pass and was allowed in the room with the Super Bowl players. When Seattle Linebacker Malcolm Smith sat down for his interview, Mills ran to the podium, grabbed the microphone away from Smith and said, “Investigate 9/11 — 9/11 was perpetrated by people in our own government.”

Mills was arrested and charged with trespassing. He has since been released. His message… heard.

Mom Arrested – Tried To Pimp Out her 15 Year Old Daughter For Super Bowl Sex

A Florida woman is jailed after making a Super Bowl week trip from her home to New York City, where she allegedly sought to pimp out her 15-year-old daughter, according to police.

When questioned by cops after her arrest Wednesday, Yolanda Ostolaza, 39, admitted that, “We came up here to work and make money with a pimp. I knew it was for escorting and prostitution,” according to a misdemeanor criminal complaint.

As for her child’s role in the illegal activity, Ostolaza remarked, “I thought my daughter was just going to do the fetish stuff.”

Undercover vice detectives, who initially contacted the teen via an online ad, arranged to pay $200 for a sexual encounter at a Manhattan hotel. When officers later took the girl into custody, she told them her age and said that her mother was waiting for her at a nearby hotel.

Ostolaza, pictured above, was subsequently charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. She remains locked up in lieu of $2000 bail. Her daughter has been placed in the custody of child welfare officials.

Man Arrested – Threatened to Kill George Bush then “Barbara is mine”

A New York man allegedly found sitting in a car with a loaded rifle, machete and a container of gasoline was charged on Friday with threatening to kill George W. Bush after professing a romantic interest in the former president’s oldest daughter, prosecutors said.

Benjamin Smith, 44, of upstate New York was arrested in Manhattan by the U.S. Secret Service, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court.

‘Bush will get his,’ Smith screamed as he was taken into custody, according to the complaint.

Later, when asked about his marital status, he told agents he was divorced and ‘working on a relationship with Barbara Bush.’

At a preliminary hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Griswold told U.S. Magistrate Judge Henry Pitman the government believes Smith was referring to the former president’s daughter and not Bush’s mother, who shares the same name.

It is a crime under federal law to threaten a current or former president.

On Thursday, the man’s mother called police to report she had found a threatening note in the home she shares with her son and that a rifle was also missing, the complaint said.

‘I’m going to work for George W. Bush and the Pentagon,’ the note said, according to the government. ‘I have to slay a dragon and then Barbara Bush is mine.’

Russia Killing Stray Dogs Before Olympics Begin – Calls Them “Biological Trash”

The city of Sochi has hired a private company to kill as many stray dogs as possible before the Winter Olympics, it has been claimed.

Describing the animals as ‘biological trash’, the owner of the company has reportedly admitted being tasked with using poison and traps to rid the city of stray dogs before thousands of tourists and competitors arrive for the Games’ opening ceremony next Friday.

The news will anger animal rights campaigners who thought Sochi officials had abandoned plans to exterminate the stray dogs following widespread protests last year.

Speaking to ABC News, the owner of Basia Services extermination company Alexei Sorokin claimed the animals were a realistic threat to the Games.

‘Imagine if during an Olympic Games a ski jumper landed at 130KPH (80 MPH) and a dog runs into him when he lands. It would be deadly for both the jumper and the stray dog,’ he said.
