The first weekend of Coachella 2014 is through. As is tradition, you can now watch full sets on YouTube ripped from the festival’s webcast. There’s the maligned Outkastreunion, Pharrell‘s guest-heavy set (Nelly! Busta Rhymes! Snoop! Gwen Stefani!),Queens Of The Stone Age returning to their natural habitat (the desert), and many more anticipated performances. It’s like you’re actually there, buffering in the desert with your favourite bands and pre-roll video ads.
He may have written the happiest song of the year, but Pharrell Williams was reduced to tears during his interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The Happy singer sat down with the talk show host for an upcoming episode of Oprah Prime on her OWN Network, and was moved by a video shown to him of people dancing to his chart-topping song.
‘I’m so happy!’ Pharrell, 41, cried before Winfrey showed some pictures of him as a child.
Happy tears: Pharrell Williams cries during Oprah Winfrey interview
Little Pharrell: Oprah had managed to get pictures of the singer as a child
Cute ‘do: They discussed the music that he had listened to as a child.
During the interview, Williams – wearing one of his many distinctive Vivienne Westwood hats – discussed his rise to fame, his song-writing process and the music that influenced him to become a seven-time Grammy winning recording artist and producer.
‘My best songs come from two different ways,’ he says. ‘Either when I have a really good gut feeling about something, it’s written in the shower or on a plane.’
‘Shower’s good, isn’t it?’ Oprah says. ‘There’s something about the water.’
‘The water attracts your ear,’ he says. ‘You get distracted, and your mind wanders.’
Tissue: Winfrey seemed to know the video would bring tears to Pharrell’s eyes
But for his Despicable Me 2 song, Pharrell called it a ‘crazy, half-court shot.’
‘It’s not because you’re that good,’ Williams says. ‘It’s because you’re out of ideas.’
The interview also saw Pharrell talk about his critically-acclaimed new album ‘G I R L’, and his wedding last year to model and designer Helen Lasichanh.
But over the weekend, he was in Indio, California to perform at Coachella 2014, where he reminded the audience of just how many hit songs he’s been behind.
If you haven’t already figured it our from his music, Drake has a really big heart and we’re super happy to see him share it in this way.
Last night, 15-year-old Kennedy Brown got the surprise of her life when Drizzy showed up on her doorstep unexpectedly. According to ABC News, Kennedy, who’s currently in hospice, was diagnosed with brain cancer two years ago, but this weekend she made a special trip back to her high school, Carnegie Vanguard in Houston,TX, where her classmates threw her a surprise prom, crowned her prom queen, and even gave her an honorary diploma in a private graduation ceremony. Part of the goal of the events was to grant Kennedy’s wish of getting a special message or visit from her favorite rapper, which is why classmate Payton Campbell gave out these instructions:
“We would ask all of your viewers to #DrakeForKen so we can get him to come see her or send something for her because that would mean the world to her.”
Thankfully, Drake saw the social media campaign and paid Kennedy a personal visit yesterday that you can tell was likely the highlight of both of their lives. Posting photos on his Instagram page, Drake captioned the pic below with “She asked to touch the brows #accessgranted”
President Obama flew to Texas to herald the “winds of change” that blew through the 1960s — but first, he had to protect First Lady Michelle Obama from a stiff breeze on the tarmac.
Arriving in Austin aboard Air Force One, the president and Mrs. Obama walked down the stairway as a gust threatened to give the first lady an awkward Marilyn Monroe moment.
The wind lifted the first lady’s pleated skirt “enough, above the knee, for the president to reach over and hold it down” to avert an incident, according to a pool reporter who was there.
The first couple laughed at the flap as they walked down the stairs.
At one point in his career during the 1940s, Mickey Rooney was the highest paid actor in Hollywood. But when he died at the age of 93, Rooney left all he had – $18000.00 – to his stepson and caretaker. And he disinherited his former wife and his eight kids from the will.
Rooney’s attorney Michael Augustine said the actor with a career spanning more than 80 years, died on Sunday after having problems breathing the evening before. His family is planning a small funeral for the actor.
Days after being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, the Ultimate Warrior James Hellwig was suddenly dead. He made his last appearance on WWE’s Monday Night Raw, where he thanked fans for their all their support.
“No WWE talent becomes a legend on their own,” Hellwig siad. “Every man’s heart one day beats its final beat. His lungs breathe their final breath. And if that man did in his life what makes the blood pulse through the body of others and makes them bleed deeper and something larger than life, then his essence, his spirit, will be immortalized.”
By the story tellers, by the loyalty, by the memory of those who honor him and make the running the man did live forever. You, you, you, you, you, you are the legend makers of Ultimate Warrior.”
The cause of death is not yet known. Hellwig leaves behind his wife and two daughters.
Here is his last return to the ring on April 7th, where he spoke to the fans.
Still classy, super star Beyonce posed for these pics for the cover of Out Magazine.
For the Out cover, shot by Santiago & Mauricio, Beyoncé is styled by Lysa Cooper, rocking platinum blonde hair, vintage jewelry, and seemingly topless.
In the issue, Beyoncé addresses women’s empowerment, and says that her music opened up that conversation for a younger generation.
“There is unbelievable power in ownership, and women should own their sexuality,” she said. “Being that I am a woman in a male-dominated society, the feminist mentality rang true to me and became a way to personalize that struggle.”
The first time he was spotted with the medallion, they said he hated white people. The medallion it seems, represents the ‘Five-Percent Nation’ – a fraction of The Nation of Islam that believes that black men are superior beings, Gods, creators of the universe.
Well a year later, Jay was seen at a Nets game, sporting the same medallion and again, the controversy is in full effect.
This is how the New York Post began their reporting on Jay’s wardrobe.
Black people are the fathers and mothers of civilization, white men are the devil, the Christian god is nothing more than a ghost and only a small percentage of people understand the world.
These are just some of the beliefs behind the bling — the gaudy Five Percent Nation medallions worn by Jay Z and Carmelo Anthony.
And here I am, thinking he was a ranking member of the Illuminati.
“I’m embarrassed, and I guess I’m just a model of how social media is tricky, It’s a way people meet each other today, but what I’ve learned is you don’t know who’s on the other end,” he explained to hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan. “I used bad judgement, and I learned my lesson.”
In case you missed it, James and Lucy met at the stage door of his Broadway play, Of Mice and Men. He posed for an Instagram video and instructed Lucy to tag him in it. She did, and that’s how he reached out, sending her many questions like “Do you have a [boyfriend]?” and “Where are you staying?” and “When is your [birthday]?” and “What’s your [number]?”
He then asked if he should get a room in her hotel — and sent her a couple of selfies as proof that it was actually him. And when she mentioned telling her friends of her brush with celebrity, he told her not to.
It’s important to note, however, that the age of consent is 17 in New York and 16 in Scotland. Still, even if it’s not illegal, James’ pursuit of a girl who is so many years younger will likely bruise his reputation.
And it’s important to note that this could all be a publicity stunt: James Franco’s new movie Palo Altosees his character seducing a teenager.
The 66 year old comedian began his Late Night career in 1982. On Thursday, 32 years later, he announced his retirement.
“I just want to reiterate my thanks for the support from the network, all of the people who have worked here, all of the people in the theater, all the people on the staff, everybody at home, thank you very much,” Letterman said. “What this means now, is that Paul and I can be married.”
Nick Cannon was recently involved in a stunt that had many on the Internet calling him “racist.” The stunt – a picture showing Cannon wearing makeup to appear white – definitely caused some controversy, but got Cannon the publicity he was after to promote the album.
In an exclusive interview, Cannon explained the decision and why he chose the name, White People Party Music for his album.
“I hoped people would give me a hard time [Laughs]. That’s the whole purpose. It’s just a fun album with a fun title that doesn’t take itself too seriously. At the same time it makes a statement. I always say white people love me, and they know how to have a good time.
Being a DJ, you name all your different crates and playlists. That’s the way I came up with the title. I have bar mitzvah music, trap music, ratchet music and one that says white people party music. And I said to myself, ‘You know, I’m going to name my album that.’ The album could have been titled Purple People Party Music. It’s just a bunch of feel-good songs that tap into the many different places that I’ve been in my life.”
