Rush Limbaugh – “Why Don’t The Homeless Live With Their Families? That Would Make Them Un-Homeless”

California is trying to become the 37th state to participate in a program that gives low-cost cell phones to low-income families and the homeless. The program called The LifeLine Cell Phone program is provided by mobile carrier Assurance Wireless in 36 other states. The purpose of the program is to keep low-income families and the homeless involved with agencies and services that can help their situation.

“This is great – it is transformative for homeless and low-income people,” said Bevan Dufty, San Francisco’s head of homeless initiatives. “I expect San Francisco to be in the forefront and a model city for this program. Fundamentally, to be in the mainstream of our society you have to have a phone,” he said. “And really, for the homeless population, you need a cell phone because they don’t have a home to hard-wire one into. We really need this plan.”

The low cost cell phones are not free. Participants would pay $20.00 for the phone and the initial set up and will receive 250 free minutes per month. They will pay $.10 per minute for time used over 250 minutes. Californians earning less than $14,702 per year are eligible to take part in the program.

But to hear Rush Limbaugh today, helping these poor and homeless people with this service is the wrong move for California. “Why don’t the homeless live with their families?” Rush asked. “That would make them un-homeless,” the Republican mouthpiece said, before he began laughing.

Republicans like Limbaugh credit the Obama administration for the program. They even call the phones “Obama Phones” disregarding the fact that the program began under the Reagan administration in 1985, then started offering cell phones in 2005 under the George W. Bush Administration.

Who Is America’s Most Unpopular Senator? Survey Says… Mitch McConnell

I’m not surprised.

McConnell apparently has a 55 percent disapproval rating in his home state of Kentucky, while just 37 percent of his constituency approves of him. PP Polling says this gives him the worst numbers of any U.S. senator. Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) previously held this title.

Among Republicans, McConnell’s numbers are better, with 59 percent approving of his performance and 28 percent disapproving.

The AIG Bailout Worked – Taxpayers Earned $22.7 Billion in Profit

President Obama did what he felt was right. He authorized the bailout of AIG and received what seemed to be a never ending amount of criticism from Republicans and their news channel, Fox News.

But according to the latest report from the Treasury Department, it appears that the AIG Bailout was the right move, and now the president and the American people are laughing all the way to the bank.

The Treasury Department said on Tuesday that it had sold its remaining stake in the American International Group, earning about $7.6 billion from the sale.

The government sold the 234.2 million shares at $32.50 each, a small discount from the closing price of $33.36 on Monday. The block of shares represented a 15.9 percent stake in the insurer.

With the latest sale, taxpayers have gained about $22.7 billion from a bailout that many predicted would prompt a staggering loss. In an effort to stabilize the global banking system, the government rescued A.I.G. just days after the failure of Lehman Brothers.

The stock sale also means that A.I.G. is a fully private enterprise once more, after the government owned as much as 92 percent of its shares. After the sale, the Treasury Department will hold only warrants to buy about 2.7 million shares of A.I.G. common stock, which will also be sold to generate a profit.

Small Ball Lindsey Graham Calls Obama Is A “Small Ball Guy”

Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham says President Barack Obama is a “small ball guy” but it’s time for him to start “manning up” on cuts to earned benefits like Medicare and Social Security.

Speaking to Fox News host Martha MacCallum on Monday, Graham suggested that Republicans should not agree to tax rate hikes on the rich and should hold a debt ceiling increase hostage until Democrats agreed to “entitlement reform.”

“Here’s where the president is going to have a rude awakening,” the senior senator from South Carolina opined. “In February or March, you have to raise the debt ceiling and I can tell you this, there’s a hardening on the Republican side. We’re not going to raise the debt ceiling, we’re not going to let Obama borrow any more money or any American Congress borrow any more money until we fix this country from becoming Greece. And that requires significant entitlement reform to save Social Security and Medicare from bankruptcy.”

MacCallum noted that Obama told business leaders last week that he would not “play that game” with Republicans because “we’ve got to break that habit” of allowing them to use the debt ceiling in budget negotiations.

“Yes, we will play that game, Mr. President, because this is not a game,” Graham insisted. “The game you’re playing is small ball. You’re talking about raising rates on the top 2 percent that would run the government for 11 days. You just got re-elected. How about doing something big that’s not liberal? How about doing something big that really is bipartisan? Every big idea he has is a liberal idea that drowns us in debt.”

“How about manning up here, Mr. President, and use your mandate to bring this country together to stop us from becoming Greece?” he continued. “So when it comes debt ceiling time, Mr. President, you’re going to have a Republican Party that’s going to make sure we save Medicare and Social Security from bankruptcy and we save this country from becoming Greece.”

Graham concluded: “He’s a small ball guy. He’s afraid of his own party.”

New Poll Finds That Most Americans Believe Santa Claus Is A Democrat

The poll was conducted by PPP Public Policy Polling, and it found;

PPP’s new holiday season poll sees voters in giving moods towards both Barack Obama and Mitt Romney – voters believe both men will be receiving presents from Santa this holiday season rather than a lump of coal, with Romney perhaps getting some sympathy presents.

Voters say Romney will get presents by a 63/37 margin compared to 51/49 for Obama. 44% of respondents said Santa was a Democrat, to 28% who think he is a Republican. 54% of voters said they were concerned that the looming “fiscal cliff” could cause Santa to cut back on his benefits.

Republicans – A Party of “Partisan Rhetoric, Not Policy”

Jonathan Bernstein at Salon made this observation about today’s Republican party:

“We just managed to get through a campaign in which the Republican candidate’s idea of innovation was to hold a convention themed around an out-of-context quote from his opponent. But we knew Mitt Romney was at his heart a manager, not a policy innovator. So maybe it will be better next time, with new candidates such as Bobby Jindal, Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan. Right?”

“Yeah, I didn’t think so.”

“… there’s very little incentive from conservative audiences or conservative voters for policy; what gets them excited (and reaching for their wallets, in many cases) is partisan rhetoric, not policy. For the last several years, the way to get a big reaction in conservative circles is to make a teleprompter or a birther joke, not to bring up unsolved problems in the nation. Just as Swift boats and flip-flop jokes were all the rage before that, and Whitewater, Travelgate and the rest of the nonsense they threw at Bill Clinton was popular in the 1990s.”

Breaking News: Newt Gingrich Tells The Truth – Republicans Can’t Compete If Hillary Runs in 2016

Yes, it’s unbelievable. Newt Gingrich opened his mouth and something miraculous happened… the truth jumped out.

The amazing revelation happened today on NBC’s Meet The Press. Gingrich was talking about the perils of his party and the prospects of them winning in 2016, when he said this;

“If [the Republicans’] competitor in ’16 is going to be Hillary Clinton, supported by Bill Clinton and presumably, a still relatively popular President Barack Obama, trying to win that will be truly the Super Bowl. And the Republican Party today is incapable of competing at that level.”

But that wasn’t the only truth Gingrich spoke today. He kept his mouth opened long enough and more truths to jumped out. This time, Gingrich explained that the reason his party lost the November election was not only because of Mitt Romney was a loser, but also because his party is a loser’s party that refused to adopt to the changing political climate in America.

Gingrich explains;

“We didn’t blow it because of Mitt Romney, we blew it because of a party which has refused to engage the reality of American life and refused to think through what the average American needs for a better future.”

The suggestion was also made that Gingrich should run again for president in 2016. But if Gingrich continues to tell the truth, the Republican party will quickly show him the door. There’s no room for truth tellers in that party, and Gingrich should know better!

Even Republican Leaders Admit To Being Obstructionists – Harry Reid Promises Change

His name is Trent Lott. He was the Senate Minority Whip for the Republicans and in 2007 when Democrats took control of the Senate, Trent explained how a small minority of Republicans were being successful in controlling the majority – by being obstructionists.

Lott explained the strategy: “The strategy of being obstructionist can work or fail… So far it’s working for us.”

That was then, and Lott is no longer in the Senate. But his “obstructionist strategy” continued through Obama’s first term and with over 370 filibusters, Republicans have shown the country that they have no intention in working with the President or Democrats in accomplishing anything. They have shown no will to compromise. Their goal is to try and make President Obama’s presidency a failure.

The Washington Post listed some of the bills that died because of the Republican Block Party. These bills include:

The DREAM Act
The DISCLOSE Act
Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA)
The Public option
Paycheck Fairness Act
Permanent middle-class Bush tax cut extension
Rescinding of the upper-income Bush tax cuts
Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act
Emergency Senior Citizens Relief Act
Creating American Jobs and Ending Offshoring Act
American Jobs Act
The Buffett rule
Teachers and First Responders Back to Work Act of 2011
Repeal Big Oil Tax Subsidies Act

With the new Senate starting in January, many are looking towards Senate Leader Harry Reid to make changes to the Filibuster process, thereby, taking away some of the Republican’s power in blocking bills. Making these changes are not going to be easy. The filibuster’s original goal was to bring a sense of balance to the Senate when it’s used accordingly. So expect Republicans to put up the fight of their lives trying to keep that status quo.

Harry Reid however, is promising change. He explains:

“We’re going to change the rules. We cannot continue in this way. I hope we can get something that the Republicans will work with us on.”

“But it won’t be a handshake, we tried that last time. It didn’t work.”

If Reid is serious about making changes to the Filibuster, this could be the next big fight in Washington after the Fiscal Cliff. January is approaching, and all eyes would be on Harry Reid.

Mitt Romney Visits Pacquiao Before Fight. Pacquiao Gets Knocked Out In 6th Round

We’re not implying anything here, but since losing the presidential election in November, Mitt Romney has been popping up all over the place trying to appear human, trying to appear normal. The multi-millionaire Republican who tried to convince Americans that he was “just like us” was recently seen pumping his own gas and pushing a shopping-cart at COSTCO. And more recently, Romney was seen attending a Pacquiao fight.

Manny Pacquiao – an unbelievably skilled boxer who has won world titles in eight weight divisions – went through his normal preparation for last night’s match against Juan Manuel Marquez, except last night before his match started, Pacquiao had a visitor – Mitt The Loser Romney.

”Hello Manny. I ran for president. I lost,” Romney told the fighter, according to Pacquiao publicist Fred Sternburg. “I wish you good luck tonight,” Romney said, displaying his usual strange smile. “Have a great night. Good to see you.”

Romney and his wife then took their ringside seat and watched as Paquiao got laid out in the sixth round, like wet clothes being laid out to dry.

“I threw a perfect punch,” Marquez later said. “I knew Manny could knock me out at any time.”

Yes, that was true and it was definitely expected that Pacquiao would win last night’s match without breaking a sweat. But something was different last night and even Pacquiao felt it.

“I thought I was getting him in the last couple of rounds,” Pacquiao said. “But I got hit by a strong punch. I never expected that punch.”

My two cents: Pacquiao just felt the effect of the punch in the sixth round. The punch was actually thrown before the match when he agreed to meet with the Republican loser.

December 3rd Report: Seniors Have Saved $5.1 Billion Thanks To ObamaCare

Savings on prescription drugs related to the Affordable Care Act have reached $5.1 billion, according to a Dec. 3 news release from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The Department notes that more than 5.8 million people with Medicare have benefited from the assistance offered to bridge the prescription coverage gap known as the donut hole, with savings reaching $5.1 billion.

For 2013, the new health care law provides Medicare beneficiaries who are in the donut hole with greater savings, with discounts increasing to 53% and 21% of the cost of brand name and generic drugs, respectively. Savings on Medicare coverage of prescription drugs will increase gradually until 2020 to close the donut hole. Almost 2.8 million individuals saved an average of $677 on prescription drugs in the first 10 months of 2012. In addition, for about 23.4 million people with original Medicare, one or more preventive services were received at no cost during the same period, and 2.5 million received an Annual Wellness Visit.

According to the Department’s news release, “because of the health care law, people with Medicare can be healthier with free access (no deductible or co-pay) to many preventive services. Before 2011, people with Medicare had to pay part of the cost for many preventive services. Cost is no longer a barrier for seniors who want to stay healthy and treat problems early. In 2011, an estimated 32.5 million people with original Medicare or Medicare Advantage received one or more free preventive benefits.”

Charlie Crist Is “Proud And Honored To Join The Democratic Party”

Former Florida governor Charlie Crist has completed his political conversion, announcing on Twitter that he has joined the Democrats as a result of the Republican party’s swing to the right.

The one-time GOP politician, who ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate as an independent, had earlier signaled his support for President Barack Obama and campaigned on his behalf ahead of the November election.

News that Crist has formalized the move to the Democratic party will prompt speculation that he may lobby for a run at his old seat in the 2014 gubernatorial race in Florida.

The 56-year-old politician tweeted out a picture of him and his wife Carole holding aloft a Florida voter registration application.

The accompanying message read: “Proud and honored to join the Democratic Party in the home of President @BarackObama.”

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Crist signed the papers changing his affiliation from independent to Democrat at a Christmas reception at the White House. President Obama is said to have greeted the news with a fist bump.
