For A Small Woman, She’s Such A Big Liar – Bachmann Says Obama’s Presidency Costs $1.4B A Year

During last year’s GOP presidential race, Bachmann racked up the highest ratio of Four-Pinocchio comments, so just about everything she says needs to be checked and double-checked before it is reported.

In this case, Bachmann appears to be citing the self-published book “Presidential Perks Gone Royal,” by Republican lobbyist Robert Keith Gray, though one wonders whether she actually read the book — which is only 131 pages — or just read a summary that appeared in the Daily Caller, since many of her points are highlighted in the Daily Caller article.

The Fact Checker read the book so that you don’t have to. It provides no specific sourcing for any of its claims, though in the back it provides a list of articles and books that presumably the author consulted. He claims that the book is not intended as an attack on President Obama, but only on the imperial trappings of the presidency, though the subtitle of the book is: “Your taxes are being used for Obama’s re-election.”

Bachmann, however, framed it as an attack on Obama, and we will examine her claims in that context. How does Obama compare with other presidents?

Bachmann’s headline figure is that Obama’s presidency costs $1.4 billion a year. Gray never quite explains how he developed that figure, though another self-published book, “The 1.4 Billion Dollar Man: Costs of the Obama White House,” by self-help writer John F. Groom, attempts to provide a breakdown. But what is quickly apparent is that this number covers every possible expense, including many having to do with the security that is necessary to protect the president. The figures also include the cost of the White House policy-making staffs. Are those really all “perks and excess?”

Groom’s figures include a number of somewhat fishy guesstimates (“unreimbursed campaign expenses”), but as it happens, a much more credible scholar — former White House aide Bradley H. Patterson Jr. — attempted to figure out the tab for the White House for a book, “To Serve the President,” published in 2010 by the Brookings Institution.

Patterson estimated that the cost of running the White House for fiscal year 2008 — when George W. Bush was president — was nearly $1.6 billion. About half — more than $800 million — related to the Secret Service budget. An additional $271 million was spent on the president’s helicopter squadron.

If Bush is a $1.6 billion man, does that make Obama a relative bargain at $1.4 billion?

Hillary Clinton Comes Out In Support Of Marriage Equality – Video

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and front-runner for the Democratic nominee for President in 2016, has now formally followed the path of many other leading Democrats, including President Obama, in supporting marriage for LGBT Americans. In the video below, Mrs. Clinton explains her reasons.

For America to continue leading in the world, there is work we must do here at home. That means investing in our people, our economy, our national security. It also means working everyday as citizens, as communities, as a country. To live up to our highest ideals and continue our long march to a more perfect Union.

LGBT Americans are our colleagues, our Teachers, our Soldiers, our friends, our loved ones. And they are full and equal citizens and deserve the rights of citizenship. That includes marriage.

That is why I support for lesbian and gay couples.

Boehner “Absolutely” Trusts Obama – Don’t Tell The Teaparty!

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner says he “absolutely” trusts President Barack Obama — not that they don’t have their differences.

Boehner tells ABC’s “This Week” that the two have a good relationship and that they’re “open with each other … honest with each other.” But the Ohio lawmaker says they’re trying to bridge some big differences.

One issue they agree on: The U.S. doesn’t have an immediate crisis in terms of debt.

Some conservatives criticized Obama when he said last week that the country doesn’t have an immediate debt crisis.

Boehner says a debt crisis does loom in the years ahead because entitlement programs are not sustainable if they aren’t changed.

He says balancing the budget will help the economy.

Soccar Player Displays Nazi Salute After Scoring Goal – Video

Greek soccer player Giorgos Katidis has been slapped with a lifetime national team ban after celebrating a goal for AEK Athens by giving a Nazi salute.

Calling Katidis’ actions a “deep insult to all victims of Nazi brutality,” Greece’s soccer federation put an immediate end to the player’s international career, The Associated Press reported.

Images of Katidis – right arm fully extended with palm upwards – making the hateful gesture after netting his team’s 2-1 winner against Veria quickly went viral on Saturday – the same day Greece marked the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the deportation of its country’s Jews to Nazi extermination camps during World War II.

“He is a young kid who does not have any political ideas. He most likely saw such a salute on the Internet or somewhere else and did it without knowing what it means,” the German manager said, according to The Daily Mail.

Fans of AEK Athens have been less supportive than Lienen and are calling for the club to give Katidis his outright dismissal. Team officials are expected to decide his fate in the upcoming days.

Palin Hits Rove At CPAC – Rove Hits Back On Fox

So much infighting going on in the Republican party right now, one can get whiplash trying to keep up. The latest battle was launched by failed Republican vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin as she delivered her 2013 CPAC speech. On a roll with her criticizm of everything from President Obama to Bloomberg’s Big Gulp Soda ban, Palin got carried away and attacked some in her own party.

One of these attacks referenced, though not by name, Karl Rove and his failed attempts in the last election to get more Republicans elected. In her attack, Palin said;

“If these experts who keep losing elections and keep getting rehired and getting millions — if they feel that strong about who gets to run in this party, then they should buck-up or stay in the truck. Buck up or run. The Architect can head on back to the great Lone Star State and put their name on some ballot –- though for their sakes, I hope they give themselves a discount on their consulting services.”

Of course, Karl Rove was not going to take this laying down. Rove went on Fox today and pushed back in an interview

“I’m a volunteer and I don’t take a dime with my work from American Crossroads and pay my own travel expenses out of my own pocket and I thought she was encouraging volunteer grassroots activity and I’m a volunteer,” Rove said. “Second of all, look, I appreciate encouragement I ought to go home to Texas and run for office and, it would be news if I did to have her support. But I don’t think I’m a good candidate — a kind of balding, fat guy. And second, if I did run for office and win, I would serve out my term and I wouldn’t leave office midterm.”

A definite zing to the failed governorship of Sarah Palin, who left office half way through her first term.

Knowing Sarah Palin like I know Sarah Palin, expect her to quickly run to her Facebook page or even an appearance on Fox to respond to Karl’s attack. Expect it in 3,2,1…

Two Ohio School Football Stars Found Guilty Of Rape

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Two high school football stars were found guilty on Sunday of raping a 16-year-old girl last August, in a case that drew wide attention for the way social media spurred the initial prosecution and later helped galvanize national outrage over the episode. The town’s obsession over its football team, many said, had shielded other teenagers who did little or nothing to protect the girl.

One football player, Trent Mays, 17, who had been a quarterback on the powerhouse Steubenville High School football team, was sentenced to serve at least two years in the state juvenile system, while the other, Ma’lik Richmond, 16, who played wide receiver, was sentenced to serve at least one year. Both could end up in juvenile jail until they are 21, at the discretion of the state Department of Youth Services. Mr. Mays’ minimum sentence is twice as long as Mr. Richmond’s because he was found guilty of two different charges.

After Judge Thomas Lipps read his decision, both boys broke down and sobbed. Mr. Richmond turned to his lawyer, Walter Madison, and said, “My life is over.”

Both Mr. Mays and Mr. Richmond apologized to the victim and her family. Mr. Richmond walked over to where they were sitting and said, “I had not intended to do anything like this. I’m sorry to put you through this,” before he broke down, unable to speak any more, and embraced a court officer.

CPAC Republican- Slavery Was Good To Blacks, They Got Food And Shelter

So you thought we were past this? We hear it all the time, that racism is dead because we have a black president! And the you hear things like this: At a recent gathering for the Republican group CPAC, a member says that blacks should be happy slavery happened, because the slaves were provided food and shelter.

The Republican then wished for segregation!

The exchange occurred after an audience member from North Carolina, 30-year-old Scott Terry, asked whether Republicans could endorse races remaining separate but equal. After the presenter, K. Carl Smith of Frederick Douglass Republicans, answered by referencing a letter by Frederick Douglass forgiving his former master, the audience member said “For what? For feeding him and housing him?” Several people in the audience cheered and applauded Terry’s outburst.
After the exchange, Terry muttered under his breath, “why can’t we just have segregation?” noting the Constitution’s protections for freedom of association.

ThinkProgress spoke to Scott Terry after he made his feelings know;

When asked by ThinkProgress if he’d accept a society where African-Americans were permanently subservient to whites, he said “I’d be fine with that.” He also claimed that African-Americans “should be allowed to vote in Africa,” and that “all the Tea Parties” were concerned with the same racial problems that he was.

Conservative Calls Dole, McCain And Romney “A Series Of Losers”

Conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly bashed on Saturday former — and failed — Republican presidential nominees Bob Dole, John McCain and Mitt Romney, calling them establishment candidates who moved to the center based on advice from consultants rather than embracing conservative values.

“We’ve had the establishment pick another loser for us,” she said of Romney, the 2012 Republican nominee, at CPAC. “The fight we have, and the fight I want you to engage in, is the establishment against the grassroots. The establishment has given us a whole series of losers. Bob Dole and John McCain. Mitt Romney.”

“Why is it that the establishment has given us this bunch of losers?” she added later.

Schlafly, like some other speakers at CPAC, insisted that Washington, D.C., consultants were in part to blame for Republican losses in 2012. Karl Rove, who founded the super PAC American Crossroads, drew her particular ire for backing so many candidates who lost.

“If you had a football coach with that kind of score, I don’t think you’d see him the next year,” she said of Rove.

Instead, she said the Republican Party needed to listen to people like former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin — who ironically was the vice presidential candidate to McCain, the Arizona senator who ran for president in 2008.

Picture this: In your travels, you forgot your ipad on the plane, never to be seen again. A month or so later, you began getting some strange pictures on your iphone. The pictures, it turns out, are coming from your missing ipad that is set up to post all pictures to your icloud account.

That scenario is being played out right now in the life of Allen Engstrom who, after a trip to Phoenix, realized that his ipad was missing. About a month later, Allen started noticing some photos being posted to his icloud account and soon made the connection – the women in the photos is in possession of his ipad.

Allen posted the photos on his Facebook page, hoping that somehow, he will be able to identify the women in the pictures and get his ipad back. “All I have is her image and the power of social media to help me get my iPad back,” Allen says, so we here at EzKool figured we’ll do our part to advance technology, while at the same time, get Allen’s ipad back.

Get Ready For The Dave Chappelle Comeback?

Speculation of a comeback by Dave Chappelle has begun anew, following a rare three-night appearance by the reclusive comedian at a New York comedy club recently.

Chappelle’s name is trending on social media today after he was joined on stage by Chris Rock at New York’s Comedy Cellar and the two joked about going on tour together.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Rock told Chappelle, “You should come down to Palm Beach,” to which Chappelle replied, “After next Tuesday, I’m free for like 11 years.”

The two even sent a text to Jay-Z and left a voice message for Arsenio Hall from the stage. “This could be the show, — fireside chats with Chris Rock,” Chappelle reportedly said.

“I’m in,” Rock replied, according to the Times.

Asked about the possibility of a Rock-Chappelle tour, Chappelle’s rep told Entertainment Weekly: “I can’t even say.”

Chappelle walked away from Hollywood in 2005, in the middle of his extremely popular “Chappelle’s Show” on Comedy Central.

He spent some time in Africa before hunkering down in rural Yellow Springs, Ohio, with his wife and family.
