The 65-year-old Russian man was diagnosed with hepatitis C and cancer, and would have died if he didn’t get the liver transplant. He traveled to the United States and paid $500,000 for the transplant. The liver came from a 38 year old black man. What happened next left everyone, including doctors, perplexed.
“I noticed that his skin was getting darker,” said Igor Atamanenko, life-long friend of 65-year-old, Semen Gendler. “When he told me they had given him the liver of an African-American man, I guess that was probably the reason for the color change.
“I have known my friend for years, and he has always been if anything extremely pale, and now for the first time ever he is becoming dark-skinned.”
Gendler does not mind the change.
“I could end up much darker than this, to be honest,” he said. “I don’t care. The main thing is that the liver works and I am healthy.”
Gendler says doctors are at a loss as to what is causing the color change.
“It’s incredible,” he said. “I am now so full of energy and living between two cities in New York and Krasnodar, and if my skin ends up dark, who cares? I certainly don’t.”
According to the 12 year old boy, it was a staring contest and the girl was “laughing” the whole time. But when the girl’s parents found out that a black boy was staring at their daughter, the boy was suspended from school the next day.
“I never knew she was scared because she was laughing,” the boy wrote in an apology letter. “I understand I done the wrong thing that will never happen again. I will start to think before I do so I am not in this situation.”
The incident happened at a school in Glendale, Ohio. The boy’s parents files a lawsuit against the school claiming their child was denied due process, but a judge dismissed the suit and the suspension was upheld.
According to a statement from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati:
Judge Patrick Dinkelacker listened to the plaintiff’s arguments yesterday, rejected them, and dismissed the complaint against the school. We aren’t going to comment any further on particular issues concerning our students.
ThinkProgress is reporting that Florida has executed 84 people since the Supreme Court announced the modern death penalty regime in 1976. Zero of them are white people sentenced to death for killing an African American. Indeed, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, “no white person has ever been executed for killing an African American” in the state of Florida.
Nor is Florida particularly unusual in the racial impact of its death penalty. In Alabama, 6 percent of murders involve black defendants and white victims, but 60 percent of black death row inmates were convicted of murdering a white person. In Louisiana, a death sentence is 97 percent more likely in murder cases where the victim is white. Nationwide, only 20 white people have been executed since 1976 for killing a black person. By contrast, 269 black defendants were executed for killing someone who is white.
As ThinkProgress’ Nicole Flatow and Adam Peck explained in January, nearly all of the people executed in 2013 were convicted of killing at least one white person. Of the 39 executions that took place last year, 32 involved a white victim — and only one white person was executed for killing only a black man:

That’s Sen. Al Franken’s (D-MN) take on the whole “Santa is white” debate.
“You know, there’s been a lot of controversy about the ethnicity of Santa lately,” the former “Saturday Night Live” comedian joked Wednesday on NPR’s “Morning Edition.” “Maybe, you know, he’s Jewish.”
Senate lawmakers on Tuesday night celebrated a third year of their gift exchange, which Franken came up with to bring colleagues from both sides of the aisle together for the holidays.
Among this year’s quirky gifts were presidential Pez dispensers, buffalo jerky, and an elephant statue carved from coal. That last one was a present from West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D) to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).
Fox Host Megyn Kelly, kicking off a discussion with her panel on Fox News, stated something she called a fact – that Santa Claus was white. Megyn went all out to make sure that any kids watching Fox News at that moment knew that Santa was a white man. Well that was then, this is now.
It seems Megyn Kelly has had a change of heart. Due to all the press her dumb statement caused, Kelly is walking back her statement, calling it “a joke.” and based on a video below she’s apparently blaming everybody for not knowing that she was joking.
In kicking off the lighthearted segment, I offered a tongue-in-cheek message for any kids watching, saying that Santa, who I joked is a real person whose race is identifiable, is white.
In her video response to the outrage her statement caused, Kelly tried a classic Republican trick, projection – turning her statement around and blaming the audience for taking her statement seriously. This projection trick is classic for Republicans. We’ve seen them play this game times before where they say something outrageous, and when called on it, they take a Holier than thou position, acting as if they were always right and you were always wrong for correctly understanding their statement.
Prepare yourself to be bulldozed. The turn the tables method demonstrated in the video below is a doozie.
“Well, this would be funny if it were not so telling about our society,” Kelly says, “in particular the knee-jerk instinct by so may to race bait and to assume the worst in people. Especially people employed by the very powerful Fox News channel.”
America, we have a problem. And I am not talking about the usual problems, like the fact that Republicans are trying to take away your health care, take away your social security, take away your jobs and as soon as they have made your life as miserable as possible, they give you machine guns and send you on your merry way.
No America, these are just small insignificant problems. According to Joe the Plumber and his website however, our major problem is the President of the United States, who happens to be a Democrat… and who hapoens to be black!
Joe the Plumber. You remember him right? He is the same one who skyrocketed to Republican fame back in the 2008 election when he was seen on video asking then candidate Obama a question about his tax policy. Mr. Obama answered, then included this phrase in his answer, “when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”
This statement was obviously taken out of context, but Joe was seen as a Republican hero for it. According to the Republicans, Joe got the President to admit his secret wish for “wealth redistribution and socialism.”
Joe the Republican hero plumber, also ran loosing campaign for the House of Representatives.
And now, Joe is back and he is armed with a website. And in one of the articles on Joe’s website the author details his reason for a white Republican in the White House.
That article, written by Kevin Jackson, challenges you to admit that you just miss the good old days when your President’s face was as white as snow. Now–you might start feeling like a little bit of a racist after coming to terms with your desire to have a white man leading your country, but don’t worry: the article was written by a black guy, allowing you to use it to justify your bigotry!
Isn’t this exciting?
Jackson, the monumental idiot, feels that:
election of a recognized black president was not supposed to change anything. In fact, it was supposed to (1) ease any perceived racial tensions, and (2) allow the government to focus on legislating without race. So America would be more free than ever to discuss the issues.
Not the case. And that is why having a white Republican president is best for the country.
So because Obama didn’t magically wipe out all racism, and North Carolina still exists, we need a white Republican in charge?
What in the hell are you smoking, Jackson?
The nutjob continues to prattle on about how blacks have never been called racist for being critical of a white President, accuses Democratic Presidents of racism (of course), and–the coup d’état, claims Ronald Reagan “ushered in a veritable Renaissance for blacks,” citing an article written by Michael Reagan, son of Ronnie…who certainly would never misrepresent his father’s legacy!
Joe, of course, uses the fact that a black man wrote an article that happens to, in a twisted way, justify his bigoted and horrible world views, to claim that it’s not just right to want a white Republican man in office–it’s the American way!
