Bernie Sanders Vows to Fight Racism in America if Elected President

His events have become a favorite hangout spot for Black Lives Matter protesters, so Bernie Sanders finally addressed the concerns of the movement, vowing to fight racism if he becomes president in 2016. Speaking in front of a packed Los Angeles arena, Sanders attempted to address the concerns of the group.

“There is no president that will fight harder to end institutional racism,” said Sanders, who was answered with a deafening roar and chants of “Bernie” from a packed Los Angeles Sports Arena, whose usual capacity is about 16,000 people.

The rally began taking on the issue head-on as Symone Sanders — Bernie Sanders’ new national press secretary who is not related to the candidate — opened the program and talked at length about racial injustice.

Symone Sanders is a black criminal justice advocate and a strong supporter of Black Lives Matter movement, and said Sanders was the candidate to fight for its values.

“It is very important that we say the words ‘black lives matter,’ Symone Sanders said. “But it’s also important to have people in political office who are going to turn those words into action. No candidate for president is going to fight harder for criminal justice reform and racial justice issues than Senator Bernie Sanders.”

On Saturday, protesters from Black Lives Matter took over a microphone at a Sanders event in Seattle and forced him to abandon an afternoon speech.

Bernie Sanders Hits Back at #BlackLivesMatter

At a recent Netroots Nation conference, Democratic candidate for President Bernie Sanders was criticized for suggesting combating economic inequality as an answer to institutional racism in America. “Black people are dying in this country because we have a criminal justice system which is out of control, a system in which over 50 percent of young African-American kids are unemployed,” Sanders said at the conference. “It is estimated that a black baby born today has a one in four chance of ending up in the criminal justice system.”

He was booed by some in attendance for not directly addressing the question of racism.

On Sunday, Sanders doubled down, stating that economic inequality must be dealt with in addition to institutional racism.

“We have to end institutional racism, but we have to deal with the reality that 50% of young black kids are unemployed, that we have massive poverty in America, that we have an unsustainable level of income and wealth inequality,” he said on NBC’s Meet the Press.

“We have to address both,” he added, referencing the efforts of Martin Luther King Jr. to combat poverty in America.

Sanders was lambasted by some black activists last weekend at progressive conference Netroots Nation, where critics accused him of focusing on economic issues over racial inequality.

“My view is that we have got to deal with the fact that the middle class in this country is disappearing, that we have millions of people working for wages that are much too low impacts everybody, impacts the African American community even more,” he said on Sunday. “Those are issues that do have to be dealt with, and just at the same time as we deal with institutional racism.”

Final Vote – South Carolina Confederate flag Coming Down

You can still fly the flag on your own property, but the “deeply offensive symbol” as South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley called it, is officially coming down from the State’s capitol grounds.

After nearly all of South Carolina Senators voted to take the flag down last week in a 36 to 3 vote, the state’s House voted to do the same early Thursday morning, in a 220 to 94 vote. The bill was sent to Governor Nikki Haley around 1am to be signed into law.

The flag received renewed scrutiny after a racist white supremacist – seen in pictures burning the American flag and waving the confederate flag – murdered nine black church members as they held a Bible Study in a predominantly black Church in Charleston South Carolina. Among those killed was the pastor of Emanuel AME Church and a State Legislature, Pastor Clementa Pinckney. Gov Haley then promised that she would used Executive order to removed the flag if all other measures failed.

Among those calling for the flag’s removal was Rep. Jenny Horne, who made a passionate plea to her fellow representatives before the vote was held.

No Joke – Florida County Votes to Put Confederate Flag Back Up – Video

It’s Florida, so what do you expect. If there were ever going to be a vote in favor of flying the confederate flag, Florida would be the place to hold such a vote! And today, after all the fuss about the racism surrounding the flag, Florida has decided to put their flag back up on full display!

Officials in Florida’s Marion County have decided to buck the national — not counting Mississippi — trend of removing the Confederate battle flag from government buildings by restoring the one they took down after the June shootings in Charleston, South Carolina.

At the Marion County Commission meeting Tuesday morning, “several” members of general public argued that the flag ought to be restored, and the commission voted to do exactly that.

Members of the commission assured the Ocala Star Banner’s Kristine Cane, however, that the flag would be accompanied by an informative display that would outline its historical significance.

More Racist Actions from Paula Deen – PIC

Brand new accusations of racism were hauled at Celebrity Chef Paula Deen Tuesday, after she took to Twitter and posted a picture – reportedly taken in 2011 – of herself dressed as Lucille Ball from I Love Lucy, and her son sporting a brown face, apparently meant to represent Lucy’s husband, Rickey.

“”Lucyyyyyyy! You got a lot of esplainin’ to do! #TransformationTuesday,” the photo caption read.

Twitter users went understandably went NUTS!

Deen was dropped from Food Network in 2013 after she admitted in a videotaped deposition to using the N-word and to telling staff that she wanted her brother to have a ‘”southern plantation wedding” featuring an all-black waitstaff. Deen gave the deposition for a discrimination suit against her, her company and her brother. The fallout from those comments cost her several other lucrative business relationships.

It’s Open Season on Black Churches – Two Separate Church Fires Ruled Arson

The terrorists in our midst are not ISIS, but racists calling themselves white supremaists, or to speak in lament terms, ignorant white people who think they are better than the rest of us.

Since the gruesome killing of 9 people at a South Carolina black Church a week ago, at least two more predominantly black Churches have suffered the same type of hate historically associated with these ignorant people. One Church in Georgia and another in North Carolina.

In Georgia, God’s Power of Christ Church in Macon was set on fire early Tuesday morning. Macon county fire chief Ben Gleaton, told local media that as per investigators, the fire was intentionally started. And in Charlotte North Carolina, firefighters there are calling another fire at another black church an intentional act.

Amazingly,  the same folks who think they’re superior to everyone else, are the same folks committing these neanderthal acts.

South Carolina Lawmaker Says Victims Responsible for Their Own Death – Video

In an interview with CNN, the Republican – yes, only a Republican would come up with such garbage to spew on television – said that the nine victims who welcomed their killer in their Church and then murdered by that killer as they held a Bible study, are to be blamed for their demise.

According to State Representative Bill Chumley, if the pastor or any of the other eight victims had a gun while studying the word of God and that pesky commandment that says, thou shall not kill, then one of them could have used their gun and blasted the killer’s remains all over the front pews.

Chumley believes that the victims were just sitting there patiently waiting for their chance to get shot, and he ponders, “Why didn’t somebody just do something?”

EBay Will No Longer Sell Confederate Flag Merchandise

EBay follows in Walmart’s footsteps in banning a racist merchandise like the confederate flag from its site.

“We have decided to prohibit Confederate flags, and many items containing this image, because we believe it has become a contemporary symbol of divisiveness and racism,” eBay spokesperson Johnna Hoff said in an email to CNN. “This decision is consistent with our long-standing policy that prohibits items that promote or glorify hatred, violence and racial intolerance.”

Hoff added that the company continually monitors and evaluates its 800 million products on its site to ensure that they are “consistent with our core purpose.”

Walmart to Stop Selling Products Showing Confederate Flag

CNN is reporting that Walmart has decided to stop selling merchandize promoting the logo of the confederate flag.

“We never want to offend anyone with the products that we offer,” Walmart spokesman Brian Nick said. “We have taken steps to remove all items promoting the confederate flag from our assortment — whether in our stores or on our web site. We have a process in place to help lead us to the right decisions when it comes to the merchandise we sell. Still, at times, items make their way into our assortment improperly — this is one of those instances.”

The confederate flag, a symbol of racism and a favorite icon of white supremacy groups, has come under fire since Dylann Roof – one of its followers – went into a predominantly black Church in Charleston South Carolina and murdered nine people as they held a Bible study. South Carolina’s governor Nikki Haley has finally suggested removing the flag from certain government facilities in her state.

Rick Perry Calls Mass Shooting at Black Church in South Carolina an “Accident” – Video

And he is running for President of the United States!

“This is the M-O of this administration,” the Republican presidential candidate said in an interview with Newsmax. “Any time there is an accident like this — the president is clear, he doesn’t like for Americans to have guns and so he uses every opportunity, this being another one, to basically go parrot that message.”

The “accident” Perry was referring to is the intentional, calculated shooting of 9 black people in a South Carolina Church by a racist 21-year-old. The former Republican governor of Texas also chalked up the massacre to the need for more prescription drugs.

“Also, I think there is a real issue to be talked about,” Perry continued. “It seems to me, again without having all the details about this, that these individuals have been medicated and there may be a real issue in this country from the standpoint of these drugs and how they’re used.”

Dylann Roof’s White Supremacist Group Donated Thousands to Republican Candidates

The leader of a white supremacist group that apparently influenced Dylann Roof, the suspect in the killing of nine African-Americans in a Charleston, S.C., church last week, has donated tens of thousands of dollars to Republican campaigns, including those of 2016 presidential contenders such as Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum and Rand Paul, the New York Times reports.

Mr. Cruz, a Texas senator, said Sunday night that he would be returning about $8,500 in donations that he had received from the Texas donor, Earl Holt III, who lists himself as president of the Council of Conservative Citizens.

“We just learned this evening that Mr. Holt had contributed to the campaign,” a spokesman for the Cruz campaign said in an email to The New York Times. “We will be immediately refunding all those donations.”

Mr. Paul’s campaign said it planned to send $2,250 received from Mr. Holt to a victims’ fund set up in the wake of the shooting.

“RandPAC is donating the funds to the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund to assist the victims families,” said Sergio Gor, a spokesman for the campaign. Mr. Holt made four separate donations to the Paul campaign last year, records show. The campaign could not confirm the total received but said that all the money it identified from the white supremacist leader would be donated to the fund.

The Guardian first reported on Mr. Holt’s donations to the Republican contenders.
