Once again, Donald Trump stood in front of his supporters and suggested that someone could assassinate Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential candidate, if it weren’t for all her bodyguards and all the guns they carry. Trump then advised Clinton’s bodyguards to “drop all weapons,” and “disarm,” in anticipation of what would then happen to Mrs Clinton.
Here’s the Republican presidential candidate anticipating what could happen to Hillary Clinton if her bodyguards took his advice.
You know she’s very much against the second amendment. She wants to destroy your second amendment. Guns! Guns! Guns, right? I think what we should do is, she goes around with armed bodyguards like you’ve never seen before. I think that her bodyguards should drop all weapons. They should disarm. Right? Right? I think they should disarm. Immediately. What do you think, yes? Yes. Yes. Take their guns away, she doesn’t want guns. Take their… Let’s see what happens to her.
The Democratic presidential candidate was caught on video today, apparently suffering a “medical condition” according to early reports.
Mrs Clinton had to leave a September 11th Memorial event early because she was feeling “overheated.” She was helped outside to the street by her handlers where she waited for her car to arrive. As she stepped off the curb to her car, Mrs Clinton is seen falling as her handlers held her up and placed her in the car. She lost a shoe in the process.
“Secretary Clinton attended the September 11th Commemoration Ceremony for just an hour and thirty minutes this morning to pay her respects and greet some of the families of the fallen,” Clinton campaign spokesperson Nick Merrill said in a statement Sunday morning. “During the ceremony, she felt overheated so departed to go to her daughter’s apartment, and is feeling much better.”
I know you. You’re a Democrat, or at least someone who believes that Donald Trump is a disaster waiting to happen, and you’ve been very concerned over the past week because the polling seems to indicate that Hillary Clinton’s once safe lead is vanishing with every news release. You also wonder how anyone, and I (you) mean ANYONE, could vote for that Trump guy, and it’s a travesty that he’s even polling in the forties, much less close to Clinton. And you also fear that not only can Trump say anything without being punished in the polls, but that Hillary is losing. LOSING.
With all of this in mind, I have a question for you: Are you daft?
Let’s calm down and look at some reality. First of all, Clinton has a lead in every national poll aggregation since, well, the spring and she continues to lead in the RealClearPolitics average of both national and state polls (sorry, but that CNN poll is an outlier. Like Pluto.). She also is ahead in enough states to have more than the 270 electoral votes in RealClear, FiveThirtyEight, Princeton Election Consortium,electoral-vote.com (where on Sunday Clinton was losing Ohio and Florida, but still winning the election) and..and…and every other reputable polling site in the media ether. Plus, the odds that Hillary Clinton will win the election are above 70% according to most calculations and above 80% in some others. Last week, the Washington Post released polls for each of the 50 states and found that…Hillary is leading in enough states, even Texas and Georgia, to win handily. But that’s clearly not enough for you weak-kneed liberals who must have your 90% win projections and a 400+ electoral vote landslide in the bag before Labor Day.
It’s not going to happen. Hillary is not popular enough and voters are in a foul mood and the country is locked in at about 45% support for each party, with the middle 10% the deciding voters. It’s striking to hear that some Republicans will not vote for Trump, but there are still Bernie voters who won’t vote for Hillary. Plus, it’s still relatively early. Political junkies have been mainlining the politics cut with baking soda for more than a year now. The pure stuff doesn’t arrive until September 26. That’s when most of America will pay serious attention.
Which brings me to the most noxious comment that people make about Donald Trump, that he can say anything and not be punished in the polls. He is being punished in the polls. His numbers are terrible and they continue to be terrible even with the race tightening. If you look, you’ll see that Trump is still polling nationally in the low 40% range. The race is getting closer because Clinton’s numbers are falling a bit because of the email and Clinton Foundation stories. She also essentially took the summer off to raise money and to let Trump say ridiculous things without competing for air time.
Trump’s numbers didn’t budge. His supporters remain who they were during the primaries (and by the by, Hillary is essentially right about them). He’s doing abominably with women, Hispanics, African-Americans, college-educated people and those with middle and upper middle class incomes, and he’s saying nothing that will win them back. To go even further, even with Clinton’s troubles, more voters support her for president than Trump. It’s terrible that this election seems to be a race to the bottom, but Trump is winning that race convincingly.
Starting this week, Hillary Clinton will be more visible and she will begin to actually run for president. She’s clearly the best qualified, and she’s the candidate with the answers that most other Americans agree with on the issues of the day. They don’t agree with mass deportations or banning Muslims from the country or Trump’s view that the country is a cesspool of stagnation, violence and decay run by a president who might still not be a citizen, but is definitely a Muslim. Hillary will make her case and make it forcefully. I also think that the debates will be an eye-opener for Trump because he’s going to be called on every one of his contradictory comments and will be forced to actually take a stand on issues he’s clearly not studied. Hillary will also have some zingers of her own and she’ll show a sense of humor that many voters don’t think she has.
And that’s ultimately why Hillary Clinton will win the election. She’s ahead in the polls now and my take is that she’ll still be leading by this time next week and the week after that. She will use the debates to reintroduce herself, her qualifications, her vision for the country and her steady realism and that will enable her to win.
The Democratic candidate for president spoke at a New York fundraiser Friday night, and explained who these people are and why these “deplorables” belong in this basket. According to Clinton, they’re “the racists, sexists, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it.”
Her excuse was good. Right after taking the stage at a campaign event in Cleveland on Monday, Hillary Clinton began coughing almost uncontrollably. She immediately blamed the cough on being allergic to Donald Trump.
“Every time I think about Trump I get allergic,” she said as she continued to cough while trying to thank the event organizers.
“Once I get over my allergic reaction, let me say that we’re here in part because we know how important this election is to Ohio. It’s not just as Tim said that Ohio is one of those battleground states you hear about every four years, it’s that Ohio represents everything that’s great about America and all of the challenges and opportunities that we face.”
Rest assured, this coughing fit will be featured in an attack video by Donald Trump and the Republican party. They have claimed a mysterious Clinton sickness for a long time, so wait for the attack video in 3,2,1…
“Secretary Clinton has demonstrated her skills as Secretary of State, especially but by no means exclusively in helping other Asian countries counter Chinese bullying in the western Pacific…”For Republicans and Democrats alike, everything in national security requires clarity and steadiness, whether managing nuclear weapons or balancing great power rivalries.””
Those are the words of James Clad, the former deputy assistant secretary of Defense under Bush. Clad is just one of the former Republican president’s officials who have dumped the Trump ship and endorsed the Democrat in the race.
Clad talked about the importance of never losing sight of national interest. He said that is a “discipline which Secretary Clinton possesses in full measure.”
“Our adversaries must never hear flippancy or ignorance in America’s voice,” he added.
You do realize that this will be the last week that food stores will be listing summer fruits, vegetables and other items in their sales flyers, right? After Labor Day it will suddenly be soup, oatmeal and cold/flu medicine time even though it’s likely to be near 80 degrees where most of us live. Such are the vagaries of the seasons and the need to sell stuff.
But it also means that the political races will turn for home as people return to work after a vacation, if they can afford it, and politicians return to their capitals for a fleeting moment of relevance before spending full time campaigning. For all the talk about how this year was going to see a different campaign with different rules, it has been a remarkably stable presidential race, and the Senate is coming down to a few important races to see if the Democrats can take control of the chamber. Donald Trump has changed the tenor of the campaign somewhat, but most of what he’s done has not helped him and I can’t see future races taking serious notes from his playbook.
At this point, the polling for the presidential race shows that Hillary Clinton has a solid lead that hasn’t really changed much since the Democratic Convention in July. According to the RealClearPolitics national average, she has a 6 point lead as of today and is ahead in enough states to garner 272 electoral votes if the election was held today. Which it is not. Other state polling sites like electoral-vote.com, the Princeton Election Consortium, and Electionprojection.com show Hillary with a bigger lead.
Most polling shows Trump with about 42% of the national vote, and that has been his ceiling since July. If anything, this is his biggest problem. He will somehow need to expand his appeal significantly if he is to seriously challenge Hillary over the next month, before the first debate on September 26. This will likely be his last chance to help himself since most research says that the first debate is the most important for possibly changing people’s minds.
Of course, this all presupposes that Trump’s potential pivot on immigration doesn’t cause him to lose support from his base, or that something overly consequential is lurking in Clinton’s email server or that we are attacked at home or abroad. Enjoy the last quiet week of August. Next week the real show begins
Donald Trump called her a bigot, among other things. But when Clinton addressed Trump’s racism today, Trump and his followers cried foul! Apparently, what’s good for the goose is not good for the gander.
Rudy Giuliani has said and done some stupid things in the past. And today was no exception. In an interview on Fox News, the former Republican mayor of New York offered his proof that Hillary Clinton is seriously ill, “go online” he said, “and take a look at the videos for yourself.”
“She doesn’t need to campaign,” the former New York City mayor, who has emerged as one of the Republican nominee’s most visible surrogates, said on “Fox News Sunday.” “She has the New York Times, she has the [New York] Daily News, she has ABC, she has CBS, she has NBC. She has an entire media empire that constantly demonizes Donald Trump and fails to point out that she hasn’t had a press conference in 300 days — 200 days, 100 days, I don’t know how long — and fails to point out several signs of illness by her.”
Fox News host Shannon Bream noted that the Clinton campaign has said “there’s nothing factual” to claims about her health.
“All you’ve got to do is go online,” Giuliani replied. “Go online and put down ‘Hillary Clinton illness’ and take a look at the videos for yourself.”
The irony of Giuliani, the mayor of New York City during the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, citing Internet videos to prove a conspiracy theory was not lost on some viewers.
The Clinton campaign has pushed back against conspiratorial claims about her health in recent days after fake medical records for the former secretary of state surfaced on right-wing websites.
“As Secretary Clinton’s longtime physician, I released a medical statement during the campaign indicating that she is in excellent health,” Lisa Bardack said in a statement released by the Clinton campaign on Thursday. “I have recently been made aware of allegedly ‘leaked’ medical documents regarding Secretary Clinton with my name on them. These documents are false, were not written by me and are not based on any medical facts. To reiterate what I said in my previous statement, Secretary Clinton is in excellent health and fit to serve as President of the United States.”
Former Bush official and former U.S Treasurer, Rosario Martin, said on Wednesday that although she is a Republican and worked in a Republican White House under George Bush, she will not be voting for the Republican candidate in 2016, but will instead vote for Hillary Clinton.
“I have disagreed with and criticized Hillary Clinton’s positions, but I have come to the conclusion that she would be a far better president than the Republican candidate could ever be,” Rosario Marin said.
“She understands that words spoken from the White House have consequences, that sarcasm is not a strategy when dealing with delicate world situations, that our friends and foes listen to every word spoken by our president and react accordingly,” Marin added.
“There is too much at stake both domestically and abroad to have a thoughtless individual at the helm of the most important economy in the world. My party and its standard-bearer leave me no choice; on November 8, I will vote for Hillary Clinton.”
Marin, who is Hispanic, said she could not tolerate GOP nominee Donald Trump’s rhetoric on immigration and the Hispanics.
“I have come to the devastatingly painful realization that my party right now doesn’t want my vote nor that of my community,” she said. “Evidently it is not important, or not as important as some other voting bloc. So, for me to consider the unthinkable — to vote for a Democrat — has been a profound soul-searching process.
What are you hiding Donald? Why shouldn’t the American people know the truth about your finances? Must be some sick secrets you are trying to hide.
Hillary Clinton and her running mate, Tim Kaine, released a new batch of their own income tax returns on Friday, ratcheting up the pressure on her opponent, Donald J. Trump.
The income taxes of Mrs. Clinton, along with her husband, former President, Bill Clinton, showed an adjusted gross income of $10.6 million for 2015, revealing how during the campaign the Clintons have reined in their moneymaking efforts after many years of lucrative speeches, book deals and business endeavors. Mr. Kaine, the Virginia senator, and his wife, Anne Holton, reported income of $313,441 for 2015.
But aside from their earnings, the latest showing by the Democratic candidates was intended to put a spotlight on Mr. Trump’s failure to release his returns.
The New York businessman has declined so far to release his income tax data, saying that will not do so while he is facing an audit from the Internal Revenue Service — a highly unusual move for a major party candidate. Mike Pence, the Indiana governor and Mr. Trump’s running mate, has not made public his tax data during the campaign.
Mrs. Clinton’s spokeswoman, Jennifer Palmieri, said in a statement the release sets a “stark contrast” with Mr. Trump, whom she accused of “hiding behind fake excuses.”
“He has failed to provide the public with the most basic financial information disclosed by every major candidate in the last 40 years,” she said. “What is he trying to hide?”
On Hillary Clinton and why he is voting for her, Republican Congressman Richard Hanna of New York, said;
“I believe that she can do the job and the Republican Party, who I think damaged itself by pandering so deeply to its extremes, has alienated so many categories of people in this country. You know, young people, women, Hispanics, the LGBT community.”
And why he is not supporting his fellow New Yorker and the leader of his party, Donald Trump? Hanna explained,
“He’s unhinged. It’s difficult to imagine why anyone could support him. He comes across as a demagogue. He comes across as a guy who, frankly, Putin has made a fool of. The ways, the reasons not to support him are growing by the day.”
