First Sexual Transmission of Zika Virus from Woman to Man Reported in New York

Although the Zika virus is mainly transmitted from mosquitoes to human, sexual transmissions from men to women or between two men have also been documented. But in New York, there is a confirmed transmission of Zika from a woman to a man.

This is a first.

“This represents the first reported occurrence of female-to-male sexual transmission of Zika virus,” said a report issued on Friday by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The evidence of a previously undocumented transmission means is the latest twist in a viral outbreak that continues to baffle and surprise leading experts. It is prompting officials to rethink, once again, the guidance for health care providers and the general public on how to limit the danger of infection, as the pool of those who could be at risk widens.

Much about how the virus works is a mystery, and it remains challenging to detect; 80 percent of those infected show no symptoms. For those who do get sick, the illness is often mild, and there is no treatment.

But Zika can pose a dire risk to pregnant women. It targets developing nerve cells in fetuses and can lead to a birth defect called microcephaly, in which babies are born with abnormally small heads and brain damage. It may also cause developmental problems after birth.

Zika is primarily transmitted by the yellow fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti, which thrives in warm, tropical climates. But 11 countries have documented cases of sexual transmission from a man to a woman. Among the 1,130 people who have received a Zika diagnosis in the continental United States, including 320 pregnant women, the C.D.C. has reported 15 cases of sexual transmission.

Donald Trump Postpones his VP Announcement

Photo – REUTERS/John Sommers II

It was supposed to happen on Friday at 11am and for the entire week, cable news organizations went dizzy with anticipation trying to figure out who Trump would choose as his Vice President. Well since the news broke that a terrorist attack had happened Nice, France, Trump is using the event to gain more mentions from the cable news talkers. He has now postponed his announcement.

In a tweet to his followers, Trump said, In light of the horrible attack in Nice, France, I have postponed tomorrow's news conference concerning my Vice Presidential announcement.

French officials say “at least 70 people” were killed in the terrorist attack where a truck plowed into a crowd in Nice.

It should also be noted that Indiana Gov. Mike Pence got the VP nod. MSNBC is reporting that Trump’s campaign has confirmed Pence as The One!

Potential Trump VP has Sealed his Congressional Record

Nothing to see here folks, keep it moving.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence could become the next vice president of the United States, but he has gone out of his way to prevent people from seeing his congressional record. If the man was proud of his work, would he have sealed it from the public? I doubt it!

Pence is believed to be on Donald Trump’s shortlist of potential vice presidential candidates.

His congressional library, housed at Indiana University in Bloomington, is closed until either Dec. 5, 2022, or Pence’s death.
“It’s not standard, but it’s not unusual,” Dina Kellams, the school’s director of university archives, told The Huffington Post.

The website noted that former Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) put similar restrictions on his own congressional papers before opening up some parts of his archives.

Kellams said Pence could open up his library if he chooses.

Pence met with the presumptive Republican nominee and his children Wednesday in Indiana as the businessman inches toward naming a running mate. Trump is expected to pick his VP by the end of the week.

Pennsylvania Girl Hit by Car While Playing Pokemon GO

This game can easily be put in the same category as drunk driving or texting while driving as participants walk around with their eyes glued to their smartphones,  blindly walking into potential danger.

A Pokemon Go player, 15, has been hit by a car while playing on the popular app, prompting her mother to warn other teens to beware of the game.

Autumn Diesroth, of Pennsylvania, suffered injuries to her collarbone and foot when she was struck by the vehicle at the intersection of Ross Street and East Ninth Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

Her mother, Tracy Nolan, says her daughter had been playing the game when she found herself at the busy highway. When she tried to cross, she was hit.

‘The Pokemon game took her across a major highway at 5 o’clock in the evening, which is rush hour,’ Nolan told Channel 11.

‘Parents, don’t let your kids play this game because you don’t want to go through what I went through last night. I really thought I was losing my daughter,’ she said.

Rick Perry on Trump’s Build-a-Wall Plan – “I know you can’t do that”

It is the corner stone of Donald Trump’s campaign, it is the the low hanging fruit of the Republican party… it’s easy pickings
The idea that Donald Trump will “build a wall” along the Mexican border and that “Mexico will pay for it,” was all they needed to hear and the base loved it, propelling Trump to the top of the Republican party.

But Former Texas Governor Rick Perry, a Trump supporter by the way, is breaking away from Trump and his “I will build a wall” nonsense. In a recent interview, Perry stated that Trump will nor be building any wall… at least not a real wall in the physical sense of the word.

“I’m for Donald Trump, and he says we’re going to build a wall, the Mexicans are gonna pay for it,” Perry told Snapchat’s Peter Hamby on “Good Luck America.”

Hamby remarked, “It’s not going to happen.”

“Well, it’s not,” Perry said, explaining, “It’s a wall, but it’s a technological wall, it’s a digital wall.”

Perry, who is supporting Trump, commented, “There are some that hear this is going to be 1,200 miles from Brownsville to El Paso, 30-foot high, and listen, I know you can’t do that. ”

Miami Republican Mayor – “I’m Not Supporting Donald Trump” – Video

He appeared on MSNBC’s Hardball and explained that he didn’t support the Republican nominee for president because Donald Trump “lacks compassion.” Earlier, after the police killing of two more black men and the killing of five police officers in Dallas, Trump said that he is the candidate of law and order, as well as the “candidate of compassion.”

Asked if he had any idea who Donald Trump should name as his vice president, Miami Republican mayor Tomás Pedro Regalado, said “it doesn’t matter to me because I’m not supporting Donald Trump. And the reason I’m not supporting is I don’t think he is a candidate of compassion. A person with compassion do not call people who don’t look like him ‘murderers’ and ‘drug dealers’ and ‘rapists.'”

Regalado then went on to explain he’s been a public figure for 20 years, but for the first time in that span, he’s getting emails telling him to “go back to your country!”

President Obama Talks About his Legacy on Race Relations – Video

President Obama has cut short his trip abroad to come home and address the high tension between the black community and those hired to protect and serve, the police. But while the President visited Poland, he was asked to talk about what his legacy on Race Relations in America will be after he leaves office.

“More than anything, what I hope is that my voice has tried to get all of us, as Americans, to understand the difficult legacy of race; to encourage people to listen to each other; to recognize that the legacy of slavery and Jim Crow and discrimination didn’t suddenly vanish with the passage of the Civil Rights Act, or the Voting Rights Act, or the election of Barack Obama; that things have gotten better, substantially better, but that we’ve still got a lot more work to do… We plant seeds, and somebody else maybe sits under the shade of the tree that we planted.”

Kansas Cop Threatens Random Black Woman and Her Daughter on Facebook

The threat came after five police officers were shot and killed in Dallas. The Kansas cop apparently trolled Facebook, found the woman’s profile and proceeded to threaten her and her little daughter.
“We’ll see how much her life matters soon,” the officer said. “Better be careful leaving your info open where she can be found 🙂 Hold her close tonight it’ll be the last time.”

The Overland Park police officer was fired Friday after the Texas woman reported the threat made the night before, shortly after a gunman opened fire on law enforcement officers during a Black Lives Matter demonstration, reported the Kansas City Star.

The comment was made from the officer’s personal Facebook account on photos of the woman’s daughter she had posted in 2014.

The woman has no idea how the officer found her Facebook profile or why he targeted her and her daughter.

“I had no clue who this guy was,” said the woman, LaNaydra Williams. “I was angry, and then I was scared.”

The police department launched an investigation Friday morning after Williams reported the comments, and the officer was fired hours later.
