Tiniest National Treasure Throws Out First Pitch

The ceremonial first pitch in baseball has been a tradition for almost as long as baseball has been around. But on a sunny Tuesday afternoon in San Francisco, fans got to see quite possibly the best one yet.

Monday, all eyes were on the Bronx as Derek Jeter started in his final home opener of his storied career.

But by Tuesday, all eyes had shifted to San Francisco and little Miles Scott was set to kick off the Giants home opener with a ceremonial first pitch to remember. Miles is a 5 year old Leukemia survivor who has touched the heart of millions. But due to unforeseen circumstances, Miles was not able to attend. Perhaps it has something to do with his now socialite status from his recent fame. Some have likened this child to Bruce Wayne (billionaire Gotham City playboy and heir to the Wayne fortune).

Luckily for fans, Batkid showed up just in the nick of time to take over First Pitch duties. It’s interesting to note that no one have ever seen Miles Scott and Batkid in the same place at the same time.

Ok. I’ve had my fun with this story, as anyone would because this kid is just so awesome.

Miles Scott’s one wish was to be sidekick to the famed superhero, Batman. Well, this child’s wish went viral. On November 15th, 2013, the city of San Francisco rallied around him in one of the largest and most elaborate Make A Wish plans ever. Actors were hired and sets were designed to give young miles multiple different crime scenarios where by the end of the day, he was able to save Gotham City.

The San Francisco Chronicle even produced a “Gotham City Chronicle” edition with the headline

BATKID SAVES CITY. Hooded Hero Nabs Riddler: Saves Damsel In Distress

The Mayor of San Francisco, Ed Lee, presented Batkid with a key to the city and declared November 15th, Batkid day. Batkid even received a video of thanks from President Obama.

Flash foreword to Tuesday as Giants pitcher Matt Cain walked with Batkid hand in hand out to the pitchers mound so that he could deliver the first strike of the day with the help of Batman himself. The scene was one of the most heart warming, this baseball fan has ever seen. Batkid, Miles Scott is an amazing child and Tuesday afternoon, he reminded us what baseball is all about. It’s about the kids.

Thank You, Batkid. You are the greatest superhero of them all.

Report – The Koch Brothers are Benefiting Financially From Obamacare

Amazing, isn’t it. These two billionaire brothers are practically responsible for the Teaparty Movement, convincing poor and apparently ill-informed Americans that having healthcare is a bad thing. Yet, according to Senate Leader Harry Reid and the Associated Press, these same billionaires are benefiting nicely from the same healthcare they are set against – Obamacare.

From the Associated Press;

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., renewed his criticisms of the Kochs this week. In a Senate chamber speech, Reid noted that Koch Industries benefited from a temporary provision of the health care law.

The Early Retiree Reinsurance Program, Reid said, “helped the company pay health insurance costs for its retirees who are not covered by Medicare.” Reid asked sarcastically: “So it’s OK for Koch Industries to save money through Obamacare” even as Koch-related groups seek the law’s repeal.

When Congress enacted the health care law in 2010, it appropriated $5 billion for the temporary reinsurance program. The goal was to subsidize employers’ costs for workers who retire before they become eligible for Medicare. Hundreds of employers applied – many were corporations, cities and public universities – and virtually all the money was soon distributed.

“If the Affordable Care Act is so awful,” Reid asked, “why did Koch Industries use it to their advantage?”

Federal records show that Koch Industries received $1.4 million in early retiree subsidies. That’s considerably less than the sums many other employers received. A Koch Industries spokesman said he had no comment on Reid’s latest criticisms.

The Cheneys Turn Against Rand Paul – Fox Follows

Senator Rand Paul is slowly realizing that statement he made years ago could come back to haunt him in the 2016 presidential election.

Today mother Jones highlighted a video showing Rand Paul making some rather truthful statements about former Vice President Dick Cheney. In the video, Rand Paul is heard talking about Dick Cheney and the hypocrisy of Cheney decision making during the first and second Bush presidency.

Rand Paul believes that Cheney only became interested in a war in Iraq after he became the CEO of Halliburton and saw the opportunity to make millions of dollars with a war in Iraq. Halliburton – I’m sure you’ll remember from civics 101 – is a company that specializes in oil and oil products, thus, Iraq.

Did you really think the Cheneys were going to stay quiet and take this one laying down? Well think again. Luz Cheney to the rescue!

“It’s not surprising since Senator Paul often seems to get his foreign policy talking points from Rachel Maddow.”

And Fox News via contributor and former United Nations Ambassador John Bolton chime in with, “Senator Paul should repudiate his remarks and apologize to Vice President Cheney.”

This one’s not over yet folks. Watch this space. 🙂

Still classy,  super star Beyonce posed for these pics for the cover of Out Magazine.

For the Out cover, shot by Santiago & Mauricio, Beyoncé is styled by Lysa Cooper, rocking platinum blonde hair, vintage jewelry, and seemingly topless.

In the issue, Beyoncé addresses women’s empowerment, and says that her music opened up that conversation for a younger generation.

“There is unbelievable power in ownership, and women should own their sexuality,” she said. “Being that I am a woman in a male-dominated society, the feminist mentality rang true to me and became a way to personalize that struggle.”

Apparently, Republican Women Don’t Care about Equal Pay for Equal Work – Video

Terri Land

Women have always placed second to men when it comes to getting equal pay for equal work. And the President and Democrats in Congress have been pushing legislation and implementing laws, trying to make a difference.

Their simple concept is this. If a woman does the same work as  a man, then they both should be paid the same.

Former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land  apparently disagrees. Land is a Republican running for the US Senate and says that equal work for equal pay is not a big deal to women. According to Land, “job flexibility” for women is more important.

Well we all like to be paid more and that’s great but the reality is that women have a different lifestyle. They have kids, they have to take them to get dentist appointments, doctors appointments all those kinds of things and they’re more interested in flexibility in a job than pay.

We’re told that Land is a woman.

This Republican is Praising Obamacare – Wants Enrollment Centers to Remain Open

Source (AP) - Call Center

A Republican Congressman who has sought to repeal the Affordable Care Act praised the Obama administration for keeping open a call center dedicated to enrolling people into the law after the initial enrollment period.

In a statement posted on his campaign website last week, Rep. Vance McAllister (R) revealed that he, along with Louisiana Senators Mary Landrieu (D) and David Vitter (R), lobbied General Dynamics, the company who operates the call center, to preserve the more than 600 jobs in the state.

“This is excellent news for the City of Bogalusa and the hundreds of high quality workers employed by General Dynamics whose jobs are now saved,” McAllister said. “I’m pleased to see that the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services saw how important this is to my district and the state of Louisiana. As long as I am in office I will continue to fight for the health of our economy and the preservation of jobs.”

A spokesperson for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services clarified that “Call centers operated by CMS contractors have supported our effort to enroll millions of Americans in quality, affordable health coverage.” HHS says it will have 3,800 full-time call center employees “to handle marketplace activities outside of open enrollment.”

Role Models – This Republican Say “Stand Up to Obama” like Assad and Putin Did

Lee Bright

In the clip below, listen to South Carolina State Senator Lee Bright describe his role models while calling out his party leaders for not being more like dictators Bashar al-Assad and Vladimir Putin, when it comes to opposing our democratically elected president, Barack Obama.

Lee “Bright” is currently running for the US Senate. His opponent is another Republican wingnut, Lindsay Graham. In the audio, “Bright” said;

Republicans need to learn to start playing offense and quit playing so much defense. You look at, of course I hate to use examples, you look at Assad and you look at Putin, when people stand up to Obama, you see that he backs up and his lines in the sand become erased.

If Boehner had the courage that Putin and Assad had, we’d be living in a different America, but we don’t have the leadership and we’ve got to continue to try to get folks to Washington that are going to take the fight to the liberal agenda.

Rand Paul: Dick Cheney Invaded Iraq – Made Millions For His Company – Video

“There’s a great YouTube of Dick Cheney in 1995 defending President Bush #1 and the decision not to invade Baghdad in the first Gulf war, and he goes on for about five minutes. He’s being interviewed, I think, by the American Enterprise Institute, and he says ‘it would be a disaster, it would be vastly expensive, it’d be civil war, we would have no exit strategy.’

“He goes on and on for five minutes. Dick Cheney saying it would be a bad idea. And that’s why the first Bush didn’t go into Baghdad. Dick Cheney then goes to work for Halliburton. Makes hundreds of millions of dollars, their CEO. Next thing you know, he’s back in government and it’s a good idea to go into Iraq.”

Guess who said those words? That’s right, it was Rand Paul. Those words are just part of what the Republican/Libertarian said about his former Republican vice president. Rand Paul, a Republican prospect to run for president in 2016 opened his mouth in the video below and guess what…? The truth jumped out.

The video below was brought to light by Mother Jones.

Paul had more to say about Cheney. See the video below.
