Sylvester Stallone – “Who Needs An Assault Weapon? Like Really…!”

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Sylvester Stallone says that despite his “Rambo” image and new shoot-em-up film “Bullet to the Head,” he’s in favor of new national gun control legislation.

Stallone supported the 1994 “Brady bill” that included a now-expired ban on assault weapons, and hopes that ban can be reinstated.

“I know people get (upset) and go, `They’re going to take away the assault weapon.’ Who … needs an assault weapon? Like really, unless you’re carrying out an assault. … You can’t hunt with it. … Who’s going to attack your house, a (expletive) army?”

The 66-year-old actor, writer and director said he also hopes for an additional focus on mental health to prevent future mass shootings.

“It’s unbelievably horrible, what’s happened. I think the biggest problem, seriously, is not so much guns. It’s that every one of these people that have done these things in the past 30 years are friggin’ crazy. Really crazy! And that’s where we’ve dropped the ball: mental health,” he said. “That to me is our biggest problem in the future, is insanity coupled with isolation.”

She Performed At President Obama’s Inauguration And Was Shot In Chicago

Thanks to@TonyLBlackwell for this.

She performed in a marching band for President Obama’s second inaugural, but the mean streets of Chicago ended up taking the life of 15 year old Hadiya Pendleton.

A 15-year-old girl who performed at President Obama’s inauguration last week was shot dead Tuesday while hanging out with friends in bullet-scarred Chicago.

Hadiya Pendleton was standing under a canopy in Vivian Gordon Harsh Park when a gunman ran down an alley, opened fire at the group and fled in a white car, police said.

Pendleton was shot in the back but managed to run about a block before she collapsed, officer Laura Kubiak said. She died at the hospital.

A 16-year-old boy was wounded in the 2:20 p.m. incident. Police said Pendleton, who had no criminal record, was probably not the intended target.

NYC Mayor Bloomberg’s Next Big Idea: Micro-Mini Apartments

A design team comprised of Monadnock Development, Actors Fund Housing Development Corp. and nArchitects, has won Mayor Bloomberg’s competition, “adAPT NYC”, to create micro-apartments for New York city dwellers.

The winning unit, called “My Micro NY,” features a 10-foot ceiling and a mini outdoor deck. The units will all be built at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and then transported to Manhattan. The first of the pre-fab rentals will be ready by September 2015 and will settle on 27th Street on the east side. The mayor said the project is part of his plan to create or preserve 165,000 affordable homes in the city by 2014 and will create 55 new micro units–with  40 percent slotted to be affordable housing for low and middle-income New Yorkers.

Reportedly about four times the size of a typical prison cell, the mayor had this to say of the diminutive apartment project:

“People from all over the world want to live in New York City, and we must develop a new, scalable housing model that is safe, affordable and innovative to meet their needs.”

New York journalist Greg Pollowitz who writes for Rueters stated, “If the mayor really wants to address the market for apartments in NYC, a hard look a the rent stabilization and rent control laws is needed, too. Not just a relaxation of zoning laws to provide for these tiny units.”

As a New Yorker, I’d have to agree.

Texas Will Execute A Woman Tonight

For the first time in three years a female inmate will be put to death in Texas by lethal injection.

Kimberly McCarthy, 51, was sentenced to death for the 1997 robbery, beating and fatal stabbing of her 71-year-old neighbour Dorothy Booth.

Dorothy Booth
Kimberly McCarty – 1997

A retired college psychology professor, investigators say Mrs Booth had agreed to give McCarthy a cup of sugar before she was attacked with a butcher knife at her home in Lancaster, about 15 miles (24 kilometers) south of Dallas.

It was among three slayings linked to McCarthy, a former nursing home therapist who’d been addicted to crack cocaine.

Her lethal injection is scheduled for tonight.

McCarthy will be the 13th woman executed in the U.S. and the fourth in Texas, the nation’s busiest death penalty state, since the Supreme Court allowed capital punishment to resume in 1976.

In that same time period, more than 1,300 male inmates have been executed nationwide.

Congress Finally Approves $50.5 Billion In Hurricane Sandy Relief

Ninety days after Hurricane Sandy landed on the East Coast, Congress is finally sending help.

The Senate voted Monday to approve a $50.5 billion emergency aid bill for victims of Hurricane Sandy, three months after the storm began pounding the Northeast.

“I am so glad that we are finally coming to a moment where we can get relief to New Jersey families,” Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey said.

The vote was 62-36. The bill now goes to President Obama for signing.

Monday’s action brings the total amount of Sandy aid approved by Congress to $60.2 billion. That includes $9.7 billion the House and Senate approved on Jan. 4 to pay flood insurance claims related to the storm.

Senators defeated an amendment from Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah that would have offset the $50.5 billion in emergency aid by making across-the-board reductions in discretionary spending over nine years.

The measure received 35 votes, well short of the 60 it needed to pass.

Chicago Mom Loses Fourth Child To Gun Violence

Five people were gunned down in Chicago yesterday, which included a man who was the son to a local woman who already lost 3 of her kids to gun violence.

The 34-year-old son, the youngest of Shirley Chamber’s children, was shot in the head while sitting in his car on the West Side of Chicago.

WLS-TV reported Shirley’s two other sons and daughter were shot in separate attacks more than a decade ago.

Shirley told ABC News:

“Right now, I’m totally lost because Ronnie was my only surviving son.

What did I do wrong? I was there for them. We didn’t have everything we wanted but we had what we needed.

They took my only child. I have nobody right now. That’s my only baby.

After the gunman shot Ronnie Chambers, he then continued to shoot down 3 other men on the South Side, with two of them left dead and one critically injured.

Video Shows Man Attacking Woman Then Throwing Her Onto Subway Tracks

PHILADELPHIA – A Philadelphia man was arrested by transit police Thursday for allegedly throwing a woman on the subway tracks at a station in the city’s Chinatown neighborhood, CBS Philly reports.

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority police said surveillance footage showed the man approaching the woman Tuesday afternoon on the subway platform asking for a light, before beating her.

“By the time I zipped my jacket back up, that’s when he was on me, on my neck,” the victim, who wished to remain unidentified, told CBS Philly. “I was just telling him, ‘I don’t have no money,’ and he was just like, ‘Shut up.’ ”

Authorities said the man then grabbed the woman by her ankles and threw her onto the tracks before walking away with her phone.

“I started trying to fight him back, and kick just as much as I could. And he grabbed me by the legs.” the woman said. “He seemed fine, he didn’t seem like he was crazy.”

SEPTA Police Chief Thomas Nestell said the woman was able to climb off the tracks and suffered only bumps and bruises.

“I am so happy that a train didn’t come on either side, because I don’t know what would have happened then,” the woman told CBS Philly.

Police arrested William Clark on Thursday afternoon, recognizing that he was wearing a jacket similar to the one seen in the surveillance video. Authorities said Clark has a previous criminal record, and it was unclear whether he knew the victim.

New York School Bus Drivers Begin Strike Today

More than 8,000 New York City school bus drivers and matrons went on strike over job protection this morning, leaving some 152,000 students, many disabled, trying to find other ways to get to school.

Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said the strike started at 6 a.m. Wednesday. About 200 bus drivers and bus matrons were assembled on picket lines in the Queens section of the city.

‘The first days will be extremely chaotic,’ Walcott told 1010 WINS radio. ‘It hasn’t happened in New York City in over 33 years.’0ver 33 years’

The union did not immediately return calls and emails seeking comment.

Most of the city’s roughly 1.1 million public school students take public transportation or walk to school.

Those who rely on the buses include 54,000 special education students and others who live far from schools or transportation.

Whom So Ever Shall Conspire Against Us

CONSPIRACIES

“Just because you’re paranoid and you think they are after you…doesn’t mean they’re not after you.”

A healthy dose of suspicion and skepticism never hurt anyone. In fact, you might say that its good for you. If you believe in Einstein’s Theory of Evolution, the human genome would have never made it outside the primordial soup if it hadn’t had a basic hunch (well, as much a hunch as a complex, organic polymer could have) to access the hostilities of a new environment and gradually mutate, adapt and conform to it. Its in our DNA to be suspicious of things that “just don’t smell right.”

Grounded in our primitive nature is the capacity to be wary of the bigger, more powerful among us (predators) conspiring against the weaker, smaller among us (prey). We like to use words like “civilized”  and “cultured” when describing ourselves, but in actuality we use them to convince ourselves that we are no longer the ‘animals’ that we once were. But our Merriam Webster definition of those adjectives do not do much to subdue a compulsion to behave the exact opposite. WE ARE greater than that, but we haven’t as of yet embraced it fully as a group. Watch any episode of Animal Planet and see if some of the behavioral patterns of our fellow creatures seem somehow familiar...

This is not meant to sound harsh, because there’s really nothing for us to be ashamed of. We are what we are after all, and there is only room to evolve even further until we reach our pinnacle, whatever  and wherever that may be.

As mentioned earlier, our base instincts are what keeps us alive in this physical world, so by Human standards a little paranoia is a damn good thing. Read the rest of this entry

Bronx New York – Woman Accused Of Trying To Scam Victim of Sandy Hook Shooting

A soulless Bronx grifter posed as the aunt of 6-year-old Newtown massacre victim Noah Pozner in a twisted scam to collect bogus-charity donations, the feds charged yesterday.

Nouel Alba, 36, even told prospective donors that she had to enter Sandy Hook Elementary School after the bloodbath and identify her “nephew” for police — and said the child had “11 gun shots in his little body.”

Noah was the youngest of 20 first-graders murdered in the Dec. 14 rampage, which also killed six educators. His family has said Alba is no relation.

Alba allegedly sent out her first calls for cash within hours of the shooting.

The next day, she said in an online posting that a funeral fund had been set up “for my brother and families,” according to the complaint in Hartford federal court.

She used Facebook, the phone and texts to solicit donations, and asked that they be sent via her personal PayPal account or direct bank deposit, the complaint charges.

Alba allegedly claimed in a text to one mark that she met President Obama with other family members and he “hugged us even cryd [sic] with us.”

Several people were duped into giving donations, the complaint says, although she refunded them before her arrest. Alba was charged with lying to federal agents and released on a $50,000 bond.

Graphic Video Shows Police Officer Gunning Down Man In His Own Driveway

Graphic footage of a police officer shooting a man eleven times outside a suburban home – killing him – has been released a day after the officer was cleared of wrongdoing.

Attorneys for Ernesto Duenez Jr., 34, showed the video, which was recorded by a camera in the cop’s patrol car on June 8, 2011, at a press conference in Oakland, California on Wednesday.

It shows police waiting for Duenez, who was wanted in connection with a domestic violence incident that day, to arrive at a friend’s home. They swoop on the home once he arrives in a pickup truck.

Duenez, a passenger in the truck, can be seen climbing across the seats and opening a door as Manteca police officer James Moody runs towards the vehicle with his gun pointed.

Police have claimed the officer saw a knife in the man’s right hand and feared he might throw it or charge at him in the frantic, fast-paced exchange. Duenez’s family’s attorney says he was unarmed.

On the video, Moody is heard shouting: ‘Drop the knife now!’ and ‘Hands up! Hands up, Ernie! Don’t you move, Ernie, don’t you move or I’ll shoot you!’

The officer is seen firing 13 bullets in 4.2 seconds as Duenez moves to get out of the car.

He was shot 11 times – once in the head, eight times in the body and twice in the extremities – and four were while he was on the ground. He died of gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen.

George Zimmerman Photo – My Only Question Is…

George Zimmerman released this colored photo showing the injuries he allegedly received on the night he killed Trayvon Martin. The photo is an obvious attempt to bolster his Stand Your Ground defense on why he killed the unarmed teenager.

My only question here is this: would Mr. Zimmerman be this bloodied if he had mind his own business and not pursued Trayvon Martin all over the neighborhood, especially after he was told by the authorities to leave Trayvon alone?

Had he listened to the police, Martin would still be alive and Zimmerman’s his blood would be on the inside, instead of being prominently displayed in this colored photo.

Try again George, this one’s not gonna fly.
