Zimmerman: A Hero, You Ain’t!

George Zimmerman leaves court after the not-guilty verdict was read in Sanford, Fla,. on July 13.

Was it a coincidence that George Zimmerman was in the right place at the right time when a SUV, travelling past the home where he’s been holed up since his not guilty verdict, overturned and crashed less than a mile from where Zimmerman shot Martin. Or was it aplot devised by Zimmerman’s defense attorneys to mold the pudgy 29 y.o old self-appointed neighborhood watchman into some type of hero? In lieu of a federal investigation concerning whether Zimmerman violated Martin’s civil rights followed by a possible civi suit against him and the state of Florida, I would say stranger things have happened…like his acquittal for instance.

George Zimmerman, who has been in hiding since he was acquitted of murder in the death of Trayvon Martin, emerged to help rescue a family who was trapped in an overturned vehicle, police said today.

Zimmerman was one of two men who came to the aid of Dana and Mark Gerstle and their two children, who were trapped inside a blue Ford Explorer SUV that had rolled over after traveling off the highway in Sanford, Fla. at approximately 5:45 p.m. Thursday, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The crash occurred at the intersection of I-4 and route Route 46, police said. The crash site is less than a mile from where Zimmerman shot Martin.

By the time police arrived, two people – including Zimmerman – had already helped the family get out of the overturned car, the sheriff’s office said. No one was reported to be injured.

Zimmerman was not a witness to the crash and left after speaking with the deputy, police said.

It’s the first known sighting of Zimmerman since he left the courtroom following his controversial acquittal last week on murder charges for the death of Martin. Zimmerman, 29, shot and killed Martin, 17, in Sanford, Fla., on Feb. 26, 2012. The jury determined that Zimmerman shot Martin in self-defense.

So Much Done. So Much More To Do.

If you follow the news every minute (used to be every day), you’d think that Obama’s presidency has been a grand failure. After all, he didn’t save the world, or make friends with the terrorists and turn them into democrats or make the economy zoom along at a 5% growth rate or clean the air or any number of things that he either promised to do or was expected to do when he took office in 2009.

Instead, he faced some of the most extreme opposition of any president and really only accomplished most of his agenda when he Democrats controlled both houses of Congress by filibuster-proof (in the Senate) majorities. I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind people that many other presidents faced concerted opposition including Theodore Roosevelt (from his own party), Woodrow Wilson, FDR (from the Supreme Court and Congress), JFK, LBJ, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. That any president can get things done under our constitution is a monumental accomplishment, but somehow we as a country manage to move forward.

So it is today. The Senate has thawed some over the past two months and recently avoided internal chaos with the approval of a good number of Obama appointments. Of course, the GOP is now facing buyers remorse on that compromise, but only because they got, well, nothing out of the deal. And it looks like the stars might not align on immigration reform because the House, always extreme on the right or left, will not consider a comprehensive bill. In fact, the House is so busy voting to repeal the health care law that there’s precious little time for anything else.

In this environment, it’s useful to remind everyone just how much Barack Obama has accomplished in just over a term. Those accomplishments are listed in this article, and should be required reading of anyone who says we’ve done nothing since 2008.

We’ve had financial and bank reform, health care reform, the saving of the automobile industry, and avoided a depression. But there’s more and any thinking American should know that. So take a look and understand that our government was built to act slowly. That works both for and against us, but it is how the framers constructed the system. We will have more landmark legislation over the next three and a half years. Some of it will be incomplete and need revision in a few years. Some of it will become part of the fabric of American life.

‘Letter to Zimmerman’ Goes Viral: ‘You Are Now Going To Feel What It’s Like To Be A Black Man’

A Facebook post directed at George Zimmerman, the man recently acquitted for the murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, has gone viral.

Facebook user Alex Fraser posted the heartfelt letter on July 13, and as of 9:30 a.m. Sunday, it has received nearly 100 comments and 150,000 likes.

Fraser beings his letter by telling Zimmerman “for the rest of your life you are now going to feel what its like to be a black man in America.”

You will feel people stare at you. Judging you for what you think are unfair reasons. You will lose out on getting jobs for something you feel is outside of your control. You will believe yourself to be an upstanding citizen and wonder why people choose to not see that.

People will cross the street when they see you coming. They will call you hurtful names. It will drive you so insane some days that you’ll want to scream at the top of your lungs. But you will have to wake up the next day, put on firm look and push through life.

Three Bodies Found – Sex Offender Arrested

A 35-year-old registered sex offender has been arrested after Ohio police found three bodies wrapped in plastic in the same 300-yard radius on Friday and Saturday. All three victims are believed to be black females who were killed in the last six to ten days.

East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton said the suspect, who has not been charged yet, might have been inspired by serial killer Anthony Sowell, who was convicted of murdering 11 women and hiding their bodies in his home.

“[The suspect] said some things that led us to believe that in some way, shape, or form, Sowell might be an influence,” Norton told the AP.

Police are continuing the search for more victims after the suspect allegedly hinted that there could be more bodies in the area. One body was found in a garage on Friday. On Saturday, police discovered a second body in a nearby backyard and a third body in the basement of a vacant house. According to police, the bodies were wrapped in trash bags and left in a fetal position.

UPDATE: 2nd Suspect Arrested For Raping, Throwing 16-Yr-Old Off Brooklyn Roof

725 Miller Avenue (Google Maps)

Police have arrested the second suspect wanted in the rape and attempted murder of a 16-year-old girl on Sunday. Cops had already arrested Anwar Desouza but were still seeking Antonio Owensford. And, late last night, the NYPD announced Owensford was in custody.

According to the Daily News, “Desouza, 24, connected with the teen through Backpage.com — a classified advertising website often used to peddle sex — and had her come to his East New York apartment early Sunday, the sources said The girl arrived, and the pair went to the roof, where they ran into Desouza’s pal, 26-year-old Antonio Owensford, shortly after 3 a.m., sources said. Desouza, while negotiating the terms of their $100 tryst, told the teen that he refused to wear a condom, sources said.”

After arguing, the News’ sources say that the men raped the girl and then Owensford threw the girl off the building. She suffered injuries to her leg, arm and back and is in serious condition. Owensford was charged with attempted murder, two counts of rape, assault and strangulation.

Desouza was arraigned yesterday on charges of attempted murder, assault, rape and strangulation, and his attorney proclaimed his innocence, “He has a job for six years at Whole Foods, lives with wife and children,” said his attorney. He strongly denies the allegations and having any involvement in what happened on the roof.”

The president of the 75th Precinct Community Council, Juan Rodriguez, told the Post he saw the victim in the hospital, “The parents are very sad. Who wants to get their 16-year-old daughter raped and thrown off a roof? These guys are monsters.”

One neighbor told NBC New York, “I felt bad because I got a daughter and I wouldn’t want that to happen to my child. And I’m a girl and I wouldn’t want that to happen to me. I go out and I come in late at night, and you don’t know what might happen.”

NJ Man Found Guilty Of Molesting Sleeping Woman On Flight

Bawer Aksal
Last year, a man was arrested for allegedly groping a fellow plane passenger’s breasts and genitals as she slept next to him on a Phoenix to Newark flight. Yesterday, a federal jury found Bewar Aksal guilty of criminal sexual contact and sexual abuse.

The victim, 50, testified that she had been sleeping next to the window when she woke to Aksal’s hand in her shorts. The pain, she said, “that’s what woke me up.” She alleged that he whispered to her, “Kiss me,” and said, “I was completely humiliated. I was absolutely freaking out. I wanted to go hide somewhere.”

Another passenger said that Aksal was spooning her and he thought they were a couple. And a flight attendant told the court the victim “came to the back (of the airplane) almost panicking. She was in distress, shaking and crying.”

Aksal, 49, was arrested when the plane landed and allegedly told FBI investigators that the victim came onto him. Yesterday, he cried after the verdict was announced. Aksal faces up to life in prison.

HORROR! Police Free Four People Held Captive FOR YEARS in ‘Prison Room’ in Houston Home

Police in Texas have freed four men from a north Houston home where they were held captive in an alleged scheme to defraud them out of welfare, Social Security and veterans’ benefit checks.

The victims range in age from 50 to 80, police said. In addition, four women, three of whom are believed to suffer from physical disabilities and mental illness, were also found at the home, thought it is not yet known whether they were being held captive.

Police Sgt. Steven Murdock said a neighbor called authorities Friday morning expressing concern about men in the house in the northern part of the city. Officers who responded found three men locked in a “prison room” in a garage and a fourth man in the home.

Officers broke down a door that had been nailed shut, and discovered what they described as a trash-filled scene of squalor. The men were suffering from malnourishment, living in a converted garage that contained no furniture, CNN affiliate KTRK reported. According to Murdock, the men were forced to sleep on the linoleum floor.

Police freed four men from a home in north Houston where they were held for years in a scheme to defraud them out of welfare and veterans benefit checks.

Eight people have been held captive at a north Houston house, with some perhaps dwelling in what’s described as a “prison room” and one man possibly kept against his will for a decade, police said.
