Kobe Bryant Announces His Retirement

In a poem-like announcement titled, Dear Basketball, the Los Angeles 20 year veteran of the NBA announced that this season will be his last as a basketball player.

Dear Basketball,

From the moment
I started rolling my dad’s tube socks
And shooting imaginary
Game-winning shots
In the Great Western Forum
I knew one thing was real:

I fell in love with you.

A love so deep I gave you my all —
From my mind & body
To my spirit & soul.

As a six-year-old boy
Deeply in love with you
I never saw the end of the tunnel.
I only saw myself
Running out of one.

And so I ran.
I ran up and down every court
After every loose ball for you.
You asked for my hustle
I gave you my heart
Because it came with so much more.

I played through the sweat and hurt
Not because challenge called me
But because YOU called me.
I did everything for YOU
Because that’s what you do
When someone makes you feel as
Alive as you’ve made me feel.

You gave a six-year-old boy his Laker dream
And I’ll always love you for it.
But I can’t love you obsessively for much longer.
This season is all I have left to give.
My heart can take the pounding
My mind can handle the grind
But my body knows it’s time to say goodbye.

And that’s OK.
I’m ready to let you go.
I want you to know now
So we both can savor every moment we have left together.
The good and the bad.
We have given each other
All that we have.

And we both know, no matter what I do next
I’ll always be that kid
With the rolled up socks
Garbage can in the corner
:05 seconds on the clock
Ball in my hands.
5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … 1

Love you always,

Kobe

NBA Ledend Moses Malone Dead at 60 Years Old

Reports are coming in that famed NBA legend Moses Malone, has died. He was 60 years old.

Moses Malone, a three-time NBA MVP and one of the greatest players in professional basketball history, has died at 60, according to multiple reports.

Malone died in his sleep at a hotel in Virginia where he was set to play in a golf tournament, former teammate Calvin Murphy told Fox 26 in Houston.

Malone went straight to the ABA from high school in 1974 and starred in the startup league before becoming a legend when the ABA and NBA merged. He became a monster on the boards in Houston, leading the league with 17.6 rebounds per game in 1979 as he won his first MVP award. The team confirmed the loss of the Rocket legend on Twitter.

The following statement is from The Philadelphia 76ers.

“It is with a deep sense of sadness that the Sixers family mourns the sudden loss of Moses Malone. It is difficult to express what his contributions to this organization – both as a friend and player – have meant to us, the city of Philadelphia and his faithful fans. Moses holds a special place in our hearts and will forever be remembered as a genuine icon and pillar of the most storied era in the history of Philadelphia 76ers basketball. No one person has ever conveyed more with so few words — including three of the most iconic in this city’s history. His generosity, towering personality and incomparable sense of humor will truly be missed. We will keep his family in our thoughts and prayers and as we are once again reminded of the preciousness of life.”

Michael Jordon Joins The Billionaire’s Club

MSN reports that Michael Jordan joined the likes of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett in the swelling ranks of the world’s billionaires, according to the annual Forbes’ World’s Billionaires List for 2015.

The 29th annual list, released Monday, showed Jordan jumping on board at No. 1,741, well behind Gates, who remained at the top of the list (net worth $79.2 billion), followed by Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim Helu at No. 2 ($77.1 billion) and the Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffett ($72.7 billion), at No. 3. Microsoft founder Gates has topped the charts for 16 of the past 21 years, Forbes said.

A record 1,826 individuals made the list in 2015, up from 1,645 in 2014, with an average net worth of $3.86 billion, down a smidgen ($60 million) from last year. All told, the lucky few have a total net worth of $7.05 trillion, up from $6.4 trillion last year. The total wealth in the hands of about 1,800 people is roughly equivalent to double the GDP of Germany, Europe’s largest economy. The rising number of billionaires and their expanding assets underscores the growing global wealth gap, which Oxfam sayscould lead to the combined riches of the world’s wealthiest 1 percent overtaking that of the other 99 percent by next year.

A record 197 women made the list in 2015, up from 172 last year. And there were 290 newcomers, like MJ, also a record.

Reggie Miller – “Michael Jordan on his worst day is 10 times better than Kobe Bryant on his best day”

When Michael Jordan left the NBA, it took him 1072 games to accumulate 32,292 pionts. It took Kobe Bryant 1269 games and almost 800 more shots to finally reach Michael Jordan.

But hey, I’m not taking anything away from Kobe’s historic feat this week when he passed Michael Jordan to become number 3 on the NBA’s all time scoring list, that is a huge accomplishment worthy of praise. Don’t tell that to Reggie Miller though…

During his weekly appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, Reggie Miller ended the Jordan vs. Kobe debate – in his own mind.

When asked about Kobe Bryant passing Michael Jordan for third place on the all-time scoring list earlier this week, Miller said, “Michael Jordan on his worst day is 10 times better than Kobe Bryant on his best day. That’s not short-changing Kobe at at all, because he handed me my lunch pail, too, but I will take that Black Cat (Jordan) all day, any day over Kobe.”

But then there was this Reggie Miller/ Kobe Bryant fight back in 2002.

Kobe Bryant Passes Michael Jordan in Scoring

The historic moment happened in the second quarter on a fee throw against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 32,293 point put Bryant at number 3 on the NBA’s all time list. Michael Jordan dropped to the 4th spot with 32,292.

“I’m just honored to be here, man, to still be playing,” Bryant said. “I appreciate being able to play this long. Careers normally don’t last this long. I really appreciate the opportunity to still be out there playing and performing and doing what I do.”

Bryant still has some ways to go if he wants to unseat the number 1 spot currently held by, Abdul-Jabbar with 38,387, or the number 2, Karl Malone, with 36,928 in career NBA points.

LeBron James Has Something To Say To Racist Donald Sterling

Personally, I think all the black players in the NBA including the ones playing for the LA Clippers and their fans, should boycott the LA Clippers. If the racism expressed by Donald Sterling turns out to be true and he prefer blacks not come to his games, then shouldn’t that include the players?

I think it should. The way you hurt rich racists is in their wallet. A black boycott of the Clippers will not end Sterling’s racism, but it may starve the bastard for the duration.

Snoop Dogg said his piece yesterday, and based on the anger he displayed I’m pretty sure he’s done with the Clippers. LeBron James is speaking out now.

Before taking on the Charlotte Bobcats in Game 3 of Miami’s first-round playoff series, James said that if the report is true, then “there is no room for Donald Sterling in our league.”

“It’s unacceptable and as a commissioner in our league, they have to make a stand, and they have to be very aggressive with it. I don’t know what it’s going to be, but you just can’t have that in our league,” James said, via the Miami Herald. The four-time NBA MVP also said he even contemplated not playing. “I kind of wavered back and forth whether I would actually sit out. If our owner would come out and say the things that he said, I would really have to sit down with my teammates, talk to my family because at the end of the day, our family, and our teammates are way more important than that.”

James also wondered aloud what would happened to a player who “came out and said something of that stature” and called on NBA commissioner Adam Silver to “do something very fast and quickly before this really gets out of hand.”

LeBron was not alone. TNT analyst and former NBA star Charles Barkley said Silver”suspend [Sterling] and fine him immediately.” Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson described Sterling’s alleged remarks as a “black eye for the NBA.”
