A 12-year-old girl is set to be taken off life support Monday after she was shot in the head while riding a scooter in northern New Jersey on Saturday night, police said.
Genesis Rincon was critically injured in the 8:40 p.m. shooting in Paterson and would not pull through, her family said from her bedside, where they were saying their goodbyes Sunday.
“They’re hurting, they’re in mourning, but they’re outraged,” a spokesman for the family Rev. Della Fischer, told CBS News York. “This is senseless.”
Little Genesis was walking with two other kids on Rosa Parks Boulevard when she was cut down by a stray bullet, police said.
The trio was heading back to a family party after making a run to a nearby store, which was closed.
First of all, the pastor has a gun! I’m still having a hard time figuring out why a man of God, a follower of Christ, has a gun.
But I digress!
Donald Frazier noticed an intruder in his home. The 69-year-old pastor grabbed his gun and went to investigate. That is when he came in contact with 30-year-old Daniel Durham in his back yard. The two struggled and the stronger Durham took the gun away from Pastor Frazier. Frazier pleaded for his life but he was killed with his own weapon.
Frazier’s wife saw the struggle.
Another example of a good guy with a gun dead at the scene!
On this Independence Day they are celebrating the right to carry a gun anywhere they want in Georgia. Notice I don’t put the words “great state” in front of Georgia. That’s because it isn’t. Never really was.
Yes you can open carry your gun anywhere. Into churches, restaurants, schools, movie theaters and of course bars. As the rest of the civilized world works to bring down gun violence by instituting stricter gun laws the good ole US of A goes backwards in time. Back before the O.K. Corral. Which happened because some insane cowboys decided they didn’t want to hand in their weapons to Wyatt Earp while they were in Tombstone.
The insane cowboys don’t have to worry about that anymore because now they don’t have to hand in their weapons before they enter town. In fact they can get drunk and carry at the same time. Great country America! No not really!
But you have to wonder, I mean just think for a minute. Why now? Why weren’t these open carry laws passed by state legislatures before? Like…I dunno…when Bill Clinton was President? Or when George W. Bush was President? I mean what could the difference be now? I can’t quite put my finger on it….
Oh wait! Barack Obama, the black guy, is President! You know, the black dude who will take your guns away and give them to the Black Panthers. Am I dating myself? Oh OK..the Bloods and the Crips. Actually when those people carry weapons they are called criminals and thugs. Happy open carriers are no longer so happy. But when Billy Bob Joe Buck Billy Joe Bobby Bubba Joe carry their weapons into a Target (hopefully not anymore) or a Home Depot..well that is just them exercising their Second Amendment rights ain’t it?
Well there have already been problems of course. You see according to the new law, citizens OR police are NOT allowed to ask someone carrying a weapon to show their gun permit.
Let’s look closer at that. As of less than a year ago a police officer could stop a black person on the streets of NYC and frisk them with no questions asked. However in Georgia if someone is carrying a deadly weapon they cannot be asked to show their license to carry that weapon by a police officer. This is your America folks.
I have a question. How does someone know if the person carrying that gun is a good guy with a gun or a bad guy with a gun? Can anyone answer that? Wayne LaPierre maybe?
I guess you just have to wait until someone takes their gun out and shoots up a store or a church or a school. Then the good guys with the guns can shoot back, maybe killing a few innocent people after the bad guy has already had time to kill a few as well. So the bad guys with the guns have to be allowed to shoot first? Is that the way this works Georgia?
The law is called “guns everywhere.” It’s a response to the paranoia around a black President taking the guns away from white folk. That and the threat of him sending in drones and the military to kill them and in the process take away their freedoms!
Of course he hasn’t taken one gun away and there have been no laws to take guns away just laws to allow more guns.
None of this matters to the gun nuts. They are insane. They are certifiable in their anti black President paranoia fantasy land.
Here is a fantasy of mine. It would be like if we were in a real life Tarantino movie. All of the gun nuts are standing in a circle, they all take their guns out, point them at one another and systematically blow each other away. This happens around the state of Georgia and anywhere else there are “guns everywhere” laws.
The man wanted to commit a mass killing on the streets on New York. When he was arrested, he had a suicide note saying he wanted to “die in combat.”
In Texas, thanks to their Open Carry laws, this man would have been allowed to walk the streets with his assault rifles in full view, but New York is not the wild, wild west, and a potential mass carnage was avoided.
Victor Greer, 46, of Reading, Pa., was pulled over about 1:15 a.m. while driving the wrong way down a one-way street — he was headed north on Seventh Ave. near Grove St., police said.
Inside his vehicle, cops found a .9-mm pistol, a pump-action shotgun and a box of ammo in addition to the AR-15 rifles — a high-powered killing machine that has been used in some of America’s recent mass killings.
His suicide note read: “I want to die in combat, so I can go to heaven and meet God,” according to police.
The Tea Party and most social conservatives can sleep easily throughout the summer now. The two Supreme Court decisions rendered on Monday should delight the right and make the inaction across the street in the Capitol seems like a mere distraction. Like a fly buzzing around the collective government heads. The conservative revolution has been won, and all it took was five justices and very little money.
In the Hobby Lobby case, the court affirmed that not only are corporations people, they also have religious rights that can be exercised on health care issues. Yes, Justice Samuel Alito did say that he didn’t expect the floodgates to open on religious issues, but just look at what the Court’s decision on marriage equality did to even conservative states. Lower courts have run riot over anti-gay marriage laws to the tune of 17 states, many of which are in the most conservative areas of the country. Does Justice Alito really think that lower courts will demure when it comes to challenges on religious grounds? I don’t.
But just as this Court has affirmed the highest aspirations of the conservative movement, and, I’m sure, cemented the idea that Madison, Adams, Jay and Hamilton would have agreed with them, they are just doing what the liberal courts did in the 1950s through 1970s. Remember that the court found a right to privacy in the 1968 Griswold case, and used that right, which appears nowhere in the Constitution, to decide Roe v. Wade. The Warren court did the same with Brown, basing it on previous, smaller cases that affirmed what the justices believed to be correct decisions.
Alito, clearly the more articulate conservative compared to Antonin Scalia, who just wants to rant, also wrote the majority opinion in Harris v. Quinn, the day’s other liberal-bashing case. Here, he and the conservative majority said that some public employees do not have to pay union fees even if they don’t want to actually join the union that represents their field. For example, in New Jersey, public school teachers who don’t join the teacher’s association still have to pay 85% of the association fees because the association represents and negotiates for these teachers. Alito created a new category of worker, a partial public employee who works for both the government and a private person who hired them, and said that this type of employee was exempt from representation fees.
This decision is not major in the sense that it covered a great deal of people, but it does open up the gates to further challenges to unions and laws that require people to pay a representation fee. The next case could give the conservatives an opening to expand the definition to part-timers or support staff or, to be honest, any other public worker. Alito doesn’t like unions. It’s not just the law; it’s personal.
While President Obama and the right wing Republicans duke it out over language and politics, the Supreme Court is moving full steam ahead to craft a country that looks more like 1814 than 2014. The biggest problem, though, is that the former generation had Chielf Justice John Marshall to guide it. We get Alito, Roberts, Scalia and Thomas.
I guess Boehner and his Republican followers will add this to their lawsuit against the President. They’re not doing anything, so they’re upset that the President is. Today, our fearless leader ventured out on the White House lawn and told the world the hell with Republicans and their proposed lawsuit. If Congress fails to do what the constitution demands, then he will!
According to NRA’s Wayne LaPierre, more guns is the answer to all the shootings and gun crimes in this country. LaPierre will have you believe that criminals only attack places where there is a “no guns” policy in effect.
Well this story just put a bullet right in the heart of that theory – robberies at Gun ranges.
Officials say two suspects – Poteet and Chandler – were involved in two holdups at two different gun ranges — the first at Yury’s Gun Range in Philly’s West Poplar neighborhood and the second at the Delaware Valley Sports Center in the city’s Bustleton neighborhood.
The suspects waited in a parked car, a late model dark colored 2-door coupe, outside of the ranges until potential victims exited.
They robbed a 68-year-old man at gunpoint outside Yury’s at 544 N. Percy St. around 6:40 p.m. June 11, emptying the victim’s pockets and taking off with his backpack, which contained two .22 caliber handguns, according to authorities.
The following day, the pair went to Delaware Valley Sports Center at 101 Geiger Road and pulled off the same heist on an unsuspecting 67-year-old man, who was leaving the range with a friend around 8:40 p.m., according to police.
Officials say they demanded the two men hand over their cash and guns. Even though the victims were cooperating, Chandler fired a shot, striking the 67-year-old and critically wounding him, according to authorities.
The recent decision in California regarding teacher tenure is causing a great deal of anxiety in public education and in those states where teacher tenure still has some meaning. The ruling that tenure is unconstitutional because it denies students the right to a decent education is an interesting take on the subject, but it obscures the truth about how tenure works and why it’s still needed.
I’ve already visited the subject, but it’s worth repeating that tenure is NOT, I repeat, NOT a guarantee of lifetime employment, no matter how many times the know-nothing reformers repeat that it is. Earning tenure merely means that after four years in one district, a teacher must get a due process hearing if a school district wants to fire them. In New Jersey, the tenure laws were changed in 2012 to streamline the process so it didn’t take years and a lot of money in order to fire a teacher. Now, an arbitrator hears the case and generally rules within five months, and their decision is final.
Opponents of tenure, and these are the people who want to privatize all government functions in the United States except the military, say that tenure, and unions, protects bad teachers and makes it almost impossible to fire them. They also say that seniority rules that protect experienced educators at the expense of newer teachers when there are layoffs are outmoded and result in many young, energetic educators being let go before they can even begin their careers. I will admit that there are teachers in classrooms right now who do not belong there and who should not be teaching. There are also middling teachers for whom a younger replacement might mean an improvement in children’s education.
But blaming teacher’s unions is not the answer. No, the real reform in teacher retention, training and development rests with the administrators who run the school districts and schools. They are the ones who have the ultimate power to evaluate and make hiring decisions about their staffs. If these administrators keep teachers who should not be in the classroom, then they will be the ones responsible when those teachers do not turn out to be effective educators.
And who are these administrators? They are self-selected people who decide on their own to become principals and superintendents. There is no national or state organization that recognizes and encourages people who would be excellent administrators and sets them on a path to effective leadership. It’s the luck of the draw, and the deck is thinning in New Jersey due to Governor Christie’s support and signature on a law that limits pay for superintendents and other upper echelon school management. Yes, yes; I’ve heard the false argument that money doesn’t matter in education, at least where pay is concerned, because the false common wisdom is that teachers do not enter their field for the money. If you don’t pay people enough, though, then you don’t get good people to fill those jobs whose charge is to maintain and grow excellent teaching staffs.
It’s a terrible cycle and the California ruling will unfortunately reinforce the idea that if we could only fire incompetent teachers that our schools would improve. Of course, that would be true, but the problem is that schools wouldn’t only fire incompetent teachers. They would fire expensive teachers, union leadership members, teachers who cross administrators or don’t fit the boss’s vision of what a successful teacher looks like. It would also open the floodgates for purely nepotistic and corruptive practices that would make the schools worse. Facebook gave the Newark school system $100 million dollars; don’t you think that any corporation would love to make hiring and firing decisions?
There is far more to this reality than what the know-nothings are saying in response to the California ruling. Only time will tell if the political winds indeed do blow eastward in this country.
Why was I born in this country? Why couldn’t I be born in Canada? Or Great Britain? I ask myself these questions on an almost daily basis these days. This country hasn’t been great in a very long time. And we are undoubtedly slipping and sliding into total destruction. There is no doubt about it. None at all.
People from other countries, violent third world countries, have come here, to the United States in the past and have asked for asylum. Can I do that now? Can I go to Canada and beg them to let me become a citizen of their great country since my country has become a nation of extreme violence where at any time I can be killed by a right wing scum nut with a gun? Can I? I wanna know!
It happens every day now. Police officers are shot dead in cold blood while they get their lunch. They are shot dead by two lowlife scumbag Tea Party members. They are members of the Republican party as the Tea Party has not separated yet. Has not been told to separate by the “mainstream” Republicans. So therefore they are one and the same. These two individuals were at Bundy Ranch, they hated Obama and anyone on “food stamps.” Sounds very “mainstream” Republican to me.
They killed two police officers because they thought they were fighting the new “revolution.” They draped the officers bodies in “Don’t Tread On Me” flags. That’s a slogan we hear all of the time from right wingers, who believe that freedom is being poor with guns. So they can fight the awful police and government agencies who want to take their freedoms away. You can see how sick this is. How mentally fucked up these people are, they are psychotics who are running loose in our streets. Murdering our police officers and threatening to do the same to our politicians. Something else we can blame the most awful President of our times, Ronald Reagan for, letting the crazies out of the mental institutions and those crazies were allowed to procreate and now we deal with their evil spawn.
GLENN BECK MUST BE ARRESTED
We deal with them on our television sets. Glenn Beck should be arrested. He should be arrested now. In 2010 Beck, one of those crazies I spoke about, told his followers to “Shoot them in the head” regarding the “communists” who want a revolution. Now with the majority of Beck’s audience being psychopathic, that statement is bad enough. But they interpret “communists” in many ways. The police department is communist to them since it is a government run agency that they feel will try to take their guns and freedoms away. It is an agency they must fight. As Beck said, “Shoot them in the head…they might shoot you first.”
Beck is directly, not indirectly responsible for the deaths of those officers. What he said is not covered under freedom of speech as it was a direct order to incite violence and that’s exactly what happened. Beck must be arrested and indicted on conspiracy to commit murder. It must happen now. If not we are saying it is alright to kill police officers, or any other government worker, because they are “communists.” It will happen again if we don’t take action. Arrest Glenn Beck. Arrest him now!
OUR CHILDREN ARE DYING
Of course we also have to deal with these crazies in our schools. One school shooting after another. It has become so commonplace that it’s just a blip on our Twitter or Facebook feeds. The friends of the kids that are killed tweet their R.I.P’s daily. As though they are tweeting “Happy Graduation” or “Happy Birthday.” It is just expected now. Cry for a few minutes then move on. It’s sick and twisted and the NRA loving Republicans and gun nuts just shrug it off. Their solution is to arm all teachers and children with guns. Yes children. The gun nuts post pictures of their three and four year old kids holding guns. I seem them all the time. Those children should be taken away from them.
We are a sick, cancer ridden nation. Republicans want more guns, more anger, more hate. They want to replace their ultra right wing candidates with ultra ultra right wing candidates. Then replace them with ultra ultra ultra right wing candidates. They want to leave our soldiers behind, then call them and their families horrible names when the black President they hate so much brings them home.
They want a revolution that involves not paying taxes, killing cops and having our children afraid to go to school. As a friend pointed out, the police should notice that it is not the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters that kill them, it’s the right wing scum.
We are living in a crazy house that is called the United States of America.
A shooter at Troutdale’s Reynolds High School is dead, according to officials with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 100 law enforcement officers, tactical teams and medical personnel are in the process of evacuating students and staff.
No one else is known to have died in the shooting, though at least one teacher was reportedly injured.
Parents are being asked to reunite with their children at the Wood Village Fred Meyer at NE 223rd and NE Glisan.
Parents wait outside Reynolds High School following a reported shooting June 10, 2014. (KOIN 6)
Parents wait outside Reynolds High School following a reported shooting June 10, 2014. (KOIN 6)
Whether the shooter has been neutralized is still unknown, though law enforcement officers have concluded tactical efforts.
Parents began arriving at the school around 8:45 a.m., despite officers requesting they stay away for the moment. Officers are telling parents to meet with evacuated students at the Safeway on 242nd and Cherry Park.
A student still within the school tweeted just after 9 a.m. that while some students had been evacuated, “most” are still on lockdown.
One student told a parent the shooting began in the school’s gymnasium, though police have not been able to confirm specific details. Rumors of a shot teacher have also been unconfirmed.
So by now you’ve already heard of the shooting in Las Vegas, where two police officers were gunned down while eating lunch at a restaurant.
The shooting was apparently carried out by an anti-government, Teaparty/Militia married couple, who also took part in the Bundy Ranch standoff against the government just months ago. After killing the officers, they covered the bodies with what has now become the symbol flag of the Teaparty – The Gadsden flag.
Two good guys with guns dead!
But there was another “good guy with a gun” that got blown away by the couple. A 31-year-old Walmart customer, Joseph Wilcox, who was standing near the checkout area with a friend when the couple busted into the department store and ordered everyone to leave.
Wanting to stop the couple and minimize the potential bloodbath that was bound to happen, Wilcox – a legally licensed concealed carry Walmart patron – told his friend that he was going to stop shooter.
According to reports, Wilcox pulled out his gun and “got into position,” aiming for the male shooter. He unfortunately did not see the female shooter with her gun aimed at him. She shot Wilcox in the side. He immediately fell and died from his injury without shooting off any rounds.
The female shooter shot and killed her husband, then killed herself. All that remained afterwards were the bodies of the three “good guys with guns,” the bodies of the two bad guys with guns, and of course, the guns. Five dead bodies… and the guns!
Republicans and the NRA continue to argue that “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” I wonder which of the “people” the couple used to bludgeon the others to death…!
So this is what the civilized United States of America has come to.
Instead of doing something simple to curb gun violence, like issuing background checks to act as a deterrent for those with bad intentions, you know, make it harder for lunatics to buy a gun. We are instead, preparing our kids to be sitting ducks in schools with bullet proof blankets.
An Oklahoma company – ProTecht – has developed the blanket made from bullet proof material hopeful that schools would pay the $1000 price tag for the blanket.
The blanket they say, would help protect the child from falling debris in the event of certain natural disasters, but would also help when the mass murderer with his Second Amendment Semiautomatic comes knocking at their classroom door. The only requirement is that the nice murderer stands outside the classroom and wait until all the children are fully covered before opening fire.
And if that’s not good enough news for you, consider this: someone is about to make a lot of money with their bullet proof blankets.
Capitalism at work here folks, there is a need and the market steps forward to address that need!
Chalk up another victory for the NRA and the Republican party.
