Republican Rep.-elect Luke Letlow Dies from Coronavirus

Rep.-elect Luke Letlow (R-La.) has died from the coronavirus, multiple sources confirmed Tuesday evening. He was 41.

Letlow, who announced on Dec. 18 that he tested positive for Covid-19, had been in the intensive care unit at Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport.

“The family appreciates the numerous prayers and support over the past days but asks for privacy during this difficult and unexpected time,” the family said in a statement that was first reported by the Monroe News-Star. “A statement from the family along with funeral arrangements will be announced at a later time.”

Letlow, who served as chief of staff to former Rep. Ralph Abraham (R-La.) before being elected to fill that seat, was supposed to be sworn into Congress on Sunday.

Trump Caves In, Signs $600 Stimulus Package

Donald Trump signed into law a major coronavirus stimulus package along with an annual spending bill, avoiding a government shutdown before a Monday night deadline, Politico reports.

Trump has railed against the$900 billion coronavirus relief bill and a $1.4 trillion government funding bill since Congress approved it, demanding $2,000 checks and cutting out foreign aid. But on Sunday evening after days of being lobbied by allies, Trump decided to sign the bill and not leave office amid a maelstrom of expired benefits and a government shutdown.

Dominion Employee Sues Trump Campaign Claiming Defamation

A top employee of Dominion Voting Systems, who has gone into hiding after becoming the subject of conspiracy theories on the right since the election, is suing the Trump campaign, a number of campaign surrogates and pro-Trump media outlets, alleging defamation.

Eric Coomer, director of product strategy and security for the Denver-based company, has been baselessly accused of using his position to mastermind a high-tech plot to steal the election for President-elect Joe Biden. Biden’s victory has been certified in the states by officials of both parties with no evidence of widespread fraud or irregularities.

Coomer’s suit, filed Tuesday in Colorado state district court in Denver, accuses those responsible of spreading the falsehoods of intentional infliction of emotional distress and civil conspiracy.

Mitch McDonnell Finally Acknowledges Joe Biden is President-Elect

It should be noted that Russian president Vladimir Putin, congratulated Joe Biden on his win before the Republican Senate Leader mustered up the courage to do so.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell congratulated Democrat Joe Biden on Tuesday, calling him the president-elect and saying the Electoral College “has spoken.”

The Republican leader’s statement delivered in a speech on the Senate floor ends weeks of silence over President Donald Trump’s defeat. It comes after electors met Monday and affirmed Biden’s election win.

“Many of us had hoped the presidential election would yield a different result,” McConnell said. “But our system of government has the processes to determine who will be sworn in on Jan. 20. The Electoral College has spoken.”

President Snowflake

All you need to know about Donald Trump has been on display since the 2020 presidential election. Yes, I know the previous three years plus have been pretty bad, but he’s gone above himself since November. It’s obvious he doesn’t understand how our elections worked this year. Come on, he was winning in the PM, but lost in the AM.

And I’m not saying that this is some political ploy by a savvy operator who’s just trying to rile up his supporters. It’s clear he’s just oblivious to how our system works, how votes are counted, how democracy operates, why even Republican politicians don’t support his lawsuits, and, most importantly, to the fact that he’s just not that popular. Polls consistently put his approval ratings under 50% for almost every day of his presidency. He won 46% of the vote in 2016 and 47% in 2020. So much has been made of the fact that he’s won 74 million votes so far.

Joe Biden’s won 81 million. He wins.

Even more than that, though, is Trump’s sense that all Republicans and conservative judges must be on his side rather than on the side of the Constitution. This is obviously the most dangerous aspect of his actions. It’s one thing to be transnational about policy, it’s quite another to fervently believe that since you appointed a judge, that judge will side with you simply because you…appointed them. I was heartened when the Supreme Court ruled rather curtly that Texas had no standing or evidence to prove anything other than the president thinks he’s entitled to win. I was also not surprised that the two justices who said the case could go forward were Alito and Thomas. They’ve been out of the mainstream for as long as they’ve been on the court.

Then there are the Republican legislators and governors who backed the president. I understand party unity and making sure you win your next election, but supporting what is essentially a coup by trying to enable state legislatures to appoint Trump electors despite having no evidence of fraud or chicanery, is madness. And dangerous.

If you need to upend an election in order to sate the Republican base, then the problem is the base and all people who believe that Republicans and Democrats, legislators and governors, election workers, all media outlets except the ones you determine to be truthful, technology companies, foreign agents, and government workers worked night and day to deny Donald Trump what he, in fact, lost. The election. The popular vote. Enough states for Joe Biden to win 306 electoral votes.

I am still hoping that the president will invite Joe Biden to the White House sometime next week after the Electoral College makes Biden’s win official, but of course, I would not be surprised if it didn’t happen. Most likely, Donald Trump will make a graceless exit, not attend the Inauguration, and continue to complain endlessly about how unfairly he was treated. As the ultimate snowflake, who couldn’t handle the judgment of the people, he will go down in history as just another impeached one-term president. Let’s move on to brighter days.

Supreme Court Rules Against Trump… Again

The Supreme Court refused Friday to let Texas challenge the election results in four battleground states critical to President Donald Trump’s defeat at the polls last month, likely sealing his political fate.

“Texas has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another state conducts its elections,” the court said in a brief order. It dismissed all other related claims as moot.

The justices’ action clears the way for electors to convene in 50 states and the District of Columbia Monday and all but confirm that President-elect Joe Biden will be the nation’s 46th president.

The Dictator In The White House

No, you are not in North Korea and man in the White House is Donald Trump, not a dictator. But if you listen to Donald Trump and watch his actions over the last few weeks, you would think we are living in North Korea, and you would think the man in the White House is Kim Jong-un.

In his latest brazen attempt at dictatorship, Donald Trump called Georgia’s Republican governor on Saturday and ask the governor to overthrow the election results in Georgia. Trump asked the governor to insert electors that will declare him the winner.

Hours before he was scheduled to hold a rally in Georgia on behalf of the state’s two GOP senators, Trump pressed Kemp to call a special session of the state legislature for lawmakers to override the results and appoint electors who would back the president at the electoral college, according to a person familiar with the conversation who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the private call.

Trump also asked the governor to demand an audit of signatures on mail ballots, something Kemp has previously noted he has no power to do. Kemp declined the president’s entreaty, according to the person.

Georgia Republican to Trump – “Stop inspiring people to commit potential acts of violence”

Gabriel Sterling, an election official in Georgia and a Republican, begged Donald Trump to cut the crop before someone gets hurt or even killed.

“It has to stop,” said Mr. Sterling, a Republican. “Mr. President, you have not condemned this language or these actions. This has to stop. We need you to step up, and if you’re going to take a position of leadership, show some.”

Mr. Sterling, a wonkish former city councilman in the Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs, has taken on a starring role as Georgia’s voting system implementation manager while the president continues to call the election “rigged” and urge for the results to be nullified.

“Mr. President, it looks like you likely lost the state of Georgia,” Mr. Sterling said on Tuesday. “We’re investigating. There’s always a possibility, I get it, you have the right to go to the courts. What you don’t have is the ability to — and you need to step up and say this — is stop inspiring people to commit potential acts of violence. Someone’s going to get hurt. Someone’s going to get shot.
