8 Facts You Didn’t Know About Dreams

Dreams reveal our subconscious, sometimes they can be completely random and they don’t make sense, on average humans tend to have around 3 to 7 dreams a night, we dream around 2 to 3 hours in a whole night and the most interesting thing is that a 90% of the dream is lost the first minute we wake up, also if you have a partner who snores and keeps you up all night, he or she mustn’t be dreaming much, since its impossible to dream while snoring. These are just some facts and statistics about the science of dreaming,

1- There are no strangers in our dreams

The people we see in our dreams are persons who we have met or seen sometime before, but we cant remember, It could be someone who didn’t make an impact in our life but we could’ve seen that face at some point in our life. People who we meet along life become our history of characters that remains in our subconscious and they are used in your dreams.

2- REM sleep disorder

This is the stage of sleep during which dreaming occurs, there is a paralysis of the voluntary muscles and in a bad dream if we wake up it will take a few minutes for our muscles to respond.

3- Symbolism and Emotions

The most common emotion experienced in dreams is anxiety. Also the negative emotions in dreams are more common than positive ones, every dream is symbolic, even the most random one has a lot of symbolism behind it, symbolism that represent our lives who we feel think, etc.

4- Lucid dreams

They represent an alternate reality, it means you are aware that you are dreaming even though you are still asleep, best part about these dreams, you can actually control them.

5- Erotic dreams

These are common and lead to orgasms in both cases men and women.

-Men get erections during REM sleep, whether or not the man is having an erotic dream

-Women get their genitals engorged and lubricated during an erotic dream.

6- Male and female dreams

-Men: they dream more about strangers, violence, sexual activity, achievement, and outdoor events.

-Women: tend to have slightly longer dreams that feature more characters, women have more nightmares than men also are more likely to dream about their children, family or household activities.

7- Precognitive dreams

These are dreams that give you the sensation of predicting the future, but what they actually do is they express our innermost hopes and fears based on subconscious information that we may or may not be repressing.

8- Violent dreams

These dreams are known for causing people to act out their dreams, sometimes with violent actions like kicks and screams. There have been studies made that show indicate that violent dreams may be an early sign of some brain disorders it also includes Parkinson’s disease and dementia.

Five Alternative Premises for “The Bridge”

Andrew Weber blogs about TV at  The Drug of the Nation. Follow him on Twitter and Facebook.

The Bridge, which debuted on FX last night, is about a Mexican detective and an American detective working together to solve the mystery behind a pair of bodies left on the border between El Paso and Juarez.  However, upon hearing the show’s title, a couple of far superior premises sprang to mind.  Here’s five of them:

1.  The Brooklyn Bridge is New York’s most famous bridge.  Here’s the amazing story behind the people who built what was then the longest suspension bridge in the world upon its completion in 1883.  Starting with the untimely death of original architect John Augustus Roebling, the show follows his son, Washington Roebling, who had to do his work from afar after he came down with depression sickness, and Washington’s remarkable wife, Emily Warren Roebling who learned about bridge building on the fly as she acted as a crucial link between the sick Washington and engineers on the site.

2.  The Bridge is a period drama centered around the group of German expressionist artists known as Die Brücke (“The Bridge” in German), including  Fritz Bleyl, Erich Heckel,Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Emil Nolde who came together in Dresden in the early 1900s.  The group of artists dreamed of taking on the current establishment by reviving older artistic traditions, publishing in a statement, “We call all young people together, and as young people, who carry the future in us, we want to wrest freedom for our actions and our lives from the older, comfortably established forces.”  Follow the movement at their studio, where the charismatic and ultra-talented artists flouted social conventions at the same time they were flouting artistic ones.

3.  The Bridge is the in-depth story of some of the megasupporters of Chelsea football, centered on the characters’ time together in the Matthew Harding Stand of Chelsea’s home stadium, Stamford Bridge.  The show focuses on lives of a small cadre of otherwise relatively mild-mannered supporters as they eagerly look to make it through the week to spend their time cheering all out for their beloved Blues and bonding with one another after every Chelsea goal.   The Bridge tells the story of how their obsession with Chelsea both brings their lives completely together for the better while sometimes almost causing them to fall apart.

4.  New York’s Queensbridge is the largest public housing works in North America, with almost 7,000 people residing there.  The Bridge revolves around a few residents of these projects, detailing the constant everyday struggles and little victories, the families making it work everyday in the light of the drug trade, and the young people hoping to get out, some using music as their gateway.  Queensbridge’s most famous ex-resident Nas narrates.

5.  The Bridge begins with a handful of characters making their way in the go-go lifestyle of the late ’80s on Long Island, and is prominently soundtracked by Billy Joel tunes from the album of the same name.  In each episode, we see, in addition, stories about the same characters at different points in time set to contemporaneous Joel music.  The segmented time periods allow for complex storytelling, with each time featuring its own stories, which are cleverly interrelated over the course of a season with the stories from the other eras.  The Billy Joel soundtrack provides a musical connection that both links together the different time periods, while making clear the specific times in which each story is taking place.

Boston Bombing Suspect In Court – Pleads Not Guilty

His arm in a cast and his face swollen, a blase-looking Dzhokhar Tsarnaev pleaded not guilty Wednesday in the Boston Marathon bombing in a seven-minute proceeding that marked his first public appearance since his capture in mid-April.

As victims of the bombing looked on, Tsarnaev, 19, gave a small, lopsided smile to his sisters upon arriving in the courtroom. He appeared to have a jaw injury and there was swelling around his left eye and cheek.

Then, after he leaned in toward a microphone and said, “Not guilty” over and over in a Russian accent, he was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs, making a kissing gesture toward his family with his lips. His sister sobbed loudly, resting her head on a woman seated next to her.
Tsarnaev faces 30 federal charges, including using a weapon of mass destruction to kill, and could get the death penalty if prosecutors choose to pursue it.

A Flamboyant Gay Male Feminist’s Daily Battle Against Misogyny

Branden Lee is a blogger, screenwriter, producer, and actor, currently residing in Boston, MA. Follow Branden on Twitter and Tumblr.

I’ve never been much of a political person, but there are two main issues that I really care about. Gay marriage and abortion. As a gay man, I look forward to being able to fall in love and solidify my romance by one day throwing a huge lavish extravagant wedding worthy of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.

With DOMA finally being ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, gay marriages are finally equal to heterosexual marriages in the eyes of the law. Before DOMA was declared unconstitutional I didn’t really think there was a point in getting married if I was going to be denied the benefits of marriage. I’m so thankful to be living in a time when these strides for gay people are occurring, and since I’m only 22, so many more are bound to come before I finally do find the man I’d want to spend the rest of my life with. Plus with gays getting all the benefits of marriage now, the playing field is opened for all the gay gold-diggers out there.

Abortion has always been something I’ve been passionate about. Perhaps it’s the feminist in me. Women have always been a huge part of my life. My mother and grandmother were my biggest influences growing up. Most of my closest friends are women. Female musicians, actresses, comedians are my favorites. I always hate when a man declares that “women aren’t funny”. Personally I don’t find any straight white male comedians to be hilarious. Though we do gravitate most towards comedy that we relate to, and I find it easier to relate to women then straight men. Female villains that usually destroy and thwart the male characters are always my favorites in TV and movies. My favorite characters on Game of Thrones are Cersei, Melisandre, and Margaery to put things into perspective.

Since I love seeing women destroy men so much, I hate when male lawmakers constantly attempt to belittle and thwart women’s rights. Which is why I care so much about abortion. No one should be forced to endure a pregnancy to give birth to a child that they don’t want. If someone doesn’t want to have a baby, that’s their decision and their right to do whatever they want with their fertilized egg.  Their body, their choice. Women earned their fundamental right to have control of their bodies long ago, so why is abortion still constantly on the battleground for lawmakers?

I do find it shocking though that there are gay men that don’t support a women’s right to choose. While browsing OkCupid I like to browse the questions answered by guys I’ve rated highly based on their attractiveness. I want to see if I’ll still find them attractive based on their personalities and stances on certain issues. Granted their viewpoints may have changed, depending on how long ago they even answered the questions.  Also it is only OkCupid so I shouldn’t take it that seriously, but it’s still fun to check out. I often see guys would rather date/procreate with someone of the same race. As a non-white gay who almost exclusively only dates interracially, it’s disappointing to read this, but I’ve come to terms with the prevalence of sexual racism in the gay community. I find it more shocking to see profiles where guys say they don’t believe women should ever be able to terminate their pregnancies. I find it so unfathomable that a gay man would be anti-abortion. Though I’m sure many of these conservative anti-gay/anti-abortion lawmakers are secretly gay, it’s still revolting to see openly gay men believing that women shouldn’t have their own right to choose.

Due to my lack of uterus I’ll never have to worry about a future boyfriend and I having to make a decision about terminating our unwanted gestation, but I don’t think I could ever date a guy that is against abortion. One of my very best friend’s has had an abortion in the past. Ironically she’s my only religious friend and used to say she was anti-choice. Some people really don’t know their own viewpoints until the issue actually personally affects them.

Though it shouldn’t surprise me that there are gay men that don’t value the rights of women, since misogyny runs as rampantly in the gay community as racism. As a makeup-loving, Forever 21 shopping, diva worshipping, flamboyant gay man, I’m constantly bombarded with effemephobia/misogyny.  Effemephobia is the hatred/prejudice against feminine gay men for those unaware. There are countless guys that outwardly express their distaste and dislike of feminine gay men all over their online dating profiles, just as there are countless men that expresses their racism. It’s racist to say that you’re not attracted to certain races, like it’s misogynist to say you’re not attracted to feminine men.

Everyone has their own preference, but preferences that discriminate against people based on their ethnicity and skin color developed from racism. Discriminating against femininity develops from believing that women are the lesser sex, weak, and anything feminine is not to be desired. Granted as gay men we aren’t attracted to women, but if a guy doesn’t have a vagina or identify as a woman, then he’s not a woman. The worst thing to see is gay men that say “I like men, so act like one.” or “If I wanted a girl, I’d date one.”. Seeing that I have no vagina and don’t identify as a girl, despite always being mistaken as one when I talk on the phone with strangers, I’m not a woman. I did once have two guys cancel dates with me in one day because they hated my girly voice. These ignorant hateful gender normative statements are invalid.

Another aspect of the girly gay guy struggle is guys finding it so repulsive that some boys enjoy wearing makeup. I find it comical how often guys get so turned off when I send them a picture of me wearing makeup. I only wear makeup when I go clubbing, which is usually less than once a week occurrence. Wearing makeup for 3-4 hours less than once a week rendering me undateable is ridiculous. Though if a guy believes in such archaic rules of gender expression, they aren’t someone I’d want to be with anyway.

In my experience “straight” but curious boys, bisexual guys, and tranny chasers tend to be the most appreciative of feminine gay men. Though it’s only natural that men that are also attracted to women, would be attracted to feminine features in men. How ironic that the most passably “straight” men in the gay spectrum, desire the most marginalized and least passably “straight” that are often ostracized by the rest of the gay community.

Though I am a man, ladies I do know the struggle. I very much know how it feels to be treated as a second class citizen because I’m a fem in a very pro-butch patriarchal society. I know how it feels to go out in a skimpy outfit and feel that my safety is threatened by random men on the subway or street molesting me with their eyes. I know the struggle of walking home alone in the middle of the night and having some creepy strange man try to follow me with his car and beep his horn at me and expected me to jump inside because he assumed I was a woman, luckily when he realized I wasn’t he quickly sped off. I’ve experienced what it feels like to have a man feel entitled to your body simply because he bought you dinner. I know what it feels like to worry that I’ll never be successful in my desired career all because I’m not a cisgender male.

We as gay men need women to survive. Whether it’s our friends, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, teachers, co-workers, etc… Although it’s shameful and perplexing that there are gay men out there that don’t support women’s reproductive rights, there are luckily many gay men that do. Without women there would be no gay marriage. Roe vs. Wade wasn’t the be all end all decision on abortion, and DOMA will most likely not be the be all end all of gay marriage rights.

As lawmakers constantly try to thwart progress it’s important to be actively aware and united, as women and gay men, to help protect each other’s rights. If they come for one, they’ll come for the other next, or even simultaneously.

Despite the Republican Block Party, The Deficit is Falling

The day President Obama stepped into office he inherited a record projected $1.2 trillion deficit that turned out to be $1.4 trillion by the end of fiscal year 2009. This year the projected deficit is $759 billion, down from a projected $973 billion.

That means the deficit of the president’s first year of his second term is about 45% smaller than the deficit of his first year in office. It’s a bit shy of his promise to reduce the deficit in half by the end of his first term. But he made that promise before anyone had any idea just how bad the financial crisis of 2008 really was.

At least one economist suggests that we have a 1 in 3 shot of ending up with a budget surplus in the next few years.

Of course, this rapid deficit reduction is the result of the only way that long-term deficit reduction has ever been achieved: tax increases on the rich and job creation.

We’ve been in a slow but steady economic recovery for years. More than a million jobs were created int he first half of this year.

Can you imagine how quickly Republicans would turn Mt. Rushmore into Mt. Romney if he’d cut the deficit by $214 billion and created a million jobs?

So how are Republicans reacting to the news of Obama’s epic feat of fiscal conservatism? Threatening to blow up the global economy by defaulting on our debt if the president won’t cut Social Security, a program that’s completely solvent until 2033.

The Ear You Put your Phone up to May Say Something about the Person You’re Talking With?

This has to do with right vs. left brain theories, in fact the right and left ears process sound differently, the left hemisphere of the brain dominates over the right in processing different sounds, this actually dominates in processing rapidly changing sounds such as in speech and words, and is important to take into consideration that the left side of the brain is the analytical part of the brain that’s why it is stimulated in processing the information more than the right ear. Same for the right ear, which dominates in processing prolonged tones such as in music and it, is also known as the creative side.

As for the phone calls, generally if you are a caring person you will put the phone to the right ear.  Also, generally, when someone gets a call from someone they care about, they will put the phone to the right ear more frequently than the left.

Is Kokopelli Gym Trying to Capitalize From The George Zimmerman Trial?

So George Zimmerman was called “Physically soft” by his trainer. Adam Pollock, owner of Kokopelli Gym, even went on to call Zimmerman “non athletic.” Pollock’s testimony earlier this week was part of the defence’s efforts to say that Trayvon Martin was the aggressor and Zimmerman had no choice but to use his gun and take Trayvon’s life.

Of course, if Zimmerman had listened to authorities when they told him not to follow Trayvon, there would be no need for Pollock’s testimony calling Zimmerman “non athletic”, there would be no need for a Zimmerman trial and Trayvon Martin would still be alive today.

And there would be no need for Pollock to apparently try and profit from his testimony and Trayvon’s death. In a shocking ad, the owner of the gym where Zimmerman trained put up a “Zimmerman” page on his website, promising to send information on Zimmerman’s training to anyone who enter their name and email address in his website’s database.

Data collection in itself is one way websites make money. Data brokers are companies that buy this data from other sources, including websites, and use this data to target potential consumers. Pollock’s database has the potential to grow tremendously, because of the high publicity case his testimony is now a part of.

Below is a screenshot of Pollock’s request for your data.

Magna Carta Holy Grail Review

I’m not much of a fan of Jay Z so I didn’t start listening to his newest album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, with some sky-high expectations but, I know what he’s capable with his music so I expected something that I’d love to put on my iPod. I was quickly reminded why I’m not much of a fan.

The first song Holy Grail pretty much sets the bar for this album, songs with sick beats, good intros, and good/decent hooks. Jay Z’s lyrics are another story; his lyrics seem uninspired, his flow seems off, and no matter who he has with him in his songs (Justin Timberlake, Rick Ross, Beyonce, or Frank Ocean) the songs just fail to want me hit replay. The entire album seems less of a big money album and more like a quickly done mixtape.

It seems as if Jay Z, who can surround him with the best in the music industry, just sat down and said “this is good enough”. Perhaps Jay Z should really retire from music and focus fully on his business ventures, those seem like something he won’t be happy just at “good enough”
