A judge in Tennessee changed a 7-month-old boy’s name to Martin from Messiah, saying the religious name was earned by one person and “that one person is Jesus Christ.”
Child Support Magistrate Lu Ann Ballew ordered the name change last week, according to WBIR-TV (http://on.wbir.com/1cDOeTY). The boy’s parents were in court because they could not agree on the child’s last name, but when the judge heard the boy’s first name, she ordered it changed, too.

Kids, and even some adults, could be so mean. They think it’s all done in fun, but the longterm effects are often devastating.
Right or wrong, the judge is saving this child a childhood of pain and grief by not allowing the name “Messiah”. It’s hard enough to get through childhood and adolescence without being saddled with such a name.
I should know, my nick-name rhymes with so many things that it caused me problems all my childhood and adolescence. My mother wanted me to be called by a shortened version of my nick-name, but this was never to be until I was a grown man.
