The followers of Dr. Phil’s Twitter account had some rather harsh words for the Talk Show host. Seems Mr. Phil, or someone with access to his Twitter account, tweeted out this question to his 1.2 million followers:
The hashtag #teensaccused indicates that Dr. Phil will be doing a future show on the topic and was trying to solicit opinions from the public. But the response the show got from their followers caused Dr. Phil to delete the tweet and issue an apology.
Here’s some of the responses:
– @DrPhil The answer is No, Never you jackass. And then you kick whoever asked you in the throat. #teensaccused
– Are you “asking for a friend”? RT @DrPhil: If a girl is drunk, is it OK to have sex with her? Reply yes or no to @drphil #teensaccused
– Dr Oz was saving lives today and Dr. Phil is trying to hook up with drunk girls where is @oprah she needs to have an emergency team meeting
Here’s part of the apology Dr. Phil issued today:
“This Tweet was intended to evoke discussion leading into a very serious show topic based upon a recent news story, hence the #teensaccused label. It was a poll question, not a statement or a joke. As he has maintained over many years, Dr. Phil believes that the position of those incapacitated in any fashion; be it drugs, alcohol, age or mental illness can not and do not have the capacity to give their consent to anything, especially sex, which could have life changing repercussions. This was a research post in preparation for a show, not a personal post and Dr. Phil deleted it the second he saw it. It was clearly ill-advised. We sincerely apologize that it suggested anything other than what was intended, data gathering. As you can imagine, Dr. Phil is very upset that this happened.”
That last tweet says it all. Dr. Oz was at the scene of a British tourist who lost her foot when a taxi cab jumped the curb and ran over her. Oz was seen in pictures helping the tourist. With Dr. Phil asking these dumb questions, “where is Oprah” indeed?
