A Fox News medical expert on Tuesday argued that President Barack Obama’s administration was wrong to force gender equality for health insurance rates because men “only have the prostate,” while women “have the breasts, they have the ovaries.”
“Look, it’s not bias, I’m not saying this as a man,” Fox News Medical A-Team contributor Dr. David Samadi told the hosts of Fox & Friends. “They go through a lot of preventive screenings, they give birth, they have the whole mammogram, the Pap smear. Guys, we don’t like to go to doctors, right? Seventy percent of health care decisions are made by women. In my own practice, I see it’s the women who bring the guys, who say, go get screened.”
“Yeah, but shouldn’t that earn us a discount?” Fox News host Gretchen Carlson interrupted. “Basic fact that we are responsible for getting our men to come to the doctor? And what about the fact that women, because they do all this preventative care, maybe their health issues end up costing less than men’s, who don’t go to the doctor until it’s a crisis and a big deal.”
“Yes, that’s a good point, except that, you know, women live longer,” Samadi asserted. “Women live until age 81 and men live only until 76. So, we’re using the health care system much less.”
“In this case, it’s not equal,” co-host Brian Kilmeade agreed. “You have a better time on Earth than we do, you’re here a lot more. You have six years of heaven, where you just have no men around.”
Carlson pointed out that women were blamed for maternity costs, “but men and women have babies together.”
“I agree with you that it’s a shared responsibility,” Samadi said. “But just the way the system are — in my field, we only have the prostate. Women have the breasts, they have the ovaries, they have the uterus. They get checked in every part.”
George Zimmerman is standing his ground — and he wants Florida taxpayers to reimburse him for a large chunk of his legal expenses.
The neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted of second-degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin is asking the Sunshine State to cover $200,000 to $300,000 for the cost of expert witnesses, travel, depositions and photocopies, the Orlando Sentinel reported Monday.
That tab also includes the cost of a video the defense used during closing arguments that shows the unarmed black teenager punching Zimmerman.
Defense attorney Mark O’Mara told the paper that a motion is “in the works” to ask a judge to approve the payments.
Because the 29-year-old watchman was found not guilty during a five-week trial last month, state law requires Florida to pay all of his legal fees — except for the price tag of his lawyer.
That comes on top of the roughly $900,000 that public agencies already spent on Zimmerman’s behalf during the much-hyped court case, which prompted demonstrations all over the country.
Drugs and alcohol have Mike Tyson up against the ropes as the former heavyweight champion fights for his life against addiction.
Tyson made the startling revelations about his substance abuse problems while plugging the first fight card under his Iron Mike Productions promoting venture.
“I’m on the verge of dying because I’m a vicious alcoholic,” Tyson told reporters at the Turning Stone Resort in New York, where Argenis Mendez retained his IBF junior lightweight title after battling to a 12-round draw with challenger Arash Usmanee.
Friday night’s main event, however, was overshadowed by Tyson’s press conference-turned-confessional from earlier in the day.
“I haven’t drank or took drugs in six days, and for me that’s a miracle. I’ve been lying to everybody else that think I was sober, but I’m not.
“This is my sixth day. I’m never gonna use again,” a choked up Tyson told the media, who gave him a standing ovation.
Tyson’s emotional testimonial came after discussing his attempts to reconcile with former trainer Teddy Atlas, who was working the fight as an announcer for ESPN. Tyson and Atlas had a well-documented falling-out in the early ’80s that reportedly included Atlas pulling a gun on the then 15-year-old Tyson after Mike he allegedly attacked a young girl who was related to Atlas’ wife
Papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, stylist Michael Raphael says the Canadian heartthrob stiffed him on over $70,000 in fees and expenses.
Michael Raphael, the owner of the high-end boutique Rest Store on Mulberry Street, said Drake was a regular at his appointment only storefront, which features custom jewelry, clothing and artwork, and they “spoke at length about these creations.”
Raphael said he “occasionally” did consulting work for the singer, and in August of last year, was offered a $39,553 gig to help the “Take Care” singer with his “brand direction” and look, the filings say.
He traveled to Los Angeles to help him with his look for his “F—ing Problems” video, and did “wardrobe styling” for his appearance at the American Music Awards this past November.
When Drake decided he wanted to wear a certain “custom-designed chain and pendant” at the show, Raphael had one of his employees fly it in from New York to hand deliver it because “time was of the essence,” the court papers say.
And because Drake, whose full name is Aubrey Drake Graham, was spending large amounts of time in his native Canada, Raphael was told to rent an apartment in Toronto – and that he’d be paid back for the expense.
He was also assured he’d be paid back for the thousands of dollars of purchases he made for Drake at Foot Locker, Nike, and J. Crew, the suit says.
Part of me cried a little today. Today marks the retirement of Tracy McGrady, this month marked the retirement of Allen Iverson as well. Goodbye Tracy McGrady. Goodbye Allen Iverson
Allen Iverson aka “The Answer”, a former first round pick for the Philadelphia 76ers, lived up to his high draft pick. Allen is historically one of the 76ers greatest players to ever wear their uniform, add to that his ROTY (Rookie of the Year) award, a NBA MVP, multiple:scoring titles, All Star selections and NBA First Team selections, lastly a 2001 Finals appearance; A.I has quite a nice resume for any NBA player.
“The Answer” will probably be best remembered for his “practice” rant that signaled his end in a 76ers uniform. Past that rant though, he’ll be remembered for his killer cross over, his one handed put back dunk, and his amazing Game 1 Finals performance in 2001.
Allen’s legacy will be an interesting one. He revolutionized the Point Guard position, proved a little guy can hang with the best, and brought about a cultural revolution in the NBA (tattoos, corn rows, oversized jerseys); on the flip side though he will be remembered for being selfish, a cancer to teams, and a coach killer.
Tracy McGrady aka T Mac was a former 9th round draft pick for the Toronto Raptors. He may have played up to his superstar potential but never achieved the success others did. T Mac was a prolific scorer and earned multiple scoring titles, All Star selections and NBA First Team selections as well; sadly T Mac never took his own team to the Finals, let alone past the first round of the playoffs.
T Mac will be best remembered for the classic performance he put on against the Spurs where he scored 13 points in 35 seconds! McGrady will also be remembered for his amazing dunks and his offensive dominance.
Tracy McGrady’s legacy is also an interesting one. He had the superstar potential to be one of the best, in his prime years he easily was the best. Sadly due to injuries he never was able to win it all.
This month marks the end of two of the great players in the NBA. While these two men have no rings between the two, their names are still talked about today and I will tell my kids about Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady. I hope to see both in the NBA Hall Of Fame as soon as they’re eligible.
Charity groups in Raleigh, North Carolina are criticizing local police over what they call a sudden enforcement of a local ordinance prohibiting them from feeding the homeless.
“The police are caught up in a system,” Rev. Hugh Hollowell told WRAL-TV on Sunday. “The police work for the mayor and the City Council, who is ultimately responsible to the developers who spend lots and lots of money to revitalize downtown.”
Hollowell attracted attention to the police’s activities on Saturday after his group, Love Wins Ministries, was barred from its weekly food distribution at a local park, Moore Square, for the first time in six years.
“No representative from the Raleigh Police Department was willing to tell us which ordinance we were breaking, or why, after six years and countless friendly and cooperative encounters with the Department, they are now preventing us from feeding hungry people,” Hollowell wrote on the group’s website. “When I asked the officer why, he said that he was not going to debate me. ‘I am just telling you what is. Now you pass out that food, you will go to jail.’”
Another charitable group, Human Beans Together, told WRAL it was also forced out of the park. When it relocated to a nearby parking lot to continue, police also stepped in before the owner arrived and allowed them to remain on the premises while they negotiate a long-term solution.
Missouri state Rep. Jeremy LaFaver (D) was arrested Sunday on suspicion of possessing up to 35 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol’s arrest report cited by PoliticsMo, LaFaver was pulled over for failing to respond to an earlier charge that he had operated his vehicle with expired license tags. On top of the drug charges, the arresting officer also charged him with failure to appear in court for traffic offenses.
In a statement, LaFaver, a first-term lawmaker and chairman of the Missouri House Democratic Victory Committee, apologized for the incident.
“I made a serious mistake, I apologize for it, and I am prepared to face the consequences of my behavior. I want to stress that I was not operating under the influence,” he said. “I deeply regret the embarrassment I have caused my family and the people of the 25th District by this incident. I want to assure my constituents that I have received no special considerations, nor do I expect to be treated any differently than any other citizen in my situation
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell on Sunday predicted that Republican attempts to pass voter ID laws would “backfire” by energizing minorities to vote them out of office.
Powell took aim at efforts on the state legislature level to require that people show photo identification to vote.
“These kinds of procedures that are being put in place to slow the process down and make it likely that fewer Hispanics and African Americans might vote I think are going to backfire, because these people are going to come out and do what they have to to vote, and I encourage that,” Powell said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
Following the Supreme Court ruling in June that struck down a key part of the Voting Rights Act, Republicans in states like Texas and North Carolina are advancing legislation that would require voters to show photo ID at the polls.
“They claim that there’s widespread abuse and voter fraud, but nothing substantiates that,” Powell said. “There isn’t widespread abuse.”
A Republican who has been increasingly critical of his party in recent years, Powell endorsed President Obama in both 2008 and 2012.
Everyone was talking about the NSYN reunion at yesterday’s VMAs in New York. Seems the anticipation for some folks was palpable, as my phone rang constantly with OMG texts and I can’t wait Facebook messages.
I personally did not watch the VMAs. I couldn’t find a reason to, so needless to say, I missed the big reunion. But based on the buzz in the morning’s news, it seems NSYNC was just a minor storyline and I’m left wondering if they even performed.
From what I’m seeing, the real story of the VMAs was the Miley Cyrus performance. And based on the expression on the faces of Will Smith and his family, I’ll say Miley’s performance was something to see… or not.
We can be very disagreeable at times. Co-workers, friends, family and neighbors,we have all found ourselves at some point being disagreeable with one another. Heaven
knows anyone who has ever been married knows that. “Where ya going? Don’t go THERE, go HERE”. “Why are you driving THAT direction? Go THIS way”. “Why ya say TOMATO?, say
‘TO-MAH-TO.'” “My way or the highway.”
We’re disagreeable. Over time we hope that we can come to a consensus and find a happy medium or at least we hope that we can agree to disagree and keep on striding
forward. Or we simply sleep on the couch and say to hell with it.
As to ‘why’ are we so disagreeable… Since I know that I certainly can be disagreeable and since everything starts with self, I agreed with myself to give it some thought. As a man I am a result of my thoughts, my actions, my environment, decisions I’ve made,
the agreements that I’ve made with myself and the effects of those agreements. As a society we are as well, a product of our agreements. This morning somebody somewhere
decided that his pants should sag down below his buttocks and that this makes a good fashion statement and another one agreed and did the same.
Unfortunately, a person need not know from where a concept or idea originated to agree with it. For most of us all we need is to see it or hear it for us to agree with it and do it.
Where a concept or action comes from has influence on us who agree and follow that concept. So the root of an idea should be considered before we would agree. The root
idea of the above mentioned “fashion statement” of sagging pants originated in the prison culture where belts are confiscated upon arrival. We can clearly see by the condition of much our society that our collective belts of rational, clear thinking and individual ideas have been confiscated and we have agreed to let our mental and
moral pants sag all the way down under our asses.
The nasty origin from which the ideas we’ve agreed with is starting to show. Its time to make a new agreement with ourselves. What would happen if we agree to relearn
what love is and agree to love, and then agree to love even bigger on a broader scale and in deeper ways? What would happen if through our example another would agree and do the same? Over time the creative force of our collective mind can evolve a ‘new truth’ and a new reality. People who have heard of the 20th century artist Pablo Picasso
usually agree that his works of art are great. Maybe so. But when we study the pathology of how we come to such a consensus or agreement we’d find that somebody had an
opinion, someone else agreed, folklore grew around the artist and his work and as a result its generally excepted without question that such a subjective thing as Mr
Picasso’s art qualify as great, and they may very well be. But the question is from where does your agreement come? Those who don’t join in the chorus are dismissed as ‘uncultured’. What have we agreed to do with those who don’t follow the herd? Its time for a new agreement.
We have agreed as a society that small paper notes with numbers on them actually have value, now we literally spend our blood sweat and tears to attain these notes , we fight and kill each other over this. These notes stand as a daily reminder of the power of our collective minds when we agree. If you have
more of these notes the perception that others have of you changes whether you are of high moral standings or not. What if we made a new agreement about what is valuable? What if we valued a service and in turn received a service? A lesson for lesson? How would that affect our society? If I saw the beauty and benefit in something that comes
from your creative mind and soulful product how would that improve on what we value and how we value each other? How long would blood for oil wars last if a nation strive to develop its potential to have something to trade with oil rich nations? And oil rich nations who are poor in other areas did the same? Lets agree, its time for a new agreement. Those who are formally educated or religious, you are the leaders in a society where most aren’t conscious of their own ‘leader within’. What is it that you have agreed with? If its roots are pure you are at peace. If serenity and morality escapes you check the root of that with which you’ve agreed, because you are the excepted ‘gatekeepers’ and others will agree with you.
Somebody’s theory through constant repetition is accepted and eventually we agree that its truth. From this agreement we fashion reality and become emotionally attached to an idea that we have no idea from whence it came. As a result somewhere a black child is being shaped and fashioned in the image of a thought that he/she is worthless and will grow up to make it so. Somewhere a soldier who simply wanted to pay for school is now a murderer of his fellow man because of an agreement that he is facing an enemy. Somewhere a nurse is comforting a patient who once felt hopeless and somewhere a teacher is honing his/her craft because they have agreed that there is healing in their work.
The son of man says, let us agree… its time for a new agreement.
To those that have an ear let him/her hear.
Prepare pasta according to package directions, undercooking by 1 minute. Drain pasta and return to pot. Add tomatoes, pesto, mozzarella and olive oil. Season with salt and pepper.
Mix well, cover and set aside off heat until cheese has started to melt, about 2 minutes. Stir in basil and Parmesan. Serve immediately.
