Better watch what you say on Fox News. Zerlina Maxwell is now getting it first hand as the vile and hate from the Fox faithful comes her way.
What was Zerlina’s mistake? She went on Fox’s Hannity show and spoke the truth. She had the nerve to say that arming women with a gun to prevent rape or blaming women who are rape victims is not the way to begin solving the problem.
Zerlina, who is also a rape survivor, expressed that changing the focus to the men committing these acts, should be an important part of the discussion. On the Fox show, Zerlina said this;
The entire conversation is wrong. I don’t want anybody to be telling women anything. I don’t want men to be telling me what to wear how to act, not to drink, and I don’t honestly want you to be telling me that I needed a gun in order to prevent my rape.
Well of course, that was enough to cause some viewers to send Zerlina these tweets:
On Monday, Zerlina went on MSNBC’s The Ed Show and vowed to continue fighting to bring the perpetrators of these crimes to the limelight. “I’m certainly taking steps to protect my emotional health, but I will not be quiet because I refuse to be bullied into silence.”
Kim Kardashian went to the extreme to stay beautiful and young. In the latest episode of “Kourtney and Kim Take Miami”, the pregnant girlfriend of Kanye West visited a clinic specializing in the so-called “vampire” facial to try out the latest beauty technique.
The skincare treatment involved drawing blood from her arm. The plasma was then extracted from the blood and was injected back into her face using nine tiny little acupuncture-style needles. “It stings a little,” the doctor warned her before starting the procedure.
Though she got some numbing cream slapped on her face to help ease the pain, Kim still cried in agony during the painful process. “Owww,” she wailed. “Oh my God. I will never get a facelift if it feels like that.” Her BFF Jonathan Cheban, who was in the room, couldn’t bear to watch it.

A drive-by shooting early Monday on a D.C. street corner that has been repeatedly touched by violence left 13 people wounded, one of them seriously, police said. The shooting took place on North Capitol Street at New York Avenue in front of Tyler House, a crime-plagued subsidized apartment complex that police said is one reason the neighborhood has struggled with gun violence even as redevelopment in nearby “NoMa,” or north of Massachusetts Avenue, has redefined the area.
Those wounded in the shooting — the youngest of whom was 17 — were struck mostly in the arms and legs, D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said. Assistant Police Chief Peter Newsham said the seriously injured victim was hit in the back. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
Detectives are seeking information about two cars seen driving past Tyler House, an eight-story residence, at the time of the 2:10 a.m. shootings. Investigators were scrambling to interview witnesses and the wounded, who were scattered at three city hospitals. Police posted a video that they said captured a portion of the shootings and showed pedestrians falling into a small heap on the sidewalk.
It’s his own fault. Testifying during a Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, Attorney General Eric Holder made the thoughtless confession that Big Banks may very well be just too darn big to try to prosecute due to the effect it may have on the economy:
“I am concerned that the size of some of these institutions becomes so large that it does become difficult for us to prosecute them when we are hit with indications that if you do prosecute, if you do bring a criminal charge, it will have a negative impact on the national economy, perhaps even the world economy,” hesaid
Shortly after Holder’s “too big to jail” submission, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) got right on it, saying that these banks should have never gotten so large as to have a detrimental effect on our economy if they should fail. She promptly urged lawmakers to take steps to bring these banks down!
The momentum has garnered steam and an online petition signed by 97,000 American citizens is asking for the Obama Administration to take “immediate steps to break up the big banks and prosecute the criminals who used them to destroy our economy.”
The petition, afloat since Monday, is sponsored by Signon.org.
Holder and his team have already been accused of having “no balls” when it came to holding Wall Street banks accountable for their actions during the collapse of the economy. To date, no financial executives have gone to jail for their role in the crisis. Its time to stop denying their wrongdoing and prosecute these corporations under due process of law, just like any other “person” suspected of committing a crime. ♦
Famous for her many television roles including guest starring on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “Rhoda,” Valerie Harper shared the shocking news that she has terminal brain cancer and that her doctors only expect her to live a few more months.
Harper appeared on NBC today to share more of her story and her amazing take on life.
“It applies to some but not all food establishments in the city. It excludes other beverages that have significantly higher concentrations of sugar sweeteners and/or calories.”
And with that, New York Supreme Court Justice Milton A. Tingling Jr. invalidated one of Mayor Bloomberg’s main initiative. The Judge called the legislation “arbitrary and capricious” because the nature of the bill restricted the sale of certain sugary drinks, while allowing the sale of others. The New York Times reports:
In his opinion, Justice Tingling specifically cited a perceived inequity in the soda rules, which applies to only certain sugared drinks — beverages with a high milk content, for instance, would be exempt — and would apply only to some food establishments, like restaurants, but not others, like convenience stores.
The judge also wrote that the fact that consumers can receive refills of sodas, as long as the cup size is not larger than 16 ounces, would “defeat and/or serve to gut the purpose the rule.” The judge also appeared to be skeptical of the purview of the city’s Board of Health, which the Bloomberg administration had maintained has broad powers to seek to better the public’s health. That interpretation, the judge wrote, “would leave its authority to define, create, mandate and enforce limited only by its own imagination,” and “create an administrative Leviathan.”
After the judge imposed a stop to the ban, the Bloomberg administration quickly said it would challenge the decision.
“We plan to appeal the decision as soon as possible, and we are confident the Board of Health’s decision will ultimately be upheld,” Michael A. Cardozo, the Bloomberg administration’s chief counsel, said in a statement. “We believe the Board of Health has the legal authority — and responsibility — to tackle” the causes of obesity.
Pervy Assemblyman Vito Lopez found a 14-year-old intern so sexy that he fantasized aloud about living in a state where it was legal to sleep with underage girls, a source told the Daily News.
After ogling the girl, the 71-year-old Brooklyn Democrat relayed his twisted lament over New York’s statutory rape laws to least one person from his district office, the source said.
The creepy comment comes to light days after the Daily News revealed that the mother of a Lopez staffer called the police after he told the staffer she should dress sexier — like the teenage intern.
“It just gets more and more horrifying with this guy,” said one insider. “God only knows what’s inside that (state ethics commission) report” on Lopez.
Neither Lopez nor his lawyer returned messages seeking comments. A spokesman for the state ethics commission declined to comment.
The 14-year-old girl is the daughter of Brooklyn Judge Pamela Fisher, whom Lopez helped get elected.
In New York, it’s second-degree rape punishable by up to seven years in prison for anyone 18 or older to have sex with someone under 15 — even if it’s consensual. Anyone at least 21 who has sex with someone under the age of 17 is guilty of third-degree rape, punishable by up to four years in prison.
In 2012, Twitter was buzzing with the hashtag #WarAgainstWomen. It was a reference to all the Republican talk about rape is good, contraception is bad, encourage violence against women by voting AGAINST the Violence Against Women Act… multiple times. Their obvious war against women was a plus for the Obama administration, as women flocked to the President and supported his re-election in droves.
On this weeks Meet The Press, Steve Schmidt, a Republican Strategist attempted to explain the problem with the Republican party and women. Schmidt explains, “It’s one of the problems we have structurally in the Republican Party… Any company, any organization in today’s day and age that doesn’t give equal opportunity to women, that doesn’t advance women to the table, is going to be an organization that has difficulty competing.”

Have you ever wondered who elects the Oscar winners? The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has about 6000 members. 94% of them are white. 77% of them are male. 86% of them are over 50. So don’t think of it as Best Picture. Think of it as What an Old White Man thinks is Best Picture. An Old White Man’s Idea of Best Actor. An Old White Man’s Idea of Best Cinematographer. And so on.
Don’t get me wrong. A lot of old white men are wonderful people. It’s just that they’re the minority now. They’re certainly the minority as far as gender is concerned. And soon they will be the minority as far as race is concerned.
So why are they still running things (well the government and the Fortune 500 anyway)? Silly, because people who have power don’t give it up voluntarily. Why does it matter? Because the movies have such a powerful impact on our culture. And if only one group gets to decide what is the best , where does that leave the rest of us?
It’s no accident that most of the nominees and winners are white men. Members of a tribe like their own tribe the best. They help them first. It’s human nature. Human nature it may be, but healthy for the culture it is not. Ang Lee aside, where were the nonmale, nonwhite nominees that weren’t either best actress or best supporting actress nominees? A tiny percentage? Who does that benefit?
And whose idea was it to have Seth McFarlane host? His shows, Family Guy, American Dad and his movie Ted are insanely popular among you guessed it, white men. Young white men. Time to attract some new blood to the tribe. So we get hilarious jokes about how Jennifer Anniston was a stripper (she wasn’t) about how actresses throw up to lose weight, a CIA agent was just a nag, and 9 year old will be dating George Clooney soon. And a delightful song that reduced women at the top of their profession to a crudely referenced body part. Come to the Oscars and be humiliated.
Are they really this tone deaf? Well– there he was so, yes, they are. Lately I have been watching the Oscars just for the pretty dresses. Some of the most beautiful women in the world with a team of experts working on them and the result is they look absolutely stunning. Hey do you think it’s a coincidence that the Best Actress award usually goes to someone who’s young and beautiful? ‘Cause that’s what old men like. Just wondering.
It’s 2013. The days when old white men decide for all of us what has value and what does not are fading. At least I hope so. I can’t think of a good reason to watch the Oscars now.
I can catch the dresses the next day on dozens of websites.
