"In the most important industry we have to promote learning, culture, and democracy we race to the bottom to find out who can spend the least and cut the most, then lament that we don’t get the best people to teach or the highest test scores in the world. "...which gets me to thinking Robert -- that somebody out there does not wish to see our children succeed. So who in America could possibly benefit from an Idiot Nation? What would be the cause for ANY American to want this? Is this strictly politics or something deeper?

There is so much truth in this article. What's very sad is that many schools receive money based on how well their students score on standardized tests. This means schools that are based in low socio-economic areas continue to struggle academically and never receive the financial assistance that is desperately needed to keep up with other schools that are currently excelling. I cannot tell you how many times I was faced in the classroom as a teacher without enough textbooks for students or just no textbooks at all. And while I understand the purpose behind the No Child Left Behind Act, it only created a panic and fear in teachers and school administrations, while also placing a bigger emphasis on test scores and not on the needs of the individual student.
