Last week when House Democrats voted on extending the Bush Tax cuts to middle class families making up to $250,000.00 a year, one of the supporters to that bill, Representative Keith Ellison, a Democratic congressman from Minnesota, explained the GOP’s block-party as trying to loose 40 lbs, while eating chocolate layered cake everyday.

The congressman was referring to two things;

  1. a middle class tax cut bill that was blocked by the Republican party because it contained no tax cut extension for the wealthiest  Americans, and
  2. the Republicans bogus claim that they want to reduce the deficit.

Mr. Ellison tweeted on Sunday;

“Demanding $700B tax cut for Rich while demanding deficit reduction = eating chocolate layer cake everyday while losing 40 pounds. Dumb!,”

A great analogy. Not only is the scenario dumb, it’s also impossible. You can’t have both ways – either reduce the deficit by allowing the taxes to go back to what they once were under President Clinton, thus, saving $700 billion, or gouge on chocolate cake everyday thinking you’re loosing weight.

One way leads to a better economic health for our nation while the other keeps the bakery operating. And yes, gouging on chocolate cake every day keeps some employed, but like tax cuts for the wealthy, the majority of Americans will still not see the benefit of your chocolate layered cake obsession.
