Kentucky Seniors are totally confused. The Republican Teaparty candidate for Congress is having a fight. In this corner, we have Rand Paul – the GOP candidate who have called for a $2000.00 deductible for seniors medical coverage as a way to curtail government spending, and in this corner, we present his challenger, Rand Paul, who have suggested that idea as ludicrous.
Which Rand Paul will Kentucky Seniors accept?
Rand Paul #1 was heard in a video recording expressing his desire and approval for the increased payment in deductible for Medicare recipients. The video was taken back in June 2009, and shows Paul making the now infamous statement.
“The real answer to Medicare would be a $2000.00 deductible. But try selling that in an election.”
Paul #1 went on and made the same claim multiple times in 2009, repeating it at his town hall meeting in September 24th, and in Louisville KY two days before on September 22nd. But his claim that an increased deductible would be better for seniors goes back at least 10 years, when he appeared on “Kentucky Tonight” on 07/24/00 and said;
“So you don’t want low deductibles, you want high deductibles. You want the consumer to pay cash for those items.”
Paul’s Democratic opponent for Congress - Jack Conway, introduced or maybe reminded Kentucky’s seniors of Paul’s statements over the years, and with the introduction of Conway’s video came the introduction of Rand Paul #2. This new Rand Paul is evidently completely against raising the deductible. Paul #2 even suggests that Paul #1 never said anything remotely close to raising senior’s deductible to $2000.00
In a new video authorized by Paul #2, the voice is heard saying, ”Rand Paul doesn’t support higher Medicare deductibles for seniors.” The ad then goes on to quote the regular GOP talking points, but the two Pauls disagreement was already pointed out.
Now the line is drawn in the sand. Which Rand Paul will Kentucky vote for, Rand #1 and his $2000.00 deductible for seniors, or Rand #2 who totally disagrees with Paul#1′s deductible conclusion.
Well the good thing is that Kentuckians have a third choice, a smarter choice in Jack Conway.
Rand Paul #1.
