After denying all knowledge that her home care attendant was in this country illegally, Meg Whitman, Republican candidate for California governor’s race backtracked today, and admits that yes, she made a booboo. She now suggests that it is possible that her husband knew all along that the worker, Nicky Diaz was not legit.
The story unfolded when Nicky, feeling that she was wrongfully terminated by Whitman, brought the issue public. She tearfully explaining a telephone call in which Meg Whitman told her, that after talking to her lawyer, there was nothing they could do for her. Nicky Diaz was asked by Meg, not to tell anyone that she ever worked for the Whitmans, and was also told that any allegations she might bring in the future will be fought.
And oh how she fought! For two days, Meg Whitman denied the accusations by her former employee, that she knew of her illegal status. And Meg countered that she and her husband had no clue. They were innocent bystanders and were shocked, just shocked that Nicky Diaz will make such accusation. And when Nicky mentioned being in possession of a letter from Social Security to prove her case, the Whitmans denied its existence too.
But the letter surfaced, almost immediately after Meg’s press conference in which she denied the letter’s existence. It was sent in 2003 from the Social Security Administration, advising the Whitmans of a potential problem with Nicky’s numbers, the letter also known as a no match letter.
The Whitmans denied ever seeing this letter and suggested that Nicky intercepted the mailing. When asked at the news conference whether she believes Nicky purposely took the letter, Meg replied;
“It’s very possible. She might have been on the lookout for that letter. It would pain me to believe that that’s what she might have done but I have no other explanation.”
But something else was strange about this answer. On the bottom of the letter was a note, written to Nicky asking her to “take care of this.” The note, it was soon discovered, was written by Meg’s husband, Dr. Griffith Harsh.
Oh the calamity!
Meg Whitman has called for tougher sanctions against employers who hire illegal workers, so by her own standards, Meg should get in the car, and drive herself to the nearest precinct, walk to the cell and pull the door shut.
We’re waiting Meg, choose a car from your fleet and get da steppin!
