Unbelievable, yea… I know. But they’re out there. Muslim Americans who identifies themselves as Republicans are starting to come forward and they’re voicing their displeasure with their party’s decision to look for temporary political gains by attacking their first Amendment rights to freedom of Religion.
Asked about his feelings regarding the GOP, conservative Muslim American, Suhal Kahn, a former Bush Administration official calls it “a sad time.” He went on to say;
“People think they could make some short-term partisan gains by coming out against Muslims and Muslim Americans when it’s really in the long term, not good for our country and is really attacking all of us.”
Mr. Suhal Kahn appeared on The Alyona Show and provided his take on the issue that has captured American’s attention over the past few weeks – the proposed mosque/community center in the vicinity of The World Trade Center in New York.
The conservative Muslim goes on to comparing the GOP’s attacks as “McCarthyism” which defined as the political action of making accusations of disloyalty, subversion, or treason without proper regard for evidence. Speaking about his experience in Europe with members of the Jewish community when referencing the mosque debate, Mr. Suhal said;
“One of the things they (Jews) were saying about these attacks on the Ground Zero Mosque… was something reminiscent for Jewish Americans of the McCarthy era, and even of Nazi Germany where you selectively singled out one particular group of minority and try to dehumanize them and use them for political advantage. So not only would you lose the Muslim American vote, but you’ll lose other minorities who say, ‘hey, I could be next.’”
Good to see someone who calls himself a conservative Muslim American stand up and point out the game these established Republicans are playing. For short term political gain, the wisdom of these Republicans suggest that alienating Blacks, Jews, Gays, Latinos, Immigrants, Women and now Muslims is somehow the way to unite this country and move forward as one people.
It is evident that moving the country forward as one is not the ultimate goal of this Republican Party. The concept of a “United” States of America goes against all that the GOP stands for. They prefer fear and division.
Mr. Suhal Kahn said it right. Unfortunately, he may be the last one left in this party who will.
