Saturday Night Live struck gold when they brought the Golden Girl, Betty White on the show for their mother’s day show. Betty White arrived and it was business as usual as she showed the younger cast how it’s really done.
At the age of 88, White has had a long and documented career in both the radio and film industry, but she gained notoriety and an Emmy Award when she starred as one of four divorced or widowed women on The Golden Girls. The show ran successfully for seven years from 1985 to 1992, and still bring much laughs to her many fans.
But it was a Facebook campaign that got Betty White on Saturday Night Live. With over a half million friends on the social network page asking for Betty White to host the NBC show, SNL’s producers was left with little choice as to Mrs. White’s involvement in the show. It was just a matter of when and bringing her on for mother’s day was a great decision.
As for Facebook, Betty White issued her thanks on the show, saying;
“I really have to thank Facebook… I didn’t know what Facebook was, and now that I do know what it is, I have to say, it sounds like a huge waste of time. I would never say the people on it are losers, but that’s only because I’m polite. People say ‘But Betty, Facebook is a great way to connect with old friends.’ Well at my age, if I wanna connect with old friends, I need a Ouija Board. Needless to say, we didn’t have Facebook when I was growing up. We had phonebook, but you wouldn’t waste an afternoon with it.”
One of the legends of television, Betty White makes it look easy in her Saturday Night Live mother’s day show. For that, we say thanks Mrs. White, you’ve been and continues to be a true golden girl.
